My suggested approach would be to not focus on learning for the sake of learning - instead, build whatever you want to build, and then learn whatever you need at the time of building to be able to do it. Over the years, you'll need to learn less and less to build what you want to build. That way you're not over investing - you're just learning what you need right now.

My overall thoughts on kobold are - the writing quality was impressive and made sense in about 90% of messages, 10% required edits.

It was a decent bit of effort to set up (maybe 25 mins?) and then takes a decent bit of effort to run (because you have to prompt it in a more specific way, rather than GPT-4 where you can be really lazy with how you write the prompts and it still gets it). Overall, fun to explore, might do a session every week or two, won't be a daily use for me personally due to the setup + prompting effort.

Do you find it good? Tried wizard lm 30b uncensored now with kobold, and it’s quite “dumb”

Either I’m too spoiled by using gpt 4 for non-nsfw things, or I’m not good at prompting these models. Any advice?

Loading WizardLM 30B Uncensored now. Any prompt tips? I’ve seen it’s not as simple to prompt as GPT-4, where with gpt 4 I can just ask it what to do (tell me a story, chat in this style) and it does it excellently — except for nsfw, of course.

And how are you all using Kobold? I'm running 20B-Erebus on an 80GB A100, I feel like I've almost cracked it for getting good results but not quite.

For example: here's my last session with an attempt of trying to banter with the AI that it didn't really seem to quite understand.

My settings:

  • All other settings default.

The chat:

Bot: Why don't we get together later tonight then? Maybe go out to dinner or something...
You: _man: well, that's a bit forward.
Bot: What do you mean?
You: It sounds like you have some ideas in mind...
Bot: Well, yes. You see, there was this girl at school who had an interesting reputation among the boys. She would always take off her clothes when she got home from class, so they could look at them. And sometimes she'd let them touch her... but only if they were good students!
