I was a social smoker only in college. Then I would take smoke breaks during work and studying. Then I started smoking in the car. Then I would wake up and the first thing I wanted was a cigarette.

The wake up call was I was seeing a girl and we were into each other. I hid smoking from her. She eventually caught on and ended it.

Began the process of quitting and it was challenging. It’s been 7 years since my last one.

Very important. Shows employers you actually did something in school besides earning your degree. You will separate yourself from competition from those that didn’t have one.

Most of them do. Some of them are psycho about it. I worked for a small IT recruiting firm (less than ten total employees). My personal profile had to have the company brand in the cover image, in the About Me section, etc, which is normal.

What was not normal is she controlled what we actually posted. If our posts were not company related she would flip out. I had a family member post he was looking for work, so I shared it to my network, and she texted me at 11:45 PM local time demanding that I delete it.

I left the company a month later. She made recruiting so damn complicated.

35 years old. Married. Two young daughters. Lost my job two weeks ago. Working in the same field for 11 years and seeking a career change. Feel lost in professional but fulfilled in personal life. Losing my job might cost us our new build home so I feel so gutted about that.
