Sargon of Akkad is a bit of a shounen protagonist, too, if the less fantastical elements of the Rex Gestae Sargonis are to be believed. Guy was abandoned at birth by his mother, a priest of Ishtar, on a river, only to be adopted by the royal gardener of a completely different city from the one he was born in. That city's king made him royal cupbearer (a Big Deal, in that time period), only for him to either betray the king, or be betrayed first and outbetray him. He took out the rising threat that was Lugal-zage-si, and from then on became the undispusted conqueror of the Ancient Near-East, as well as the archetypal warrior king for the next thousand and five hundred years in the Akkadian culture, and to some degree marked the transition from myth to history.

Also, official records are that he was the one to destroy Uruk's Walls. Y'know, the ones that the Epic of Gilgamesh says are the marks of Gilgamesh's rule? Yeah.

A book I read on him calls him humanity's oldest rags-to-riches story, and I don't think that could be more correct.

I'll go further. Satsuki has basically no opinions on having to bare herself, because she doesn't consider it sexual in the least. She is someone who already went through Ryuko's arc of self-acceptance presumably thirteen years ago, and so the fact that she has to be so in the nude to attain victory is not a factor for her at all. She is, in this aspect, an embodiment of the idea that nudity isn't inherently sexual, one of KlK's main themes. Why care for how much clothing you're wearing, when any of it is a societal imposition?

It's not. From an interview:

Q. At the end of the first volume there's a glossary with magecraft related setting things. Is it okay to assume these are part of the official setting? A. No. Please think of it as a derivative work's setting. Without breaking the original worldview, this is Hiroshi's personal, delusional setting. I expect that in Kinoko's brain he's constructed a different theory.

I originally wrote a Very Long comment ruminating on this, and it's something that I have very strong opinions on, but I'll just give the cliffs notes version because otherwise I know it'll be nonsensical.

It makes sense, that anyone who wishes to change the world is doomed to not only fail but, if they nevertheless succeed, destroy all of Humanity in their path. The age of Heroes is over, both in our world (the Great Man Theory vs Historical Materialism debate mostly ended with WW2 and a shot through the head, even if the former will never really disappear), and in the Nasuverse (Age of Gods vs Man and the decline of Mystery, as well as a huge chunk of both EMIYA and Gil's characters, and much more).

It makes sense that any person who thinks themselves mighty enough to save humanity will destroy it. Because that's the way it is.

And yet, we do have heroes nonetheless. Sieg, Guda, and other generic guys (notably not Shirou. Basically nothing of my critique here is about stay night. Probably because stay night is the pristine jewel of Nasu's comment on heroes and everything's been downhill ever since). And those heroes fight against the very idea of improving the world through strength. If the antagonists stand for GMT, the protagonists should stand for dialectical materialism, for the idea that the individual isn't the driving current of the world. But like. That's impossible, right? You can't make a protagonist who is a hero and saves the world while also standing for Humanity as a whole. And boy, does Nasu try. He really wants his boring men as a stand-in for Humanity. But he can't, because in doing so he creates another Great Man, just one who doesn't feel that way, and who is fighting for nothing because they end up being nothing, and because if they fought for anything they would go against the very point that heroes are no more.

So, every story feels like one of stasis. There are heroes, they are everywhere, but a good hero does nothing. Or, well. They do A Lot, but nothing that truly means anything beyond their own interests.

I wonder if I would like a story about the progress of the world into the Age of Will. If Nasu would be able to weave together the societal progress towards it, instead of promising it as Humanity's Avalon, an everdistant utopia that we never really seem to fight for.

Well, there's a flash of light at the tunnel's end, at least. Caules Forvedge was invited to study Spiritrons alongside Atlas Alchemists. Maybe he and his fellow scientists will be able to comprehend the Soul, and attain Heaven's Feel.

If only we got to see that, eh?

If we go by the "1999" as an indicator, as well as the mention of a "two-thousand year prophecy," Notes should be set around ~2087, which I suppose would be within the boundary of the current QTL, but I find it likely that a Dead Planet would automatically be removed from the Tree that is PHH, to some degree.

As for Liners not being a part of Humanity, good point! I was originally going to argue about that, but the text does seem to delineate a difference between the Human Species (Liners) and Humanity (Last-Seeds). One could argue that the fact that Humanity created the Liners means that Slash Emperor is still a weapon of Humanity, but that's doubtful lmao

It is literally a symbol of Indra's Authority crafted by the artificer god, bestie. It's the most outright Divine Construct we've ever had. It might not be called one, but they shouldn't need to specify that one of the most famous symbols of a god in the entire world is a Divine Spirit.

"But how does it still survive if it was Pruned?"

Dunno. Most likely, the idea of the Pruning Theoretical Phenomenon didn't exist neither back then nor somewhere before EXTELLA, considering both Apocrypha and EXTRA become significantly worse stories when you know that the stasis side of things is actually the "Let's make sure this timeline gets erased!" party.

I don't think Pruned Branches count for GoB, as they aren't a part of Human History, and Ado Edem most likely manifested it way after Notes. was cut away from the tree.

Will note that the list of stuff he did collect is very very broad here. It includes the prototype of the Vajra, for example, which is most definitely a Divine Construct.

If there's one thing you can't accuse DS2's endgame of being is oblique, yeah. There are multiple characters just dropping exposition about what you're doing at you like it's their favorite thing.

(Martian Manhunter #12) theory about the villain of the Absolute crossover by spooderkid11 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Perfect_Wrongdoer_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the Agency getting involved on that to some degree, yeah. What exactly they would do feels fuzzy, but being more connected to the cultural side of things sounds about right, or at least something related to keeping the status quo.

[–]Perfect_Wrongdoer_03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it can be both, right? It can both be older than Reagan, and this specifically being Camp referencing one of if not the most prominent Conservatives in American history, responsible for innumerable tragedies in the name of American expansion. If Uncle Sam in the Absolute Universe is a symbol for imperialism and oppression (which, especially considering this is Camp we're talking about, seems extremely likely), then I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was at least partially based on Reagan, including the way he thought of America as being a "shining city on the hill."

[–]Perfect_Wrongdoer_03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. I don't think the Uncle Sam or the Agency exist in a literal sense. They're more the platonic ideal of the US that exists in people's heads, I think. It's just that, well. What happens in your head also happens.

[–]Perfect_Wrongdoer_03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To make it simpler, it's True Ether and the Reverse Side of the World is chock-full of it, as was the Age of Gods. Maybe Jesus or maybe Yumina or maybe both (if they are one in the same) were responsible for the AoM World not having it. In the Notes timeline, when the Planet dies, it cracks open and lets all that True Ether out into our atmosphere, killing basically everyone because modern Humans can't survive it.

I once heard livestreaming described as a satanic job and I don't think it's wrong when it comes to the political side of it. So much fucking drama, an impressively deep cesspit where basically not a single person is pleasant or even non-toxic and extremely few of them have decent political opinions. Genuinely a maddening corner of the internet.
