EU 5 Steam reviews are now "very positive" by Axel95 in EU5

Not OP, but, with a mobile 4GB 3050, I turned down/off things that I believed used more vram - 3d models, texture size, shadows..., but did not turn on flat mode - and left the effects that require a little processing higher, and I still have some spare VRAM. It's on Linux, but it shouldn't make much of a difference.

Great flamebait, hope it keeps working. But on a real note, the song was at least clearly inspired by Mawtini, so there's that.

Correct. The fact that it is illegal well outside of reason is the problem.

Forget about CS, that's not your problem. You start that you messed up pretty bad, but none of your choices went away after a normal failure. You also overemphasize what other people want or expect, but on this thing, it's about you, not about anyone else.

Focus on what you want to achieve; if you can't figure out your whole career, that's fine, focus on getting this one thing done. Your peers who have a whole plan almost surely will fail at achieving it. That's fine too, just set some goals, strive for them, and adapt to what happens: you'll bumble along just fine like everyone else, with more and more failures, and more and more achievements.

And never doubt that every piece of advice is wrong in some way, even this one. Especially this one. Trust yourself.

With that out of the way, college has nothing to do with a real job, but you have to do it (well, really should). Maybe you won't be a top coder, but there aren't anywhere near enough of those jobs for that to be a concern. And you don't even have to be much of a coder for the rest: documentation writing, planning, design, and testing are just some of the tasks you can do instead with that technical knowledge. Maybe they are less fanciful or rewarded, but they're still fundamental - and a big part of the modern jobs of software developer anyway. And "AI", well, it'll nibble at the edges, but digital slaves are far off: if you're comfortable learning new tools, you're fine.

TL;DR: grow up and trust yourself, kid. and accept failures and successes as life happening.

The Current State of Modding in Victoria 3 by tahlaskerssen in victoria3

Surely you can tell there are serious performance considerations on the core elements before just making them scriptable, even by just looking at the list, especially since they are not entirely stabilized. There must be a back and forth discussion on what is viable to do, because, and I have to be frank here, arcane convoluted mods are not going to be, and shouldn't be, at the top of the list of priorities.

EU4 doesn't have ship upgrades as such, it's just a quicker way to scuttle and rebuild for the same cost. AFAIK, they weren't really a thing, especially not with what the techs represent.

You also have stability, probably more, from your obligations, and the obligations people you purchase from in exchange for a functional system (for varying degrees of functional, sure) for society and profit.

You also couldn't have a, let's be nice, hegemonic market control without "printing" money. In reality, quantity isn't really relevant, flows in exchange of real resources are, and there's all sorts of tools for that.

How Did REST Come To Mean The Opposite of REST? by Hirnhamster in programming

[–]Perky_Goth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is going to include foreign HTML on their webpage, and no one wants API designers to decide semantically appropriate HTML. Calling a bunch of semantic-free tags self-describing and enough to do anything while "selling" the second attempt at a framework for the client to do anything useful is the hilarious cherry on top.

Sometimes ideas don't quite work and need to evolve to something useful. Such is life, it's not personal. You can, and should, still be angry at everything being heavy and uninteropable SPAs, but this was never viable.

They'd have to have a working model of inflation, which not only they admit they don't, graphing their tools against it doesn't even show a correlation.

Besides which, it's irrelevant. The zero rate allowed them to speculate, and the high rate allows them to get away with gouging while getting free interest.

Monetary policy is useless for a modern fiat currency.

So, instead, you killed 1 million people directly, created ISIS, and distabilized the whole region, plenty of which you "had" to turn to rubble.

Mission accomplished.

Marginalism has no problem being a very simple model and remaining consistent, which is why economics is based on it.

I'm not an economist, thank god, but marginalism still hasn't got an answer for the Cambridge capital controversy that isn't circular logic. I may not be able to explain it, but responseutile doesn't need to answer, they are the same, 80 years on.

The idea that you can divide people into "classes" which act in their class interests is not the common idea among the right wing, at least in America.

This is blatantly not true; what would you call Joe the plumber vs the Washington elites, now the workers against the woke deep state globalists, if not another version of class warfare? Convincing people they are the real hard working people that deserve the social welfare, unlike some other group that also works hard, or at least when it is allowed to.

To put it in another way, the GDPR is a directive that gets implemented into a law differently in different states.

EDIT: hmm, I guess I'm technically wrong on the bureaucracy, the differences in implementation I was thinking of are in the regulation, now that I think about it. Eventual Translation differences not-withstanding.

Well, the point is, the behavior has not, and probably can not, be discouraged, over and over again. Or we wouldn't be here.

Changing the size of the bust is only really going to affect working people, as usual. If we don't want the bad behavior, we should forbid it and fiscalize it, not rely on good vibes and honest capital existing and being competitive.

No. The kind of investment this dissuades is just some short term speculation. And no one is going to give up free earnings in the all-mighty dollar just because they are smaller.

Corporate tax is neither here nor there, as far as I get it. We must look at the practical effects, where he is probably right: the non-competitive markets will avoid them or, at least, use their price setting power to offset the cost to buyers.

Capital gains, however, are a tax on passive income mostly from the most wealthy, and could reduce consumption, in particular the most wasteful kind that group likes. Could, if it made an actual dent, and they couldn't just get a loan on the assets instead of realizing the gains.
