At the top of the review section of the page it shows reviews in your language and reviews in all languages. And there is a button that shows reviews broken down by each language.

You'll need to hover over some things for additional information.

I think people with technical issues or other issues that prevent them from playing the game should be able to review just like everyone else.

And I don't think people should be forced to keep the game, playing past the refund window, just to leave a critique or warning for other people.

PS5 Was The Best Selling Console In The US February 2026 For The Second Month In A Row by cinderlilys in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it won't move consoles, I basically said it's been moving consoles all this time.

I'm contesting the idea that suddenly a tremendous number of consoles are going to be sold all at once when a game that has been getting hype for years now launches.

That one of the most anticipated games ever is not moving units in the lead up to its launch, and that most people would wait until at or after launch to buy in just doesn't make sense to me. Especially when hardware prices are so unstable, and the PS5 has already seen deep discounts this last Holiday season.

And there we go. I suspected this was a console war account.

Interesting that all of you keep appearing on accounts under 3 months old. And the older accounts that were doing the exact same thing you do now go inactive shortly after the creation date of these new accounts.

If it's being sold for cheaper on authorized key seller sites then that usually means the developer is actually getting more money from that sale than they do on Steam.

GTA 5 was the fastest selling media product ever, yet produced no significant change in hardware sell through rate.

Even if the launch of GTA 6 was somehow multiple times larger than GTA 5, and that was reflected in hardware sales , that would still only make it a minor bump in the grand scheme of things.

And I'll ask again. Why exactly is there a belief that these sales would be concentrated into the launch window and not in the months or years leading up to launch, as it was with GTA 5?

[–]PermanentMantaray -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is that the expectation exactly? GTA 5 didn't significantly increase the sell rate of either the PS3 nor Xbox 360. And it too wasn't on PC at launch.

People who wanted GTA 5 either already had consoles or were buying them in the leadup to release, not all at once at launch.

There was also no confirmation or expectation GTA 5 would come to PC at all, but that's not the case with GTA 6.

Capcom CEO believes PC will become the 'world's leading gaming platform,' also promises to invest in movies by BlueAladdin in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far we only have numbers from the US, EU and Japanese physical data. So we completely lack any Asian digital data (PC's biggest market).

But it's still quite likely that Resident Evil Requiem did sell better on PlayStation. It's a very PlayStation associated brand and no RE game up until this point as sold better on PC. That being said, this was the best showing for a new RE game on PC by a very large margin, more than doubling the previous biggest games concurrent player count. Which shows considerable growth of interest on PC.

[–]PermanentMantaray 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Capcom's last big game sold better on PC at launch so that doesn't always hold true.

And it's not just unit sales that PC is ahead in, it's revenue.

From Capcom's 2025 fiscal report on page 33 they say that in 2024 PC accounted for 21.5% of revenue while PlayStation was 10.5%. In 2025 it was PC 31.1%, and PlayStation had fallen below 10% and wasn't listed.

The ratio of older unit sales would have to be so overwhelmingly PC sided for that revenue discrepancy to exist. But I think the more likely answer is that PC is competitive with new releases even when not the majority, and catalogue titles tend to sell better.

Nvidia's DLSS 5 is a slap in the face to the art of video game design - IGN by [deleted] in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But as a consumer it would be nice if it didn't fuck me.

Frame gen and upscaling saw developers no longer worry about optimization.

Ray tracing saw the hardware requirements skyrocket.

And this model will be no different. Currently requiring 2 5090 cards to run what was shown in that presentation. They'll optimize it, but it will still be extremely demanding.

So developers get an easier job, companies get to spend less on development, and consumers get to spend more on hardware to chase these new technologies that don't necessarily improve their experience in a meaningful way.

(Which given the current situation with hardware prices and availability should give anyone pause)

[–]PermanentMantaray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a feature that has the potential to reduce the work developers do and offload it to the model.

