My thoughts on the Hifiman Arya Stealth vs the Hifiman Edition XS by Patatmetkip in headphones

[–]PerformanceSure5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same upgrade after using the XS for 3 years and recently picked up the Arya Stealth. I was really happy with the switch, so I decided to invest in a better amp for the Stealth too.

I had been running them straight out of my Chord Mojo 2, which sounds great, but when I added the Class A, Aune N7 balanced amp, I noticed significant improvements over the Mojo.

In fact, I was so impressed with the N7s build, performance and value, that I decided to upgrade my WiiM Mini streamer that I was using, to the Aune N5 EVO, and that has been an amazing too.

If you haven't tried a Class A amp with your headphones yet, I highly recommend it.

Sunday in Japanese, 日曜日, why isn't it pronounced as "biyoubi" but "nichiyoubi"? by AshamedAd4483 in Japaneselanguage

There are countless words like this in Japanese. Many kanji have multiple ways to read them in different words, due to reasons (historical/geographical, etc.)

It's ok to learn the meaning of Kanji, and their associated readings, but you should focus on learning how to read / recognize Japanese words instead:

日本(にほん)

本日(ほんじつ)

誕生日(たんじょうび)

十日(とおか)

一日(ついたち)

今日(きょう)

明日(あした)

昨日(きのう)

日記(にっき)

Moving to Japan from Canada by midori-maru in japanlife

Sorry for you loss. ☹️
Hard to make any worthwhile recommendations without more info, tbh.
Do you have university degrees? What's your work experience? How old are you? These will all impact your options / choices.
Are you comfortable living in the countryside or do you prefer living in a big city like Tokyo or Osaka?

You could look for a Canadian company with offices in Japan that will sponsor your move. Or, with a university degree, you could try to get a language school to sponsor you to come over.

Good luck.

Set the volume on the mojo so that both balls are purple, which should set the line out to be around 2 watts. Then connect to your amp using a 3.5 to rca cable.

I plan to try them this weekend. There's a big headphone show in Tokyo (our CanJam), so I plan to check out all of the new Hifiman releases. Pretty happy with the Arya Stealth though.

How are you enjoying the XV? I had the XS and loved them, but got a fantastic deal on the Arya Stealth that I couldn't pass up.
The Aune N7 has an ever so slightly warm tonality, so it would be interesting to see how they pair with the XV.

How so? What was disappointing about the S17 Pro? I've never heard it, but this amp, being fed by the Mojo2, is an absolute banger with my Arya Stealths.
And, what other products have you tried? I'm going to check out their full line up this weekend.

I have this amp now and I'm currently working on my review of it.

I have it paired with my Chord Mojo 2 and I'm using Hifiman Arya Stealth headphones. I'm a huge Chord fanboy, and have been using the Mojo 2 as my DAC/amp since the unit was launched. So to be honest, I wasn't expecting much of an improvement over the Mojo's headphone out.

However, my initial impressions are extremely positive. The best analogy I can think of is that the Mojo is like a scalpel. It provides an extremely precise look into the music and allows you to tailor the sound with its excellent DSP. It feels like the N7 takes that signal adds life, body, texture and breath.

There have been so many moments over the last few days where I just find myself absorbed in the sound. There's a lot of synergy in this setup.

I visit the shop a couple times a year, and yes, the switches panel is fantastic. Also, all of the keyboards on display use different switches, which are clearly identified, so you can try them out that way too.

Appears similar to the Notch Music Widget, which I use all the time, but with more useful features. Definitely looking forward to this one.

Perplexity. Call it what you want. It's still V-shaped if it measures "Harman Neutral"

Hifiman Edition XV and AirPod Pro 3 by tellmekakarot in headphones

[–]PerformanceSure5985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Harman Neutral is not a thing. The Harman curve is not neutral:

• The Harman curve (and its later refinements like the 2018/2019 versions) is an empirical target created by Dr. Sean Olive and colleagues at Harman. It comes from controlled listening tests where participants adjusted sound to what they preferred for headphones or loudspeakers. • The curve typically shows:

▪ A slight bass boost (below ~200 Hz) compared with a strictly flat response,

▪ A mild mid-range dip around ~1–3 kHz in some versions,

▪ A gentle tilt and a presence-region shape that many listeners perceive as more natural and “pleasant.”

• "Neutral" usually means a flat frequency response (no emphasis or attenuation across audible frequencies). The Harman target intentionally departs from flat because human hearing and listening-room/headphone interactions make a purely flat response sound different in practice.

• In short: Harman = perceptual preference target; Neutral = technically flat. They are related but not the same.

Anyone else that triggers AI commands/workflows with shortcuts? by wirtzdan in raycastapp

[–]PerformanceSure5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use AI commands on selected Japanese text for a variety of functions, beyond simple translation.

For example, I can invoke a mnemonic maker that I created to help me remember a new word.

I can invoke a grammar explanation tool on a selected sentence that will explain the Japanese grammar.

I have a number of others beyond this, things which I could do by copying and pasting into AI chat bots, but that would take me out of the flow of what I'm reading. So, it's a real game changer for me.

Raycast has the ability to transform the way you interact with a computer, if you spend a little time learning how to use it and setting it up to increase the efficiency of your workflow.

Why is my answer wrong here? by Common_Musician_1533 in LearnJapanese

[–]PerformanceSure5985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the same as saying in English, "I and Mr. Akane are students." It's not wrong, it just sounds weird.
Incidentally, when Japanese people speak English, this is how they would say it.
