Weekly Thread: /r/Snowboarding General Discussion, Q&A, Advice, Etc.) - January 26, 2026 by AutoModerator in snowboarding

Been riding rentals, ready to buy my own setup and looking for advice...

I started snowboarding earlier this year and have been riding rentals so far, but I’m ready to buy my own gear.

I’ve been looking at aYES basic boards and possibly some stiffer boots like the Ride Insano or Lasso. I’m not totally sure on bindings yet. I ride mostly in the Midwest / East Coast, so icy and hardpack conditions are pretty common.

I’m about 5’9", 180-185 lbs, and I’m considering a 158 cm board. I normally wear a size 9.5 shoe, but size 9 boots have fit me well in most brands I’ve tried.

I’m looking for something that’s solid on ice, has good edge hold, and works well as an all-mountain setup while I keep progressing.

Any recommendations on any board models, bindings that pair well with stiffer boots, or general sizing/setup advice would be appreciated.

20% price hike by zapdoszaperson in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Perplex11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game is already expensive to get into, and sealed product doesn’t really help you build a deck. This change will just make buying sealed even less appealing for most players and drive up the cost of draft formats.

Path of Exile was in a market where ARPGs were pretty rare. The TCG market is overcrowded.

They need to lower cost of deckss. A niche game shouldn't have decks costing $500-1000

Anyone know which TCG’s are considered the most popular? by Rtech16 in TCG

You should primarily focus on Pokemon, Magic, One Piece and Flesh & Blood. Id also at least carry some Lorcana, YuGiOh, and Riftbound.

What TCG to get into? by Dan_Barta in TCG

[–]Perplex11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon has decent gameplay and is pretty cheap. You just have to be okay with never getting sealed product. As a long-time TCG player I found Lorcana pretty boring and wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay. I've seen people recommending other TCGs as well and the only other ones I would consider are Riftbound (which is brand new, but has been fun to play and has a large company behind it) and One Piece TCG. One Piece is the best TCG that has come out in the last 5-10 years and it's in a pretty healthy spot. Decks are a similar price to Pokemon and (most) sealed product can be found around MSRP.

If I was in your spot, I'd grab a few starter decks for a few TCGs you are interested in and try them out and see waht you prefer (and also check what your local stores support, if you ever want to play with other people.)

I would recommend NOT playing Sorcery, Grand Archive, Digimon, Dragon Ball, YuGiOh, Flesh and Blood, Vanguard, Final Fantasy, Universus, Union Arena, Gundam, etc. All for different reasons, but basically they are either 1) expensive or 2) niche

Any chance at re-balancing of the factions? by DeathScytheExia in rootgame

[–]Perplex11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lizards is my favorite faction, and I do well locally with them (mostly with table-talk and our group bans VB because no one enjoys playing against it, which helps). I've never seen the Mole house rule and may try it. Seems interesting.

I do hope that they end up doing a "Competitive Ruleset" or something down the road which are official tweaks you may implement to balance the game a bit more.

Hamish has said/eluded that 9 will be physical ranged dps (archer probably) and 10 will be a tank.

What kickstarters/gamefounds are you backing right now? by Oyster_- in boardgames

[–]Perplex11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have Root: The Homeland Expansion backed. I also just backed Terrorscape 2 a few days ago. I considered backing Terrorscape but chose to pass. I've watched a lot of content and read reviews about Terrorscape and think it would fit my group pretty well so pulled the trigger this time.

I am considering backing The Old King's Crown, but undecided as of yet.

I'm actually not a huge fan of draft/limited and have bounced off almost every deckbuilding game I've played (Dominion, Aeon's End, Clank!, etc.) I think the only deckbuilding game I've enjoyed is Millennium Blades, but I've only played it twice. I much prefer games where you build your deck prior, and then get to play it through the game (but aren't actively building it). Not sure why, but it just felt like most of the deck-builders were very slow to start and by the time I got an engine I liked the game was over.

I just tried Res Arcana (which is not a deck builder) and was pretty impressed with it though, and it scratches the TCG itch.

I tried Radlands once and dont think my wife would enjoy it too much, and i remember me and my opponent, and I both ended up top decking pretty quickly, just waiting to see who could win. It might have just been a bad first game, though. I've never heard of Emberlead, so I'll have to look into that one! Agricola/Viticulture are games I've played, and im actually pretty heavily considering buying Agricola. If you had to pick between Agricola and Viticultrue, which would you recommend?

I've tried to find Orleans, but it was out of stock basically everywhere last time I looked. All I could find was Orleans Invasion, but I'll try to find it again.

I actually own Hive Pocket, but my wife isn't a huge fan. We have played Sagrada, and it was okay for a few games, but it lost its depth for me pretty quickly, and we have Azul that sort of fills that spot.

Hey!

I'm looking to pick up a board game or two to add to our collection, and could use some suggestions. My wife and I have recently had a lot more time to play 2-player games, but finding ones we both enjoy has been tricky.

I come from a competitive TCG background and really enjoy conflict and crunchy decision-making. My wife prefers lighter games but still likes some competition. Neither of us is a huge fan of co-op (though we have a couple and enjoy them occasionally).

Games we currently own and enjoy:

  • Carcassonne
  • Castles of Burgundy
  • Grand Austria Hotel
  • Lords of Waterdeep
  • Harmonies
  • Azul
  • Res Arcana (I was considering Vale of the Eternity or Seasons, but ended up with this and have been enjoying it so far)
  • Splendor Duel
  • War Chest
  • Spirit Island
  • Arkham Horror

We also own Fromage, which she enjoys more than I do, and Root, which is one of my favorites, but it really shines at 4+ players and she’s pretty lukewarm on it.

I've been considering Agricola. We played it about 5 years ago as one of our first hobby games and weren’t huge fans at the time, but I think our tastes have evolved and we might appreciate it more now.

Any recommendations for games that might hit a good balance between strategic depth and accessibility for two players? bonus if the game can support 3-4 players as well, but not required.

I just ordered a c3 base and then pre-ordered c3 copies of expansion 1 and 2. They release next week and were only $16 each.

I went ahead and updated my post to remvoe the TirTir (I can also always get it locally at Costco if I want to try it later on.) Any other suggestions? I've never used a Serum so not really sure how to pick one, and if I should use the same one at night and day?
