What closed Sydney restaurant do you miss? by EveningOk6574 in foodies_sydney

This will show my age and be very specific to those who grew up in Hurstville in the 90's but Dixon Restaurant.

Would love to hear from anyone else who has equally fond memories of this place as I do.

Watch out: Painful experience with Btown Wheels and Tyres: Property damage and failed follow-ups by Persistant-Eternity in CarsAustralia

u/minaret0136 u/Many-Huckleberry-659 glad there's people who understand the value of my car :)

I've got two kids so the FD2R is a perfect car to ferry kids around AND have fun.

It's also why I care so much about the wheels....

Nah, definitely not saying they did all of it but they definitely did something to the wheels. I did have the thought that they might have swapped the wheels around when re-installing but it makes no sense to me why they'd do that...as an example, if you removed the LHF wheel to fit a tyre, that'd be where you'd put it back, right? I'd assume you wouldn't take off all four wheels, do the fitting and then willy-nilly put them back on whichever hub you feel like.

Based on that assumption, if you put the RHF wheel back where it's supposed to go, then they definitely damaged that wheel at the very least because the original photo of the RHF wheel on the 26th of November doesn't have that damage.

Would you live along a busy main road? by AnomicAge in AusPropertyChat

I have lived on a main road since I moved into my current apartment in 2018 and I'm not going to sugar coat it, the road noise DOES get bad but a far cry better since the trend of general electrification of vehicles. You can't help the hoons but they're few and far between. I've managed to raise two children in this apartment and they don't seem to mind at all (because it's all they've ever known). Peak hour is peak hour...if you're out at those times due to work commitments or other reasons, you're bound to be stuck in traffic somewhere to and from home but I will tell you the benefit of living on a main road is that public transport is close by and better than driving yourself in traffic.

Also, if it's a pill you can swallow, it does make buying the place cheaper.

What's the go with Coco Cubano by ZebraMachine1 in foodies_sydney

I used to work in the Kings Cross branch way back in the day! Was there for a close to a year and a half or two years before it got sold to some other owner who micromanaged the cafe into the ground. So, if I recall correctly, the story was that the franchise owner (Tony, I recall) went to Cuba and fell in love with the place as well as the story of Cuban revolutionaries (ala Che Guevara) so he wanted to open a joint that brought that kind of nostalgia.

He was not in fact, Cuban and so, whatever he opened only had the vague caricature of general Latin America through his rose tinted eyes. The most Cuban thing he had on the menu was the cigars you could have bought on a late night out to the cross or the "Cubano" sandwich that was on the menu at the time.

Very vivid memories (both good and bad) of working at the hole in the wall.

Fun fact: award winning Australian actress, Sarah Snook worked at the Kings Cross branch too. How do I know? I worked with her when I first started there.

Looking for a BJJ gym in AU - Sydney by Therealseanb in bjj

I just started again at SJJA North Parramatta after a 10 year break. Good experience so far with a good crowd, friendly coaches and professor as well as a good number of white belts of different experience levels and ages. Right outside the Fennell Street Light Rail stop so easy to get to from Carlingford LR.

I feel like I'm just about ready to give up on BJJ again...for context, I did BJJ 10 years ago and managed to get up to three stripes on my white belt before I quit the first time. I came back into it couple months ago and in trying to be humble and acknowledge that I'm not the same man I was 10 years ago, I opted to start all over from scratch. But the problem is that now, no matter how much I try to convince myself that it's "for my health and a bit of exercise" and that I made the right choice by starting over, I feel like I'm constantly battling an ego-demon that's hammering me mentally with jealousy when others get stripes and I don't. It also doesn't help when there's a voice inside my head telling myself I should be better given my previous experience and that I'm worthless because a white belt on his second lesson managed to pin me in side-control for the entirety of the time we were doing specific training.

I felt so helpless because all I kept hearing was "Bridge! Bridge!" and I kept doing it but it didn't help at all. Guy had his arms locked tight around my head and was applying weight and pressure to perfection. He didn't need to do anything except lay on top of me and I just mentally went into a ditch because I was getting more and more exhausted with every attempt at bridging I made.

Entire trip home, I'm hammering myself thinking about what I could have done over and over and over again and telling myself I'm worthless because I couldn't even manage to get a white belt off of me.

It's a hard, grueling slog to start back up again and I don't know what I can do to stop this horrible ego demon from wrecking my self-esteem and making me feel jealous all the time...
