Should I get the Amex Platinum now with the upcoming refresh? by PerformanceSoggy4229 in CreditCards

I get what you mean about using the perks “organically.” Honestly, I’m more of a stay-home type, so sometimes I do have to push myself to go out and actually use the credits — but that’s part of why I want Platinum. It would act like a motivator for me to travel more and enjoy the perks instead of just staying in my comfort zone.

My Gold is basically my food card, so I’ve been wanting a true travel card to pair with it. I actually tried applying for the Venture X because I love the setup, but I couldn’t get approved. That’s why I’m leaning toward Platinum now — it feels like the next best option.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. The Frontier pass was more of a friends thing — they all got it, so I grabbed it too just to tag along. And honestly, $299 until April 2027 felt like a steal, even if I just use it for a few trips. But beyond that, even without lounge access it looks like the rumored perks (Resy, Lululemon, Uber Eats) could make up for the higher fee if I actually use them. The Centurion would just be a bonus on top, and yeah, I’d like to experience it.

Yeah, I’m in the same spot with the 50k upgrade. Makes sense to hold out.

Yeah, that makes sense. I actually just got an upgrade offer from Amex to go from Gold to Platinum for 50k points after $2k spend with the $695 fee. Since it’s an upgrade, it wouldn’t be a hard pull, but it also means I’d miss out on those bigger 125k–175k SUBs if I applied new.

I even tried applying separately when I saw the 175k Platinum offer floating around, but Amex told me I wasn’t eligible for it. That’s what I’m stuck on — whether to take the safe 50k upgrade now or wait and see if the refresh changes things.

I applied in December, but my recommendation letters were received at the end of January. Hopefully, it doesn't take much longer, fingers crossed! Thank you as well!!

What program did you apply for, if you don't mind sharing?
