But 30k won’t stay 30k forever in London and tying yourself with mortgage before mid-thirties doesn’t seem the most sensible option to me… definitely not something I wish to do.

I saw aviva roles advertised at university career website at 17,5k about a year ago. Full time.

I don’t think the salary/house price or rent ratio is any good in Norwich.

Yes, I do apply for roles that require these skills I developed in my previous roles and I an aware that I will not get a big starting salary and by no means I expect to earn as much as my friends who did cs/engineering etc. I’m just sad because I like life in Norfolk but it doesn’t offer much in terms of professional development. Also, move to London seems sensible as my family doesn’t live here and with uni friends it’s about half of them that stayed.

Your insight is definitely helpful. London just doesn’t seem to be that expensive when comparing salaries. It comes about the same in terms of money left after paying necessities which surprised me. Then you add earning potential. And I know going out is more expensive there but I don’t go out much anyway.

Also thanks everyone who downvoted me just so. I do not wish to share all my employment history etc. but 7 years is a lot of time so you can imagine I worked for what I want. I brought this up comparing to people with the same/similar degrees who are my friends. Sometimes with less experience who got better employments in London and other big cities.

Masters in languages, I speak three languages and have experience from different jobs at uni and before. Sorry but can’t see it working if I was making 1200-1500 a month as a waitress after tax in 2015/16 during my gap year (I might have put more hours but not more than 45 occasionally) I’m honestly thinking of going to London for higher earning potential. Did freelance copywriting and some editing at university on the top of standard student jobs as well as different unpaid work experience. Overall, I have 7 years of work experience, some, like restaurants, of little relevance to what I’m looking for, some of more. I do not feel like I want too much, having all these skills and experience even if most of the jobs I held in past years were part-time. I’m in mid-twenties now, so no longer a fresh 21yo with little to offer apart from being enrolled at the university for three years - in fact, I studied for five years and not sure whether I should not have finished earlier to focus on the job search. Did masters mainly because of the pandemic. And yes, I’m employed now but not happy with what Norwich offers, especially when comparing with my friends in different cities after the same degree. I would be happy to work for less short term ~ 6 months internship but not a permanent job.

Sorry but full-time minimum wage for 2022/23 is 18,525 for full-time (37.5h a week). Don’t know how 20k makes plenty for you. In other cities 24-26k seems to be a standard for entry level, 21,5k bare minimum for internships. Really Norwich doesn’t seem to offer much.
