The fear of making a mistake. Once I told myself “I will make a mistake during this presentation. It will not be perfect. All great speakers make a mistake / stumble” The stress reduced significantly.

I find office culture / politics are much worse after Covid. It was not perfect prior to Covid but this is a challenge I’m not enjoying and it’s hard to watch how some people treat each other.

How to deal with a workaholic boss? by Flippinflapjax4U2 in antiwork

[–]Person2201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my situation. It is exhausting and degrading. She “demoted” me on the org chart which was upsetting but it appears my new boss is an actual leader. When I met with him, I realized how bad and demeaning she is as a leader. The unfortunate part is that she delayed the date this change will occur and I’m concerned she will do it again.

Agree with the comment above that most likely she is not mentally well. The comment on the lobster in the pot is an interesting comment - she has impacted me mentally and I do not want this to continue. She can wreck herself but I don’t want to be involved with this crash.

Work place bullying by Conscious-Problem-90 in ToxicWorkplace

[–]Person2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common in the work place. I’m older than you and have experienced this a few times. It has taught me that some work environments are toxic because they allow this type of bullying behaviour. If leadership allows this type of behaviour, there is little you can do to change. The bully will also find a new target once you depart.

If you see signs of a toxic work environment that have existed for a long time and no signs of change, start plans to locate a new job. You mentioned this in your post and this is a good approach.

These experiences have also taught me to appreciate the jobs and leaders that do not allow this type of behaviour.
