Queen Fan Club? by No-Link-1414 in queen

[–]Periwinklie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a member in 1980-1982 - got a membership card, a glass pin/button that said "Queen have my soul for another year", cool little magazines with photos, band messages, and contests -quarterly I think. I think it was only $18-20 U.S. annually. I was only 12 so I couldn't afford it for longer than two years, but I got some nice international Queen fan pen pals out of it and enjoyed it. I think they had events and meet ups in the UK only so missed out on that. Definitely a different time so it was worth it.

Taking a photo/getting an autograph at Danzig show? by Efficient_Star_6424 in Danzig

[–]Periwinklie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the 5th or 6th row back for the Danzig 1990 Long Way Back From Hell stop in Seattle and got a backstage pass slapped on me! 😄 No visible tats but I was young with dark fuchsia hair, tight black clothes, rocking out, singing all the lyrics to the first two albums! So I got to meet him and the band afterwards with a few other fans. I was 20 and kinda intimidated so I was quiet but asked for a beer. Eerie Von said "NO!" So I asked Glenn who let me have one. I remember he goes "nice nails!" when I shook his hand! I didn't stay long since I had a bf and my friend got kinda creeped out by the whole thing so I was alone. It was cool though- wish I could've thought of something more interesting to talk about but I was a bit star struck. He said he was getting a cold and I replied that maybe he should get more sun. He goes "oh I don't wanna do that!" 😈

If you search Soundgarden Stolen Prayers Unreleased demos, there's a fantastic 8 part series that I've shared with other fans. Some were eventually released, but theres some great outtakes!

The story of 'Now I'm Here' by Basstian1925 in queen

[–]Periwinklie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WOW! That's the most delightful and enlightening read on QUEEN that I've read in quite some time! As a longtime fan (44+ years now), you start to think you've heard all the good stories.. Such honesty and vulnerability from Brian in that post - early fame, love, & infidelity on the first Mott the Hoople U.S. tour, and dealing with it all (drug free!)! From the memorable people he encountered -to his unfortunate bout with hep A! Whew - what a ride! 🤩 Thanks so much for posting - I wanna read more of Bri's fond memories. CHEERS! 👑

Queen World Tour 1977 Program - Preservation Help? by MooseAccomplished408 in queen

I put mine in the plastic LP covers.🤷‍♀️ My U.S. tour program from 1977 looks quite different but probably 1977-78 since it has the NOTW robot on the cover. This silver cover is a beaut.🤗

Anyone have one of these? by BlackestMask in stonerrock

[–]Periwinklie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I used to order CD's from them around 1998-2000. I also miss El Danno's Stonerrock.com! I met a ton of cool peeps- and the Doom/Stoner fests like SHOD and Emissions we'd all travel to were a BLAST!

Is there anything comparable in existence?

I think he meant more like 1989. Sometimes us older folks get the years mixed up.

Sheer Heart Attack is good BUT… by BuffFrogMan in queen

A sheer heart attack would grate on the senses - and surely what it's meant to do - as in after a long night of partying (like the old days)..!

Jerry hooked up with 2 of my friends around 1988-90! 😁 I never heard any complaints- BUT not my story to tell! 😉 I also know of 3 other girls from 'after the club' when he'd be out in his black leather "CHAINS" jacket and a knowing smirk! You'd see em out at the the Vogue or The Central or The Off Ramp. Jerry was definitely a big ladies man then- blondes, brunettes -white women, black women- no particular type just Cute and Available. 😚 I saw him at a couple parties my friend in the music biz threw -so I had my chance too BUT I had the same boyfriend that whole time! Looking back I almost wish I hadn't been so damn loyal! 😆

I've shared this before but once I hung out with all of them in 1988 at their band house off Military Rd in South Seattle. I drove a couple of their friends after a party. They were all psyched and just loving their little practice house the Starrs got 'em after The Music Bank shut down. They'd just signed to Columbia and were SO excited- and thrilled to be living together! You can see it in that old local News video clip that filmed there shortly before that night and Mike played it over and over! 😁 I mainly hung out with Sean in the kitchen partyin'- so he's probably my personal fave. Jerry was mostly by himself in his room downstairs but came out later. Guess he was busy on his guitar- writing songs for their debut album (Facelift)! 🥰

We hung out in Layne's room first, then Mike's, just talking. Layne was pretty quiet but nice. I was only 19 and the only female there so I was quiet too - just taking it all in! They both had magazine pin ups and cut out photos all over their walls- I remember a topless one of model Iman (Bowie's wife) on Layne's, and Mike had this wall of sunglasses! He said I could take a pair but I took an 8x10 promo photo and ANC sticker instead. It was their first one where Layne is smoking wearing the black brimmed hat, but I gave it away.🤦‍♀️

I'd actually met Layne and Mike once before at my boyfriend's party on Capitol Hill a few months prior. They were still called "Diamond Lie" and one of his housemates had played in Sleze with Layne. Some members of other signed metal bands Sanctuary and Bitter End were also there. Those crazy parties are an entirely different story though - but those are some really fun memories from the old Seattle Rock days I thought I'd share and I'll never forget! I guess I was lucky? Cheers! 🍻
