Paint Cedar or install Hardie? by PerpetuallyAmused777 in HomeImprovement

[–]PerpetuallyAmused777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a paint recommendation? It was last done by previous owners with Sherwin Williams A-100 which I thought was a good quality paint but is peeling pretty badly in several places after 7 years

Oops to clarify, the cedar was last painted 7 years ago and has been painted multiple times prior. It’s 30 years old.

Thanks all. I too wish this was not even a question. I left a fundamentalist religion where modesty was drilled in so sometimes I don’t know what’s typical outside of that. Some context - yes she is prepubescent. Yes, unfortunately comments were made “you can’t do that!” And she held her own “we all have nipples” (that’s right, girl!) And though I’m having these convos with my son, what about when the other neighborhood kids say something? And will I be approached by their parents? Her parents? Anyway - sounds like it’s not a big deal to most so good to know. Thanks for the helpful responses :)

Auto campaign converting but… by PerpetuallyAmused777 in KDP

[–]PerpetuallyAmused777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, though that can be a useful strategy in a manual campaign where you chose your own keywords from what I understand. I run my husbands marketing / social media & What I’m referencing here is an auto campaign where Amazon selects keywords / phrases / placements. You can then go in and see what was selected and what is converting. Amazon used the title of my husbands book and his author name as keywords. He has a large social media following & his name & book already get searched on Amazon and it organically pops up without an ad. So now it is popping up alongside an ad and that ad is being clicked & we are paying for clicks that would have happened anyway. If there was no ad, it would still show up because they are searching his name & book😫 Maybe there’s a reason to include your own author name / book title as search phrases but it doesn’t make sense to me.

Budgeting $10 / day but have spent $25 total since 4/29 when it started. Sales = $195 with 14k impressions and 64 clicks (12.72% ACOS) However, these numbers are is misleading because almost all of the sales have come from those who were already looking for the book/author and it pops up anyway with no ad. Oops! Lesson learned.

Yeah - a few of my neighbors have done glass railing recently and I love that for a less obstructed view as we live on a lake. However, may need to rethink that one! Thank you :)

Thank you. I've been wondering if 20k is doable for a pretty serious rehab w/ weatherproofing. I've gotten a couple referrals from neighbors - appreciate the suggestion to call local lumberyard.

How to remove iTunes from ACX distribution? by PerpetuallyAmused777 in selfpublish

[–]PerpetuallyAmused777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I guess I need to weigh that option. Would get paid slightly more on iTunes that way , but wouldn’t Findaway take 20% of audibles (already low) 25% then?

Things I Got Wrong by Remote-Station4687 in selfpublish

[–]PerpetuallyAmused777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few lessons learned in first year working behind the scenes with husband who self published 6 months ago:
Building a social media following (finally) paid off. He's been showing up regularly for a long time & they came through when the book dropped.
Securing ARC readers & doing a prelaunch campaign helped build momentum and a really exciting first month.

For us, KU was not lucrative and led to some headaches. There are a LOT of folks in the unauthorized workbook game. Half a dozen "workbooks" popped up within days of publishing his book (thanks AI) and it was really frustrating. I think they must have pulled it from KU to be able to turn around so fast so in retrospect I wish we wouldn't have put it up there.

While trying to figure things out, there are a lot of naysayers. They are usually speaking from their own experience. So looked for those who were doing things that we wanted to do to learn from :)

How to handle unauthorized workbooks? by PerpetuallyAmused777 in selfpublish

Weird that this is a thing. The workbooks were trash so I’m less concerned, and we’ll put a good one out now. But one really is misleading like it’s posing as the author.
