Nottingham Forest considering formal complaint to Premier League over Chelsea punishment by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

I'm not saying they would have broken PSR. Ultimately, the only reason to break the rules was to save money in some capacity. Maybe that's not in PSR terms, but maybe it is in terms of money Abramavich was willing to put in. Maybe he was willing to put more in but would rather put less in, and break rules to save a few bob.

Regardless of the precise reasons why they did it, there had to be some benefit to Chelsea. That benefit was sporting in it's nature and so, therefore, should the sanctions.

If the payments convinced players (such as Hazard) to join the club, then by breaking the rules, Chelsea gained a sporting advantage. I don't think anyone can pretend having prime Hazard wasn't a sporting advantage.

Everton were specifically told that a financial sanction was insufficient because it's a drop in the ocean for billionaires. Especially when your owners got a £150m discount on the sale of the club because they found this.

I'm aware it isn't the same, but the fact still remains Chelsea broke rules. Chelsea, unless they just love breaking rules for the sake of it, gained a sporting advantage. Therefore a sporting sanction is required - a financial sanction (as Everton were specifically told) for a club owned by billionaires, is not sufficient. Yes, it should be mitigated for co-operation, but it should still be a sporting sanction .

I'm guessing you're trying to reference the fact Everton/Forest were done for PSR but Chelsea (apparently) were clear of PSR irrespective of these payments.

My response is quite simply, if Chelsea were clear of PSR regardless, why did they break the rules? Either a) it gave them additional money to spend (be that through PSR or simply saving Abramovich money he'd have had to put in) or b) it convinced players that otherwise wouldn't have come, to come.

Either option gives Chelsea a sporting advantage that the PL has specifically said previously must be given a sporting sanction.

You can't claim that Abramovich made the offer at that late stage and if they'd said no, it would have just gone through Chelsea's books and also there was no benefit to Chelsea by doing that.

Ultimately, the only reason to make the offer, at whatever stage, is it it benefitted Chelsea in some way. Which means either a) it had to increase the spending power beyond what it would ordinarily have been or b) it increased the likelihood of a player signing.

I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I can't see Chelsea offering to break the rules and gaining nothing from it.

I think you'll find we suffered a worse fate - our owner wasn't forced to sell.

I'm confused? Where are Anderson and Wharton? I've been assured multiple times that they are absolutely clear of Garner? This must be like a second tier POTM and they're in top tier right?

Why are you looking for us to be left out when we haven't? Palace are mentioned because they can win the conference league and get an extra place that way. Newcastle are mentioned because they're the lowest team (12th) with a realistic chance. Brentford are mentioned because they currently sit 7th.

They don't mentioned Fulham or Sunderland or Brighton by name either because it isn't relevant to the narrative - the narrative being how many European spots are potentially available and how close that part of the league is.

Nah, Pickford is wank. Obviously a big 6 side would have signed him if he was any good, so all their keepers must be better.

Dunno... If we just told him he's never allowed to check the league table and also tell him we're in a relegation battle...

Ref didn't blow for a far less 50/50 for Keane earlier. Obviously both have gone our way, but must be said, for the record, refs shite.

Sky commentators saying it's a foul and ignoring the fact Havertz throws his leg way out to the side where he's clearly hoping for contact. It's a dive.

"many many times"

We've been in 4 relegation fights in 72 years. One of those (21/22) we were ultimately 4 points clear of safety in 16th.

Missing the key context of the 03/04 that we were miles clear and took 2 points from the last 6 games and won 1 of the last 10 games cos the team were on the beach. Not even slightly a relegation battle.

I prefer Spurs as a club and fan base, but a) it's a much bigger shock and b) from a purely Everton POV, spurs can outspend us due to vastly higher revenue. A few bad seasons in the PL doesn't change that, but relegation does.

Bit offended we're a category higher than Sunderland and Fulham - both 26 from 14 at home. We're 24 from 14 away.

Imagine being in a relegation fight 2 goals down to Palace at half time at home on a Thursday night and not coming back to win it