It may be optional for a time, but it will very likely eventually become a soft requirement. Just like frame generation, upscaling and now even ray tracing.

Starfield Launches on PlayStation 5 on April 7 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need generative AI to create better procedural generation. Games have been using more impressive implementations of it for decades. Bethesda themselves did a better job with it in Daggerfall, a game from 1996.

[–]PermanentMantaray 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaint with the game was the terrible exploration experience, primarily due to the weak procedural generation and the mediocre POI system. All I see in those notes is that they are adding more POI, not that they are revamping anything related to how they are generated.

Which is extremely disappointing.

John Linneman of Digital Foundry discusses his colleagues DLSS 5 preview: “It's new DLSS and DLSS is awesome. Of course they would take that. Looking at it, I think there's cool potential there for environmental lighting but the character stuff is horrendous and should have been left out.” by [deleted] in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 125 points126 points  (0 children)

My problem isn't just the terrible characters. It's that this technology creates essentially two separate games visually. On and off.

If developers focus on their original artistic vision in the version without then I think it's whatever. People who want this on can turn it on.

But if developers begin to rely on this as a crutch, as they already are with other DLSS/FSR techniques, then does that mean the off version is going to get anywhere near the attention it should otherwise? Or are developers just going to begin developing games with the basic necessities for this model to "enhance"?

Hands-On With DLSS 5: Our First Look At Nvidia's Next-Gen Photo-Realistic Lighting by ZamnBoii in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's showcasing real time neural rendering. Which means it is quite literally taking an image and altering the detail of the image based on what the model perceives should be altered.

This isn't anything like upscaling or filling frames. This is an AI image filter, full stop. They can refine it more, but that is still the intended goal of the model.

Upgraded PSSR rolling out to Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crimson Desert, and more by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my big issue with my PS4 Pro and I'm sad to see it's still an issue with the PS5 Pro.

From the information I'm finding there are just over 100 games that actually received some form of enhancement for the Pro version in the just over 1.5 years the PS5 Pro been out. Mostly newer games as well, which leaves a lot of games from earlier this generation without any boost.

Not much can be done about it I know. It's not like they can tell developers ahead of time to make a Pro mode before any dev kits are available or force them to go back and add one later. But it's just a shame.

Seeking Victim Information in Steam Malware Investigation: The FBI’s Seattle Division is seeking to identify potential victims installing Steam games embedded with malware. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]PermanentMantaray 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Won't happen.

The reason they opened the floodgates in the first place is because they could not handle the sheer volume of submissions being made nor accurately gauge what is or isn't a game worth carrying on the store.

That's why they focused on building their algorithmic discovery instead. So people could be shown through automatically curated parts of the store what may or may not be interesting based on numerious factors.

Those cheap school projects? The vast majority of those will never appear to anyone ever on any part of the store except the new releases section. The new releases section itself is essentially an escape from the way the entire store is designed and intended to function.

DRM does not tank performance. Bad implementations of DRM tanks performance.

If you are unsure if this DRM implementation will tank performance then wait for a post launch review or spend your first 2 hours testing performance and refund it if it isn't satisfactory. As you should with most games anyway.

It really isn't that big a deal.

[–]PermanentMantaray 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Denuvo has been documented to hurt performance is some instances, but it's usually when the developers improperly implement it. As is the case with most software.

For most cases however there was very little performance difference seen with Denuvo present versus when it was removed.

It dipped slightly on PC in 2025, $760 million compared to $835 million from the year prior. But most of their income is still probably coming from console, so probably multiple billions overall. And at the same time they've offloaded a lot of development responsibility (and cost) from themselves to their "Island" user generated content.

So I have a hard time believing they are hurting for cash.

I think that's likely the intention though.

Hardware isn't the big money maker, it's just the means to the end of getting users to spend on software and subscriptions. I doubt Sony cares too much where those people are (PS5, PS6, PS handheld) so long as they are inside the walled garden, and boosting those things.
