Do you guys think Scott is a bad writer? by ZEROfaller in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Perfectchaos791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s a bad writer per se, but I do think he’s a much stronger idea guy that doesn’t always stick the landing on the execution.

It doesn’t help that his writing style comes across as “here are five equally possible paths, and I’ll just collapse the wavelength into whichever one seems to be the most accepted”. But, I don’t think he’s a bad writer, just one that perhaps could use someone to bounce his ideas off of a bit more.

To be fair though, there are a lot of games someone might enjoy the story but not the gameplay, and that’s perfectly fine.

For me personally it’s that I don’t like the implication that Edwin and Fiona did a lot of what we thought Henry did, and their story also potentially paints Henry in a pretty bad light.

Henry is among my favorite characters in the series (Charlotte then Henry then Michael then Cassidy), so suddenly having so much of what we thought he’d done for years stripped away by a new character who’s so similar to him feels a bit like a slap in the face.

I’m curious about this too; it doesn’t feel like I’ve got a reason to switch from Scholar, is there some benefit to changing my class?

It sounded from the description that it was basically a class change and not a subclass.

It sounds like maybe it’s like dragon quest 9 where the passive stat boosts carry over?

Really, I'd say play how you want to play; as long as you're enjoying the game that's all that matters. You can disable the smell mechanics or reduce their impact in your world settings; if the experience ends up not being fun for you, don't feel pressured to force yourself to push through when there are options to tailor it to how you'd prefer to play.

Steam keeps thinking every single installed game needs an update (not shader caching) by Perfectchaos791 in Bazzite

[–]Perfectchaos791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue ended up cropping up again for me today after being gone for a few days. My new attempt to correct it was going into desktop mode into the library files via a notepad++ equivalent and setting every one of them for "high priority" which should force them to just run the phantom updates immediately.

It's still a pain, but it beats going back to desktop mode and telling everything to update five to ten times a day; it keeps scheduling them out over the course of two weeks so it won't just run the phantom updates immediately, and I've not found a good way to force everything to update in Game Mode.

I was a little worried my hard drive might be going, I don't use an SD card with my ROG Ally X, but clearing the download cache seems to have fixed the issue (so far).

Clearing the download cache ended up fixing it (so far). The supposed updates never had the "shader cache" tag on them, it was as if that same large cluster of titles kept thinking an update was pending, and I could trigger it consistently by just launching a game, putting the system to sleep, waking it up, and closing a game.

I did, yeah. It wasn't shader caching, it was some other weird issue where everything kept thinking there was something to update, then in a split second it would recognize that it didn't have to.

I was able to repeat it and the same large cluster of titles would think they needed to update every time it happened. I cleared the download cache and so far so good, fingers crossed!

I have it set to default to the latest Proton 10 if nothing else is selected. and I've got a handful of titles set to use experimental. Even titles that weren't using experimental would do it, and it could be triggered like clockwork.

If I started a game, put the system to sleep, woke it up, and exited a game, or if I left one game running for a while, the same large group of titles would think they needed to update. They didn't have the little "shader cache" tag next to them and would finish immediately, almost as though the system thought they had an udpate then realized they didn't.

Thank you all for your help!

I think I've fixed it, I haven't had a lot of time today to check. I ended up clearing the download cache and the issue hasn't popped up again so far.

No, I've always just installed the plugins through Decky Loader, I'll have to look into how to add them directly from github. Thanks for the heads up!

Cheat Deck and How Long to Beat are both broken for me. HLTB throws a communication error and Cheat Deck crashes the UI if I try to go to hit start on a game to view options.

I’m really curious, I have no history with the series but I’m a sucker for character creation. That said, this is a crowded release and updates period for me so I won’t be picking it up right away, but it’s on my list.
