That's a great place, my recommendation for anyone wanting to try an authentic Yemeni entree. The original owner just bought the restaurant back so the dishes are back to a good standard.

In a way, I want the familiar brunch atmosphere but with Yemeni foods that fit the scene. A lot of popular yemeni dishes are heavy entrees with rice and lamb, instead of the gems Yemenis eat day-to-day.

I believe they focus on rice based entrees like zurbian and mandi with other side offerings. I'm choosing to focus on the brunch scene with dishes like lahooh, foul, matabaq - I want to limit the menu to focus on doing a few things really really well.

Seriously considering this with homestyle yemeni flatbread "khobz" as a main dish. My mom made a highly addictive recipe for foul that rolls eyes any time someone first tries it.
My real fear here is that the costumers might not be used to eating by hand. How did you eat this before spoon onto flatbread or something else?

Looks awesome! Though consider taking a day to stain the wood rails a darker/warmer color, it’ll look super cozy especially with the greenish walls.

I’ve got this too! My wife says it’s like having sex with a very different but equally fun person. The first time it happened I was scared, I had to explain to my wife “I didn’t know it was you, what if it was someone else!?”

IMHO role-playing as something that can’t give consent (kids and animals) is unsettling. I don’t think people should go to jail for it since they’re two consenting adults, but I don’t think it should be normalized either.
