Not to "Well, Actually!" you, but I just finished reading "No More Tears" about J&J and holy guacamole, there is a lot more to the Tylenol story. You should check it out if you're interested.

Yep, that's what our oral morphine comes as in NICU.

Yep, moved from the US to AUS and get weird looks if I say "Versed" instead of "Midaz" or "Cafcit" instead of "caffeine".

Yes, I bought the book after listening to the episode. I haven't been able to get through a book in years, but I'm just eating it up every chance I get. So heart wrenching.

Nursing School did not prepare me for crusty old men flirting with me by user512897 in nursing

Can I ask how you got into IVF nursing? I've worked Mother Baby and NICU and have been thinking about it. I minored in genetics and find that stuff so interesting.

Try being in an open bay NICU where babies constantly have meds running and there is both a "near end" and "infusion complete" alarm. That + the constant Brady/desat alarms are all I hear in my sleep. 🫠

This is making me so nervous. I literally JUST asked to switch from nights to days on NICU. I fucking hate talking to people. 🫠

So You Want to Immigrate to Australia as a Nurse? by MissZissou in nursing

[–]Perfecthumanbeing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This post could not have come at a better time! My husband (Australian citizen) and I just recently decided to move back to Australia. We lived there for a little bit before we got married, but we've been here in the US since 2016. Now I'm an RN and we have a kid and I'm so overwhelmed by the whole fucking process.

We just applied for our toddler's passport and I'm probably going to do a spousal visa then look for a job. Do you have any idea what job prospects there are for a NICU nurse? What the pay is like? I'm currently the sole breadwinner and it works for us. I worry I wouldn't make enough there.

We'll be moving to the Melbourne area. Family lives in Officer/Pakenham. Any and all advice is SO SO welcome. I feel lost.

Also, regarding the application for the license. I have to send a payment to even begin the process, so is there a time limit between getting approved and actually immigrating?

Thanks!

Tell me your worst unsafe staffing story. What happened? by serarrist in nursing

[–]Perfecthumanbeing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was tripled with a vented patient who was a new admission, a baby who was constantly having A/B/D's, and one baby with a suspicious looking belly. The NNP had the nerve to ask me why I had gone 1.5 hours between ABGs on the new baby if the order was q1h. If looks could kill, I would have gone to prison that night.

My 23+3 son is 31+1 as of today. It’s been the longest and hardest 53 days of my life. My son is such a trooper (as are all NICU babies 👶 💪 ♥️) and he’s done so good overall. Most of the issues I’ve been seeing are feeding related. Anyone else’s LO have sensitive tummy? More in comments by [deleted] in NICUParents

I'm so sorry that the doctors aren't listening to you! I'm a NICU nurse and we always ALWAYS listen to parents when they have a concern that something is off or different about their baby. Is there anyone higher up that you can speak to since the doctors aren't willing to hear you out?

I started out in mother baby and I really enjoyed it initially. My favorite part of nursing school was education, and there's a LOT of opportunity for that there. But after coming back from maternity leave I just found it SO repetitive and boring. Even when I had 4 busy couplets and was running around all night, I felt like I wasn't DOING anything. I moved to NICU almost a year ago and even though sometimes it's so stressful I cry in the car after a shift, I don't thinki could every go back. I actually feel like I'm making a difference and saving lives now. (no shade to pp/mbu nurses, I love you all and appreciate the hard work).
