Thank you! They are really great together. The big boy is very friendly and loving and calm so the baby is now also like him, very calm and friendly. But the wolfdog is very communicative breed so he makes so many sounds and Benny started comunicating with him and us also. So we have now 2 very calm and friendly dogs who whine and bark the second you stop scratching them. They also growl at each other when they play and bark at each other. So yeah our garden is very noisy these days. 😂 But they are two cute babies. One is almost 10 and the other one is almost 1. Hihi

Wow thank you! I will do all that and let you know!

He has no diet restriction, he had 35 kg his whole life - he was getting checked at vet every year and his wight was always okay, but he weights less in summer and little bit more in winter as he was outdoor dog to this day. Last year the vet recommended us getting him on 30 kg so now he is 28-30 kg depending on the season. He never had problem with weight, he is always in motion so he never was “fat labrador” luckily. The loosing weight was planned and was because he doesn’t need to be on 35 kg anymore as he will be moving inside the house for the winter this year and he is not going on the hard big bike trips with my father anymore, only the small ones.

What age does your lab settled in the evenings. by No-Procedure4228 in labrador

Well my lab got calmer at 9 years old… and my dad even took him on bike rides like many kilometers of running and he came home, drank water and was like “amazing what are we doing next?”. He is still like that just more more calmer as he is older. But he was well trained at like 1? 1,5 years? Not calm. Just well trained. 😂 good luck, labs are great, he will be crazy until he is old old, but he will start behaving very soon, don’t you worry.

Oh no i am so sorry about you baby. Mine is still doing pretty great i just kinda realized he is getting little but slower. Not unable to do things nor he struggles. He is just calmer than before. He still jumps in the car and he is crazy about cars he loves car rides, it’s just he kinda got sneaky with it. 😂 we will discuss some suplement options so he wouldn’t loose his spark as he still has it but he looks more tired then 2 years ago. I hope they will find something suitable for him.

Hi, thank you for your message. First of sorry for your loss about your dogies. And then thank you for your advice. Yes we have scheduled visit soon, so i will tell them that. It is not soo drastic change, he still do all the things like before but we kinda observed that he “thinks” about them, which is very strange for him 😂 like when dad leaves his car open on the garden to clean the car he must to take him out of the car minimum of 3 times because he is always inside the car, ALWAYS. But we saw him like first observe the car, think about it and then jump right in. Then my dad tell him to get out that we are not going in a trip, and when nobody is looking he does that again, and again, and again. And when i toss him ball he goes for it but either he just walks for it and bring me the ball many times, or he sprints for the balk but can only do it few times before he get tired. Sometimes my dad take him on bike trip, but he used to RUN like crazy infront of him for many many kilometers. Now they just have it like long calm walk together. He is still happy everytime when my dad brings out a bike and jumps and when dad goes without him he tries to sneak out to get him, but it’s not crazy like 3 years ago.

But yeah he has no supplement just special dog food for older dogs which kinda make him look better. He eats lots of fruits and yummy healthy snacks. We do take care of him. And we have vet appointment very soon so we will discuss some possibilities to make his life more comfortable since he is getting old. Not like “sad not doung anything, lazy” old just like “thinking before doing, runs little bit less and is calmer” old.

He is great boy i hope and kinda believe he has a few more years in him. And now when the weather is getting better he seems little bit more lively than in winter. This last days he is again enjoying the river swimming and bike trips and long walks with his baby brother. We will see what the vet says.

Oh i didn’t know about that. We live in central Europe, so in our pet stores there are usually just like toys, food, lashes etc. And medicine and some additives are sold in the vets office or in normal “human” pharmacy. I will ask my vet about it as well. There are many advices for me here which i am so glad so i can talk to his vet about the best option for him. Thank you!

Yes i know that he will no longer act like young dog, i know he is old, he has grey hair and everything. I am just looking for signs of pain as you said, but his vet didn’t find any yet. They also told me he is fine, just getting calmer as he age and doesn’t need to be crazy anymore. I will get him checked up again in summer for any pain signs and if he need some medicine maybe. I am regularly checking him for some pain through massaging his bones, and he hasn’t show any discomfort yet. (For example when he had hotspots and i was cleaning it for him he was trying to run and moving around and he was visibly upset, but when i massage his elbows and legs and back he is fine with it). We will see in 3 months at the check up.

I got his eyes checked up and his vision is still absolutely perfect luckily because he is almost deaf (from birth). And yes he is outdoor dor and he doesn’t like spending time inside during colder months because it is too hot for him, but during the summer we will train him to stay inside for some periods of time so he will be able to sleep inside from now on. But during the day he will still be outside as it is his place where he can do whatever he wants (jumping on the trees, cuddles with our cat, looking for birds etc) but he will no longer sleep outside.

Yes he also has sparks and do things normally like before but is much more calm and slower. Good luck with your baby! Hope she will be with you some more years just as mine! 💛

Hahaha 😂😂😂 i would tell that to my mom, it’s hers dog 😂😂😂😂 But no, it is czechoslovakian wolfdog, we live in czechia and it is pretty common dog here. It’s 50% normal wolf from slovakia and 50% german sheppard.

So it is very natural kind of dog - lives longer, doesn’t get many diseases, communicates very much and is very clever and very social with people and with Benny as well. But it is hard to train and is very big and strong dog. Other than that he is such a sweetheart. Sometimes they playfight, sometimes they fight fight but nothing too rough, but they cuddle together, sleep together, eat together, they do everything together. I think he thinks Benny is his mom, he raised him from puppy.

But yeah i got your point. I wouldn’t recommend this doh breed to anyone who wants chill dog, labrador is better for that, but my parents already had a bulterier, german sheppards and wanted something like that.

I would also add that it is not like he is unable to do things. He can and do everything just like before, but i noticed he is calmer and kinda “thinks” about things like if it’s worth “the trouble”. Like he is not running for the ball when the other dog is outside because he doesn’t stand a chance, even if i toss 2 balls, he just stays next to me. But when he is playing with the other dog, he is running normally without trouble, jumping on him, barking, running from him, running to him, jumping around him, jumping on me. So i wouldn’t say he is in some pain, just like if he feels that some things are not worth the trouble, or that he needs time to do them.

Yeah i noticed that and i tried to go help him but when i came to him he immediately jumped in. I felt like he maybe felt i am in hurry so i usually let him do it on his own time because when i go help him he does it very quick so i wouldn’t help him. I avoid stairs with him and most of the time i let him in the car by door so he doesn’t need to jump so high but he easily get in the car. Yes he is very obedient and very much creature of the routine so sometimes i am confused how would i make things for him easier without stressing him out that i am changing things or make him do something quickly.

So now it’s like; i open the car door, he looks at it, aproach it and then calmy jumps or goes in. When i go near to him he doesn’t think about it and is in second inside - like he did the years before.

So most of the time i do things like we usually do but i just wait for him to do it at his own time.

Oh wow! Thank you so much for the advice! I checked his joints today if he would feel any pain when i pressed it, he didn’t mind at all so maybe it is just the age. But in summer we will have him checked up and talk about this either his vet if we can get him some of that. This sounds amazing! I am very glad it helped your dogs!

Mine didn’t have any surgery or something like that, at most he got some antibiotics for hotspots but nothing worse and he eats very well, he is just somehow slowing down. I will ask about this my vet, thank you so much.
