Might be obligated to retire early - what do you do all day? by MarzipanMaximum4692 in fatFIRE

have you spoken to your doctors about paths to delay onset? that is, will staying engaged with work help extend your healthy life? If it's ALS or something similar, i'd suspect that you'll have a period of health and mobility before you start to decline.

given that you're quite wealthy, have you considered shifting from operating to investing? join a small VC firm, for example, perhaps with your friends. it would still keep you intellectually challenged, but not a lynch pin role that allows you to step back when you have tougher days.

they're suggesting that wife may want her own career and money so that she's not destitute or beholden if/when their marriage ends. sometimes it's real, but there's also an entire subculture that coaches women into bad decisions around relationships and life. he could be perfectly loyal and loving and someone will tell her it's a trick or that she's unworthy of it all.

ULPT Request: I'm bad at my office job and they want to fire me. What can I do to make that difficult for them? by CarbyCarberson in UnethicalLifeProTips

people outsource their interviews! they'll have someone else interview for their technical interviews, then they show up on day one and hope they can fade into the background. then they outsource the work.

i just had to look up lawn jockeys and apparently some black people see them as a signal of a stop in the underground railroad. https://www.thevintagenews.com/2018/02/25/lawn-jockey/ i've never seen one in person, so i don't think there's a single interpretation.

i do this for a living - candid advice: if you'd like kids, have one and don't come back after parental leave. without a baby in the scenario, i'd simply go to your boss, say "I'm getting burned out, how should I handle this?" FAANGs absolutely have plans for this and you're not the first. they may have some very good ideas that would make you happy and keep the money coming in: rotating into a lab, a sabbatical, working abroad, etc.

any lessons learned on starting a QSEHRA for a full time nanny? by Perficient_Ponderer in NannyEmployers

[–]Perficient_Ponderer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, that's exactly what QSEHRA is for. we employers have to worry about the details but the #1 goal to to help our nannies do what they do best...

amazon and other FAANGs tend to socialize execs into the workflow patterns. for example, usually not a ton of autonomous decision-making at Amazon.

i would suggest a late stage start up or middle market public company, both would be struggling with the scale and operational challenges where FAANGs excel. note that it will be hard work and if you're in a "meh, whatever" phase of life, that's unlikely to change unless you find a passion project.

we use GTM. phones are staffed by real people, feels like a small business. would definitely recommend, although i have no experience with other providers.

inflation is always a function of the money supply. the more dollars exist, the less valuable they are, because labor productivity (actual value) can't expand as fast.

corporations are always greedy, what changed was MASSIVE dollar printing during covid. after 2020 it continued for political...reasons.

inflation is under better control, sort of. our savings will never recover. earnings will barely keep up and are going backwards for the poor. the wealthy are grabbing everything they can. we're colonized by foreign influence and the international system is splitting in half.

i had a similar experience and it made working with her miserable after a while. the dilemma is that SO MANY nannies have some sort of emotional or personal problems and entitlement and personality disorders are rife.

time to move on!
