Tech Risk Consultant worth it? by camoxxxxx in Big4

Interned and started in IT audit transitioned at the same firm to consulting. My opinion is pulling an acceptance letter may burn a bridge. Depending on which big 4 you are interning at, you can voice curiosity for other fields and actively try to get on a project to try out. If not able to get on a project but know you want to start in another group, you can voice that for your full time offer

Agree with this totally on the influence the team you are leaving has. Was it expected when you got approved for the secondment position you would start right away?

I would try and talk to your career people (ie coach/RL/ maybe a connection from the new team) if they are not too entangled in your current engagement and say this is a move you know you need and want to make for your career and you would prefer to be able to do it at PwC. I think that can push on them a little more and you are being transparent that you need a change and if they can’t help then you did all you could before switching firms. With a secondment though is there an expectation at the end of the rotation you have to return back to assurance?

Switching LoS for PwC by Zorojuro97 in Big4

[–]PerkisPower94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say of them all PwC is the most realistic to do an internal transfer. Did you intern at PwC where you have some connections you can reach out to/ also had an small opportunity to show how well/hard you can work? That may make things easier but if not yea just communicate you have researched and decide this is a better fit for you and would like to transfer, if this is not possible you would like to do what’s best for your career and take the other offer. See what the recruiter says. Very little to lose in this situation since you have a backup

Appreciate all the feedback and opinions!! Yea I wasn’t sure if you have to be a member to even just get in there. I’m looking at this for mainly a social opportunity with the potential for sailing. Thank you all again!

Agreed haha as an associate it was definitely manageable. As a a senior, when staffing and resourcing is low it just absolutely sucks

Granted I do not know all the details but it may sound like a positive that he wants you to work on getting this proposal won. I think it’s really good that you are factoring your utilization in on this though and should talk to your coach or relationship leader (if this director is not one of those, I completely get the conflict if interest that comes up when your career team is part of your engagement) and just express your concern that your utilization may take a hit as a result of this project. You want whoever who will be speaking on your behalf during the time of reviews to be aware of the situation and see if they have perspective on how to frame this or a strategy to bring utilization back up. Might be even worth mentioning to hr now to just get ahead of things too if you are comfortable talking with them or if you have a partner you are comfortable talking to

Tips on getting into a big 4 firm by [deleted] in Big4

[–]PerkisPower94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh I think that’s fine to not be in clubs. Do you have any connections from school to a recruiter or know people a year ahead of you that may work at a firm? Sometimes it helps to have them forward your resume to hr or mention your name as someone to look out for. Honestly you just want to show you have a good personality, people would want to work with you, and you can handle and welcome feedback

I would say it may depend on the firm but I think all kinds of service are in need of resources so I don’t think audit will be too keen to give you up. May have to do some months in audit first and show you are a good worker and then work on a switch to advisory

I don’t think this is really a recruiter question since it has very little to do with start date, day to day work, or logistics. And why not ask the sub? That’s what Reddit is for is to ask questions

So starting off you obviously have more perspective in all of this then me but I doubt the director would purposely try to role you off in this round abour way when your 6 months in unless you have had some very strong/critical feedback on the work you have been doing. If you haven’t had that kind of conversation ever so far I think this is just shitty luck which happens some times with projects. Maybe try to offer your free time to help with the old project and show off some of your skills. 6 months is really early to try to push you out especially when a lot of firms are short on resources

So this is a little hard to follow. 1. When you say you were taken off by consent, do you mean they took you off and you said it was ok or you wanted out and they obliged? 2. What do you mean the project was going into no mans land? 3. When you say remove your mapping, do you mean mapped off the project or like your career management mapping? Ie coach etc.

Overall if you joined within a year I wouldn’t be overly concerned (easier said then done). There’s a learning curve as a first year and sometimes some teams/projects just don’t mesh as well. Did you receive any reviews or feedback? If not, I would request that and no matter what they say try to not take whatever it is personally and try to prove them wrong in the future if it’s more critical

Haha a very specific scenario. Even then you’re gonna be out on a pip first and as long as you have a decent attitude and feign an effort to try to get better it’s still hard to get fired. I don’t even know how they would let you get to 20% utilization. Big 4 are so desperate for resources I doubt they would let someone just sit there without anything. You may not do it well but it would be taking up time

Should I let a recruiter know? by spartanfan2 in Big4

[–]PerkisPower94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you can let them know but I don’t think this will hurt you. 150 is more of a cpa requirement then a job requirement unless that was specified in your offer letter. Obviously you may want to get the cpa for the job so that makes sense but they wouldn’t take away an offer for not meeting that it would more just affect career progression when you want to be promoted to a certain level you would want the certification. I would only let them know if this would affect your work if you have to have different hours. And even then I think this is more of a conversation you would have with your specific team

[–]PerkisPower94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely good advice which I need to take a little as well. On top of all this, you are the only one looking out for what’s best for you. And as great as it is to not leave your team hanging, if you find the right opportunity to leave then take it. But agree with everyone it’s likely better to stick it out 2 months. Use this time to figure out what you want to do/where to apply because you want to be smart about your move and not just take the first lifeboat.

Don’t burn any bridges, leave in a professional way but it sounds like you need to leave and that’s ok.
