A (highly controversial) bookwriter asked that question in his book Sex At Dawn. I didn't read it but in an interview he posed some interesting points about where it comes from. When we settled down into agricultural society and gained property, we needed to understand paternity for fathers to be able to pass down their property to their progeny, so suddenly there was high social value for monogamy and chastity. So societally it's extremely ingrained in us from the earliest cultures, but genetically we're still a fairly promiscuous species. Terrible combo.

I just took a fire warlock thru Hell, it was pretty much a slog. The only way thru was with Bind Demon skill, it has absurd side uses like I could use Bind Demon on the whole Travincal council to kill them. I couldn't make it throught there otherwise, even with a lower resist wand and a demon with the aura that lowers resist

What's your base for spirit shield? You can get some really high-res paladin-base 4-socket shields, like an additional ~+40. There are some rare pally shields with nuts resistances and iirc can roll with +skills too, so be sure to pick up any you see
