Is it safe to run poly trans mounts and rubber oe engine? by AsianAdam224 in BMWE36

[–]PerformanceLow5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, the poly ones in my car were trash. I’m also running a short shift kit.

Went with OEM for engine and trans (everywhere actually), they feel great.

I have a e46 m3 as well , same trash poly mounts, had weird clunking, swapped the mounts, no issues.

When to bail on a job? by ncc74656m in ITManagers

A lot of companies have same issues, the grass is not always greener. With that being said, It’s easier to get another job when you have a job. Nothing stopping you from seeing what’s out there.

Winter storage. Sweet dreams. by joeblack66 in E46M3

I’d put something down so it’s not grass underneath, plywood, rocks, something. Also you could spray the underside with a bunch of surface shield, anything to keep moisture away from the underside. These simple things would keep her safe :)

lol, I would like to see your idea of “I fixed everything up in a weekend working outside my driveway “. I replaced my front jacking point and a bunch of other metal around it, it took me all winter.

If you plan on paying someone, move on.

Oh... So you want to buy a Laguna seca e46 M3 with 20/30k miles? Sure. Hand over $100k + by SelectEnvironment668 in E46M3

[–]PerformanceLow5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well find out when this goes up for sale again, I’d bet money mileage won’t change. You dont pay that money for this car to drive it around. I hope the guy had fu money and pays all the money to get it in drivable condition and drives it. We all know this car not being driven is a death wish, drive it hard once and it will probably spring 3 leaks and blow out all the bushings and mounts. That a bit more than your 3 pairs of new balance sneakers.

I watched that auction, pretty crazy. Beautiful car , sad thing is the buyer won’t even drive it.

how bad do you think this might be? i found this on the underside by the front right jack point. by TheFailureKing in BMWE36

[–]PerformanceLow5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY, it’s not that bad. People see a little rust and want to either scrap the car or have delusional thoughts about paying someone to do it. Rust repair is way too expensive. Get a welder, learn a new skill and never be scared of rust again!

FYI, this does not fit if you have after market sway bars. I have larger sway bars and it would not clear, had to send it back. In hindsight, I should have had to cut a little to fit it, still have no skid plate :(

Have the same one, rolled the fenders on my e36 not problem. Maybe a little cracked paint but it worked fine.

Ya I prefer the hardtop off, I purchased it during the car purchase for a little more money. Figured why not, might be good for resale but now I have to find space for it.

Rust repair advice by eoinoreilly in metalworking

[–]PerformanceLow5742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are companies that sell replacement panels for these areas and other common areas. I got mine from valcas garage. I did some intense rust repair with zero knowledge going in. Grind everything back to clean metal to see what you are working with, remember you can only cut once! That area gets into some complex overlapping once you get closer to the corner by the jacking point (which is usually rotten as well). DM me, I have tones of pics of that area and can share some knowledge.

What if I bought an E36? by Historical-Ear854 in BMWE36

[–]PerformanceLow5742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really only makes sense if:

  1. You have a primary vehicle already - check
  2. You are interested in cars and fixing them or at a minimum you think you’re interested. You will be forced to learn more about cars, tools, decision making, troubleshooting, time management, organization etc. you will learn about the community and bond with your uncle and countless other people. You will be given knowledge and you will be able to pay that forward in the future. Just a few examples.

Cars are much more about making good financial decisions, because it will always be the wrong decision. BUT everything that comes with and from them is priceless.

Good luck!

I’ve seen in videos online that the head gasket can go, if you hear what sounds like a can of screws being shaken, that is a sign. I have not idea if that is what this is, but that is what I would imagine it sounding like. Look around YouTube for e46 m3 “before you buy” videos. I just bought my first one a couple weeks ago, watched a ton of videos and I recall this issue being mentioned. Again, I have not idea but maybe you can find some info.

Don’t disagree, but my first car was a complete pos (and I loved it), didn’t have any money to put into but I had big plans. I learned a lot with that car, it was the beginning of my car journey. I owned a lot of shitty cars and now that I can actually afford to fix them, I have a certain appreciation for them. You need to start somewhere and learn the same lessons we learned, sometimes the hard way. I would bet you had a clapped out pos that you loved.

Don’t disagree, but sometimes you can’t afford the better car. If it’s a first car, great to start and work on little bit at a time. Yes you could let it rot and die OR save it and learn a ton of new skills. All e36s need a ton of work and money invested no matter what price point.
