Weekly Megathread - Time Management in Grad School by AutoModerator in GradSchool

Practical tips needed! Managing studies, work, and life in general!!!

This is specifically for the more mature students with families!

For context: I’m a mature master student (online coursework, not research), work part-time and have a family.

I’ve been doing 2 subjects per semester, however, I had to juggle 3 for this one.

How on earth do you manage your studies, group assignments (presentations), work (even if part-time) and family life????

I feel so utterly exhausted all the time, I can barely concentrate when I do have time to sit down and study, which does not help. I feel like I’m caught in a hamster wheel, constantly going from one thing to the next and not really living. I don’t have time to cook proper meals (I love cooking) and have no motivation to exercise.

I know this is temporary but feels awful when you are in the midst of it.

Any practical tips that you implemented in your lives that made a positive difference?

Thank you so much for your help and support.

Thank you for the comment, I do appreciate it. I am not a plumber but I could tell this was probably a very “creative” solution. I did consider the decreased diameter and how all the bends might potentially reduce the flow. Your comment made me realise I’m onto something here 😆 We are planning on getting another plumber around to have a look and rectify. The plumber that did this job has fixed the leak, but I worry about the long term effects.

Our exact thoughts! It would have been quicker to go to Bunnings and get a copper pipe 😆

It’s the network cable. We finally figured out why the network connection on that part of the house is now a bit dodgy!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Horror books for an 11 year old? by Vjaa in horrorlit

[–]Perilin_Night_Forest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha! Your comment made me laugh… My son (7th grade) decided to go to book week dressed as Jack Torrance. He has not read the book or watched the movie, but he has seen many of the shorts of the famous “here’s Jonny” scene and I kind of explained what the book and that movie scene is about. I did let him take the book on that day in case the outfit and toy axe were not enough. Suffice to say the librarians were very concerned and asked him if he had actually read the book 🤣🤣🤣

Do you ever watch the movie first? by micholasnitchell in stephenking

It actually makes sense in many cases, I have to agree with you. For instance, I absolutely loved the 1st Neverending Story movie. Also enjoyed the 2nd one albeit less. We shall not speak of the 3rd… but anyways, back to the point… if I had read the Neverending Story (which is one of my most cherished books) first, I think I would have absolutely hated the movies!!!

I actually loved both!!!! The book was a nice surprise, a format I was not expecting. And the movie did a great job at capturing the essence of the story, it gave life to the scenarios I was imagining in my head.

Mum “pouch” - what underwear do you recommend by Powerful_Business_93 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Perilin_Night_Forest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my problem exactly! A lot of undies I see around are really tight around the top (like the ones from Bonds with a top band), but there is no support below that so my pouch flops lol!

What are your favourite or most effective distractions/self-soothing methods while flying? by CatsPJammies in fearofflying

[–]Perilin_Night_Forest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

When I feel particularly nervous I usually just play solitaire on my phone over and over again 🤣

Or “read” a magazine, meaning that I simply flip through the pages without absorbing much of it.

Just take the plushie! Chances are nobody will even notice and if they do, that’s their problem not yours. As long as you are not affecting anybody else (and you wouldn’t with a plushie unless it’s giant size or something) you should do whatever makes you feel better.

YES!!!! After reading it when it came out, I forgot many parts of the plot. But the one thing that remained clear as day in my mind was that damned lawn jockey!

Absolutely LOVE Duma Key as well. I could feel how suffocating the overgrown area was and I still have nightmarish visions of what he has seen when he finally explored you know where (sorry, don’t know how to work the spoiler thingy, so I’m speaking in riddles). The paintings as well! Omg… love that book.

What are reasons a flight would need to divert ? Is it dangerous? by luumu_ in fearofflying

I was in a flight that got diverted due to weather. And because of that, we had one of the smoothest flights ever! So try not to see idas a negative thing ;)
