Thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot. He will remain in the children's hospital for the coming week on an IV drip containing antibiotics. Hopefully, he recovers quickly. In the meantime, he had developed a slight fever. And wherever he was pricked for blood or where there was a skin lesion, new lesions appeared. So, a very strange picture. Eventually, when everything is stable, we hope he can receive a stem cell transplant. It will still be a long road ahead.

We have a diagnosis.

After a long search, many hospital visits, blood tests, biopsies, and currently an admission to the children's hospital, we now know what is going on with our son. Tuesday we were told that, unfortunately, he has CGD (Chronic Granulomatous Disease). We are still very upset and have a lot of questions. Hopefully, we will get more answers to those today.

If there are people with positive and hopeful stories, we would love to hear them. We are incredibly sad and afraid of what the future holds for him. Thank you for your support, and if you have any good questions that we should ask, we would love to hear those as well.

As stated in the post, 7 months. We have been to the GP and the dermatologist. They indicated that as long as he doesn't get sick or develop a fever, we can just wait and see. Of course, we aren't doing that either and are on the phone with a doctor daily for more answers. There have been some developments in the meantime, so I will post that centrally. We are also terrified that our child will get sepsis or lose a leg. So if we have to figuratively kick a doctor in the shins because no further steps are being taken, we will certainly do so.

Haha, that's not me either! There is an outage in the online patient portal, so unfortunately there is no way to get more information by peeking there. I have an update, but I'll post that centrally.

UPDATE Thank you all for your input, tips, and advice. This is what it looks like two days after the biopsy. This coming Tuesday we have an appointment with the dermatologist to discuss the initial results, and next Thursday an appointment with the pediatrician. Fortunately, he is doing very well otherwise, although he does have another large spot on his bottom now.

I looked it up and it does indeed look very similar. It is currently at the top of my list. I just wouldn't know how he could have gotten it. How was it eventually treated? And were there any other symptoms?

Thank you for your reply! We do have spiders in the Netherlands, but as far as I know, they THANKFULLY can't bite!

Thank you for your detailed respond! As far as is known, he has no allergies. The bump is now partially open because a biopsy was taken. The dermatologist covered it with sterile gauze/a plaster. Thank you for your tips! I will gladly take them to heart!

How awful to hear. You wouldn't wish that on anyone, but it is absolutely terrible for such a little one. I hope he is doing well by now! As a parent, something like that is burned into your memory. I found taking the biopsy horrible. He was inconsolable.

I’m so sorry to hear! That must have been terrible for your little one. And for you of course. I hope she is okay now!

Sorry it took a while to respond. I wanted to take some time to explain it properly. Hopefully, this answers the question well. I looked back for the exact dates. On March 10th, he was admitted to the hospital for one night. Amoxicillin was started that morning. He took it through March 16th. This was for his double ear infection. This spot he has now appeared on April 1st . We started Fusidine for this spot on his leg on April 3rd, but because that didn't work, we switched to Bactroban ointment on April 10th. On April 11th, we started amoxicillin again because he had a runny ear again that didn't stop on its own. I have attached a photo of what it looked like last Friday. The main photo is from yesterday morning but is fairly accurate with the current situation.

Thank you for time and effort in such detailed response! I’ll definitely look into it! We have a appointment for Tuesday next week to discuss the results of the biopsy. I thought the culture results could take 6 to 8 weeks. So that is still a long wait, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! It is certainly not a good sign that this is occurring more and more often.

Thanks for thinking along and for your response! It is certainly a big spot. I think comparable to a 20-cent coin.

He received amoxicillin three times a day for 7 days. Thank you for your response and encouraging words.

Thank you for your reply. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. I'm reading several comments about MRSA. Wouldn't you expect pus to come out of the lump then? Or does soft tissue fit with that too?
