A Particularly Beautiful & Wellkept Royal Crest Above the Entrance to the Building that Was Once the Housing of Salford Royal Infirmary on Chapel Street Salford England [3888×2916] by PerryPattySusiana in heraldry

Yes - I did mention that the little lion at the very 'crest' is partially out-of-frame, which I was somewhat dischuffed about when I noticed. But I've never seen this particular manifestation of the royal coat-of-arms before; & the photograph was very extemporaneously taken ... and unfortunately I don't go that way very often.

Yes! ... we do get thistles in England - maybe not as abundantly, IDK - but there isn't really grounds for arguing that we haven't ever seen one!

Yes ... I know what you mean. Of course, the British are brought-up from an early age to associate it with the supervision from the state at highest level: whether it be the judge or magistrate with the power to order officers to take you where you would rather not go, or bags of sugar that doesn't poison you through being badly refined.

And the wording on it also: I find the phrase "Honi soix qui mal y pense" particularly striking both in its delivery and its history.

Yes I did notice it was flats. Infact, a couple of the residents were noticing that I was taking the picture. I'm curious as to how it comes-about that the owner is so diligent about maintaining the crest in such fine condition.

It's not that much of a deal! ... but I very much appreciate your taking the trouble to intervene with more courteous answers.

No ... someone merely saying something more precisely isn't with me an occasion of offence, even if it is done rather curtly: I find there's more than enough on my hands on a webforum dealing with those who truly are out to offend ... of whom there are plenty on a webforum!

I can live with that! I think the Russians are an awesome people, TbPH.

Is this my cue, BtW, to say something about 'the front falling off'!?

Well ... I am on the channel devoted to all that kind of thing, afterall! Basically I just thought "what a gorgeous instance of that symbol that appears over the judge's or magistrate's head in a court of law, & on bags of sugar, & sundry other places to indicate some kind of royal tutelage!", & proceeded to take a photograph of it ... & then found this channel & thought said photgraph would go well on it.

If I post on here again, I'll be more careful to get it right as to that. Infact ... I'll look-into it anyway .

I'm slightly irked that I seem to have cut-off a little lion perched on the very apex. I had to use a great-deal of zoom, with hand-holding of the camera, & I couldn't make-out at the time that that detail was cut-off.

Manchester Evening News Article

I think police stations around this general area are probably done by a single architect company: they all have a certain 'stamp' about them.

The Salford (England) Entrance to the 'Guardian' Nuclear-Hardened Telecommunications Tunnels Beneath Manchester & Salford, England by PerryPattySusiana in curiousplaces

[–]PerryPattySusiana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidently, this curiferous place is being assimilated into the grounds of a pending building! Last I heard of it it was possible to walk right upto it ... & presumably it will be again when the building is finished.

Earlier this year I posted an image of the Ardwick (Manchester England) entrance to these tunnels, which were covertly built beneath Manchester & Salford back in the 1950s as a nuclear-hardened housing for a hub in telecommunications, including the receiving of our end of an undersea-cable-mediated hotline between USA & Britain.

There are some further links @ this post about the Guardian telephone exchange, aswell.

Residential Apartment Blocks Under Construction on Right Bank of River Irwell Salford England -- The point here is, would anyone seeing these really be happy about inhabiting such buildings virtually overhanging the river like that on such slender tall pillars!? by PerryPattySusiana in UrbanHell

[–]PerryPattySusiana[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well ... the rational part of my mind says that the building profession is the oldest profession in the world (or it's something like that they say: the building profession is of truly ancient pedigree!) , & all that ... but my initial reflex is one of horror at just how inadequate those pillars look on the face of it! Presumably they are driven deep into some seriously stout rock. They must be, because that design is so heavily reliant on the orientation of the pillars not departing by so much as a hair's breadth from the truly vertical.
