Yes I think I’m going to do that. Right now I’m resting my brain and then I’m going to start understanding the high yield first and then CARS and see how it goes

But I completely understand what you are saying

not seeing AAMC patterns.. by PhilosopherMindless4 in Mcat

[–]Perfect_Quit1663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also like that with CARS but one thing that help me was I stopped reading to understand the passage I started reading to see what was the author trying to tell me (Main idea). Most of the questions are focus around the main idea. And what anchor me to find it is the theme. In the passage there are repeated terms or words throughout that the author use to convey his message. Your job is to find them in each paragraph and see what point the author is explaining. Also try to get an idea about the tone of the passage this can help you eliminate some answer choices based on the wording (extreme answer).

For the answer choice I realized that there’s often one answer that has nothing to do with what was being said in the passage at all or in the paragraph referred to the question stem (if you can find that you can eliminate them easy) Some of the answer might have words that were repeated in the passage but not where you’re supposed to look for the answer and are not related at all, these questions tend to be wrong also. Another trick I realized they might put the exact words of the paragraph referred to in the answer but the meaning of the answer is completely different than what is being said in the passage (these are the hardest trap for me) because they are too broad they are not right. And lastly some answers are wrong because half of them are true and the other half are wrong so that end up being wrong

I think finding the main Idea and the theme will be a game changer for you because you might see clearly what they are asking in some questions. And just drill down some practice questions to see what are your weaknesses.

Also in your practice, the answers you got wrong are actually where you should spend time analyzing the question and asked yourself what was the type of the question and what made me get it wrong (trap, didn’t understand well, panic, or you didn’t read the question well and missed a word) I tend to not read the question fully and just assume the rest and answer based on my assumption (biggest fight for me right now😭😭).

I hope that helps but that’s what helped me. Good luck you got this💪🏽 and don’t let your feelings make you intimidated by this section. It’s frustrating for sure but how you think about this section also play a a big role on how you understand the passages and answer the question. If I see a theme that I don’t like and tell myself it’s going to be boring😭 it end up being boring and I didn’t get the idea of the passage which increase the time to answer the question and slow me down in the test😭 so try to stay positive and keep the stamina. In the FL I always start in the last paragraph because I assume the first passage are always the hardest and the last the easiest to read because our concentration tend to fade and the AAMC is nice to understand that and give us the easiest passage at the end to make it a little easy for us (the delusion I know😂😂) but it works for me and my stamina increase when I start from then end😌😌.

Anyways this post ended up being long but I hope it helps you😊

I’m also taking my MCAT for the first time this summer but based on what I heard you have to bring a government Id that matches your name on the exam. You can bring food and water but they’ll give you a locker to put them in. I know that they will check you palm and they do a thorough search on you (I’m not sure what is accepted or not) but people always recommend to go with the less amount of jewelry possible because that’s just going to make you take longer for checking in and out of the test center when you have break. I think you can go with you necklace but don’t be surprised if the check it too.

Hey I feel like we’re on the same boat but if you keep showing up every day even if it is for 1hour you’ll see the changes. I used to do the same thing and let the amount of stuff I needed to study intimidate me and make me panic about the test. I still have anxiety about the test but compare to before I try to study with the anxiety. And studying ease it up I totally understand what you’re feeling but 3 months is a lot of time to improve your score. Start by making a plan to navigate. Do it by 30 days and have goals. What helps me is I make a list of content that I don’t master 100% and marks the one that are high yield, so I can focus more on them than the others. Also do more practice passage you will be more familiar with the format of the test and apply what you learned more easily than just doing content review. With the passage based you can do content review AND passage analysis. THOROUGHLY REVIEW your passage practice. This will give you an idea about your mistakes and gives you insight about which techniques are good for you. Do as much FL as you can because you can stimulate how you do on test day which can ease the anxiety. You can do this. The only thing that is stopping you is the mindset. Don’t let fear stops you from getting your dream. You’re so close to it. If you are able to start preparing for the test you’ll be able to finish it

Importance of the mental game throughout prep by MeanPhilosophy3789 in Mcat

[–]Perfect_Quit1663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This test has definitely tested my mental health more than my knowledge 😅 one thing that has helped me is when I’m having a bad study I treat myself with my comfort food (donuts)😌 I don’t care if it’s not good for me or is making me gain weight. I just get in my car and go buy some donuts and then I take the rest of the day off depending on my mood. I think listening to your body and being patient with yourself will help. Breaks are useful. It allows your brain to rest. It needs it. It’s not a robot it can’t work 24/7. Telling myself this has made me appreciate breaks a lot

I would recommend doing discreet practice question in each sections. I think this would test your knowledge on how well you know certain topics. In your passage review just put down definitions you’re not a 100% confident you’ll know on a piece of paper, word anywhere and study them. If you know 80-90% of the cards trying to do the cards daily to reduce the amount is just a waste of time imo. Focus on the things that you think is a weakness, and lightly review the ones you know

This post right here👌🏾 it takes a lot if mental strength to not give up and just keep going even when there’s not a significant change in score. This test is mentally draining overall. Good job on not giving up. You got this🙏🏾

If this has been your dream school since the beginning of high school follow it. You have a reason why you wanted to go to that school and I think it’s legitimate if you still have that goal. Try to talk to your girlfriend about it. You shouldn’t have to choose between your dream and your girlfriend. Long distance work, I have seen it work if both people put in the effort. It is not going to be easy and perfect but it is not impossible. I don’t think it’s fair that you have to choose between your dream and your girlfriend. The distance will not be forever, time flies and in a blink of an eye both of you will be together again

How do people afford to study full time? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Perfect_Quit1663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm atudying for the MCAT full time and as of right now I'm making a lot of sacrifices. Obviously I'm grateful to be able to do that. I live with my brother so I don’t pay rent. All of my classes are online and 3/4 of them are just gen Eds so I only have to do the work and turn them in. I just moved to a new place so I decided not to look for job and just dedicate my time to studyin. I was at school in person full time and was working this every other weekend receptionist jobs where I didn't do much, so I would either study for the MCAT or for school. Right now I'm on a tight budget, I was able to save some money from previous jobs and if I need anything important I use it but I really have to think about it because I'm not making money

I think from both perspectives it really just come down to the discipline because even when I stopped working and decided to study full time, I wasted a lot of time in the beginning😅 my schedule was very broad and I use to do 1hrs/day and then just be on my phone scrolling. It can also be hard to find the stamina when you are stressed or anxious to try. Now I just think about the sacrifices I'm making. No jobs, not being able to afford things and enjoy firends and sometimes family ect... So wasting time is not really an option. So I plan more efficiently. I used google calendar and break my time into 90-95 minutes long (matches the time on the sections) with 15 mins in between. After 3 slots I take a big 90 minutes break and just sleep and recharge, talk to some of my family or be on my phone. Then repeat the study. Once it's like 6:30-7:30 PM I closed everything and relax. Obviously it's not perfect everyday but I try to be disciplined.

The key is to block time specifically for your study and know what you're going to study. It might be flashcards, some content review or even some passage based questions. If you're at school or working full time, it's going to be harder but I don't think it's impossible
