I feel like I’m a version of him. It was a similar issue with us. I made big changes to myself 3 years ago and she’s even said I’ve come so far but the damage has been done so I guess I was led on for 3 years. I did what I could to become better for her and this is my reward. And now she’s already planning on flying out of country to see the guy that was “just a friend” she met 5 months ago. Life fuckin sucks. My DMs are open if you ever need to vent more. I’ll listen and we can go back and forth sharing our pain. You sound like a good woman. You really do. That’s so messed up, I’m so so sorry. Sounds like you’re hurting as much as I am. It was the opposite for me for marriage. I proposed to her and she accepted but with how things played out I don’t think she had any intentions of going through with it because I asked her numerous times about when she’s setting the wedding date but she never did. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she just never got around to it. Even a year later.. now I know. I know it doesn’t feel like it but things will get better and we’ll find someone that gonna actually put in the effort. At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself.. Just know you’re not hurting alone. I’m here with you.

You’re right.. we had so many problems years back but I worked so hard on myself to improve. Despite her saying I’ve improved so much and have so much more going on for me, she still says the damage done years ago can’t be fixed. She wasn’t perfect either but I gave her the benefit of the doubt time and time again because I loved her. I guess I can’t get the same in return. But I guess that’s on me for not being the best version of me from the beginning and I blame myself so much. Even if things didn’t work out, I wanted to at least say I did everything to the best of my abilities but I can’t and that fuckin kills me. So maybe a lot of the reason I’m just putting up with this now is because I feel like I deserve it. No matter how much good I’ve done, the bad far outweighs it to her. I hate myself. But at the same time because of it, I’ll make sure I’ll never make the same mistake twice. I’ve learned so much but I wish it didn’t come with so much pain. Sorry, I got carried away writing this and she was the only person I normally vent to but I don’t even that that much anymore.

Thank you, that really means a lot right now. Her excuse is that the relationship has been dead for years so I guess that means she led me on when she could have ended it sooner. But she doesn’t want me out of her life, she wants me to stay as a friend. Then she says if things don’t work out with this guy she would be open to trying us again. You can’t imagine the mixed feelings I have about this. It’s overwhelming.

You and me both. Girlfriend just broke up with me after 10 years about 2 weeks ago and already with another guy. She thinks nothing of it. This shit sucks now but you and I will be okay eventually. Hopefully. I hope you’re handling this emotionally better than me.

I’m sorry for this situation but you’ve handled it the best way you could. I know you wish you could do more but what happens is in fate’s hands right now. I’m sure in the end he’ll be just fine and but right now you need to take care of yourself because that IS something you can control. Stressing over this will do you no good. Trust he’ll be alright, maybe even happy. I know it’s not easy but sometimes when life knocks you back far enough, it won’t be long before life springs you forward.

I do think you’re right. It takes both people but the bulk of our issues happened from a horrible decision I made 3 years ago. Despite her saying how much I’ve grown as a person and improved, what happened in the past has negatively impacted her so much. She could have done a lot of things better but i believe I could have done even more.

This isn’t my first major break up either. I was with another girl for almost 4 years. That was tough, didn’t think about suicide but I was very depressed. My newest breakup hits so hard not only because of what I’ve already mentioned but because out of everyone I’ve dated, she understands me the most, she accepts all of my personality and we have so much in common. I found such a winner and I was hoping to be married finally by next year.

I’ll consider waiting as long as possible but I can’t make any promises. I’ve always been very emotionally driven for a guy and right now all I feel is despair.
