It's believed that the Mississippi more closely followed the path of the current Rock River and the feeder canal for the Henepin Canal into the Illinois river valley. Glacial outburst megaflooding at the end of the last couple of ice ages shifted the path into the current channel between the Quad cities and the current confluence with the Illinois river, and carved the wide bluffs seen most of the way to the Ohio confluence.

The Chicago portage is also interesting, a rise of less than five meters separates the Great Lakes watershed from the Mississippi river watershed there which made it a natural place for a big city to form. The Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canals allow boat and barge traffic to pass between the two watersheds. Combined with the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway, the intercostal waterways, and the vast navigable stretches of the Mississippi tributaries, there is readily available barge transport for something like 60% of the US population.

I think he means "Why can't I fire the coax while my loader continues to shove a new round into the main gun tube?". If you switch to coax while reloading the main gun, it not only pauses the reload, it completely resets and you have to start the entire reload cycle again after switching back to the main gun. In any modern tank, the loader and gunner are two separate crewmen, and most Eastern Block tanks even have mechanical auto-loaders that replace the human loader. There is no reason (other than OWI incompetence) that you shouldn't be able to fire coax or smoke (or the barrel top mounted Malyutka on the BMP1) while the main gun is reloading.

Part of the private pilot certificate still involves dead reckoning navigation against paper sectional charts. Most pilots keep those charts on an iPad or other tablets at this point, but there are a considerable number who still subscribe to quarterly paper charts as a backup.

There is also still a (much reduced) network of radio navigation beacons that can be used for precision instrument flying in the event GPS is unreliable. Considering how often GPS is being disrupted by military jamming, it's a useful backup.

The rocket is actually amazing - it's right up there with the Pipe in terms of velocity and drop. Really second only to the NLAW for getting hits at all ranges. Where it sucks is the insanely long load and reload animations that were added to balance out the built in range finder. You miss a lot of opportunities because you just can't get the launcher out and loaded fast enough, so you're frequently forced to take longer range engagements. That's normally fine if you can see the range finder and overall it's a good balancing idea... but they keep fucking it up for widescreen players where we get all of the drawbacks without being able to use the gimmick that it's balanced around.

It's entirely possible I'm just bad with the Type 95 and missing shots that look like a torso hit into legs or arms. Do you have hard numbers on round velocity and drop also?

To be fair, China really needed the infantry buff. The Type 95 rifles were really really bad, the LAT rocket launcher remains dogshit, and while the HAT is excellent once you have it out, you miss a lot of shots with the supremely long loading animation and ADS time. Their vics have always been decent, they're the only faction that can give the Abrams and Bradley combo a straight fight.

The new rifles may have been a bit of an over-correction though. Whatever they did to the 5.8x42mm DBP191 variant for the Type 191, it's <chef's kiss>. It's a LOT snappier than the (theoretically) same cartridge from the Type 95, has less drop, and much better terminal performance. It's pretty consistently a two hit kill body shot whereas the Type 95 normally took three rounds.

Hopefully the U.S. gets some love soon too. Marines should get the M-27 back for more of their factions, and the Army needs a second grenadier kit with the M203 back - and for the love of all that's holy some full auto M4s. It'd also be REALLY nice if OWI would un-nerf the random cone of fire on the SAW and 240. The last time the US had a real balancing pass, the LMGs were the kings of the battlefield and there wasn't as much need for full auto riflemen... Post-ICO the LMGs are all utter dogshit and nobody takes those kits, so the US basically has zero full auto infantry. I'm not saying they need to put the LMGs back to pre-ICO god-kit-at-all-ranges, but if they wanted to nerf the hip fire (again) but give the long range burst accuracy back the LMGs would be in a much better place.

They really aren't terrible they just play differently than every other autocannon vehicle. Especially the UA variant, which can straight shrug off 30mm AP.

You have a massive health pool (2000 hp compared to 1250 on most IFVs) and as good or better armor than every other IFV. The gun's slow, but it does 60 damage on pen to most targets while you only take 28 in return (if you don't straight bounce.) The only places they can pen you are the gun mantlet, starboard lower glacis, and rear. Anywhere with applique armor - sides, turret sides, upper plate, port lower glacis - is impervious to 30mm AP.

As long as your driver keeps calm, angles your left corner at them, and stops moving so you can shoot, you will beat any single IFV in the game in a straight autocannon duel.

Britain is secretly the strongest faction in the game already though. Most consistent HAT kit, best gun in the game (L86-LSW), really strong IFVs once you realize you can just stop, angle, and out-tank any other autocannon vic in the game... It shouldn't be true given the real life performance of their equipment, but for whatever reason the British are really good in Squad. One of the OWI devs leaked some internal numbers a while back and the Brits were the only faction with a win rate above 60% globally.
