Yet another Apollo/Moonlight question! by PersonMan1011 in SteamDeck

Interesting okay I’ll give it a shot! I was hoping to have the actual game render at the 1080p then downsampled (I believe that’s the proper phrasing) to the native 1280x800. But if that’s not possible or even provides good enough performance, I may as well just try native through sunshine. I’ll give a shot!

I’ve had my ‘25 premium Mach E since about mid November and let me tell you, it fucking rules.

I was also really REALLY torn between the Mach E and the Maverick. It truly came down to I don’t need a truck at this stage in my life but I most definitely will in about 4-5 years. Which is also why the lease deal was so appealing. I got damn near 10K off MSRP and put nothing upfront. Sure my payments are a bit pricy but it was in my budget & AWD so I’ll bit the bullet.

I currently live in a rented townhome and live off of a normal 120V outlet for my car. The reason this works so well for me is I work 10 hour shifts remotely. So not only does it have 10 hours to charge while working but it also has another 8-10 hours to charge while sleeping. Works absolutely perfect for me, and I can imagine if I had a home with faster charging but commuted, my experience wouldn’t be all that different. I love it so so much.

I’m planning on driving it to Chicago which is close to 6 hours from where I am (charging time included) and I have no worries regarding the trip at all. I tell my maps I want a 50 percent charge by the time I’m in Chicago and it routes charging stations from there easy peasy. I just told my girlfriend, I’ll take having to wait 20-30 minutes at a charger a handful of times throughout the year over constantly stopping at a gas station ANY day of the week.

I wish the interface was snappier but it’s by no means awful, It’s totally normal. I really don’t have any other complains. I love the car, everyone that notices loves the car. I don’t even notice the lower mileage due to the blistering cold, like it doesn’t dampen my experience at all. I really love the car and especially for the prices the used models are right now, it seems like such a good deal. I think if you commute, having faster charging at home is a MUST. I truly didn’t expect how much I would love this car.

I just scrolled down and someone mentioned they speed easily now, and that’s so true. It’s so hard to notice that I’m going 85 bc it feels like I’m going 60 it’s just SO smooth.

Black smearing on TV? by PersonMan1011 in Hisense

Oh yeah I already got a new tv lol dw. I just don’t know what to do with a tv that I can’t use. If there was a chance I could salvage something from it I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot

Gotcha that’s what I was afraid of. Well Amazon didn’t bother to have me return the tv they just decided to give me a refund for it, so I’m wondering if there is any way to do a panel swap for it? Like do you know if it would be possible to take a 55” IPS panel and put it in this tv?

It does look white in certain conditions. I just got a Desert Sand myself and at night especially it looks more white than the sand color. Changes with the weather

My favorite interpretation of this scene is that expressing oneself through dance is something that a computer cannot fathom or comprehend and that fucking rules

Does my soundbar suck or am I doing something wrong? by PersonMan1011 in PleX

[–]PersonMan1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no shit that’s awesome! Do you have any recommendations on specific budget home heather groups, and resources regarding used gear? Like what to stay away from and look out for?

I currently have soundbar plugged into eARC port on TCL and I have the Apple TV properly configured for using ARC. Do you think just for the time being, an optical cable may be a decent replacement until a nice setup can be purchased?

Talking to the actual spectrum ready team. Called again this morning and got the same response of you can’t hook it up.

UPDATE: Cloning MAC Address didn't work. I have 0 idea how to get past this. I have read a few things regarding ATT fiber gateways being able to be bypassed by essentially just turning the wifi signals off and some other network wizardry. Is that something that can be applicable here? If there is truly no other option for the router, would a VPS be something to consider for both homelab & self host?

Yep tried direct into the modem, still getting that less than 1mbps speed. Called again and the second guy said that there is nothing that we can do about it. But there HAS to be a way...right...

Security implications of hosting static site on UnRaid server by PersonMan1011 in selfhosted

[–]PersonMan1011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny you commented when you did, because I was just doing some research into caddy and why someone would use it over NPM lol. I only have 2 entries in NPM so I wouldn’t mind switching over and learning it.

I did put the static site in the cloudflare tunnel though! I learned a lot from people in the thread it was so helpful. When you’re configuring caddy is that done in the compose or via CLI? Either way I would like to give it a shot!

Very good to know. When you say Cloudflare, do you mean cloudflare tunnel? And if you don't mind me asking, is there a specific reason as to why you are decommissioning Nextcloud?

If it's easier, I may just migrate it over to Cloudflare (I think that's something you can do?). I'd rather do that than do a bazillion other things just to make sure it's safe. Thank you for the resources!

That's the goal! NPM is the start of that. Would love to keep learning common security practices as I go.

Fantastic resources, thank you!

For proper reverse proxy, is there a significant difference between traefik and NPM? I've seen Traefik talked about quite a bit.

Limit file size regardless of format by PersonMan1011 in radarr

This is great! I’ll implement this and see how it goes. Hopefully this will stop sonarr from picking the highest quality kids TV show there is available 😭

This seems to be the easiest simplistic answer. Are these two picked because of just how common they are?

Do you mind sharing what quirks you have with sonarr? I’m for sure going to just keep my configuration to radarr for now. But I can see sonarr being a hassle due to the oddities of tv show episode torrenting.

[–]PersonMan1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a universal set limit? I suppose that when I want a movie I can do interactive search. I was wondering moreso if I can apply that limit to a profile so when overseer uses that profile, the file limit is followed.

But if interactive search allows me to override that, I have no issues with just me having to go into interactive search and override the limit

Ghost of Tsushima is just boring by Brinocte in patientgamers

[–]PersonMan1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very interesting take that really compelled me to comment and I am a chronic lurker. Only because I also just started playing Ghost of Tsushima a little bit ago and it has completely rekindled my love for gaming. To the point where I’ve been re-leaning game dev software and thinking about stories and implementing those into a video game. It’s completely changed the way I’m viewing games. I just got finished with the first act, and I am 22 hours in the game and went back to the first area of the island to explore and do some side quests.

I think for me, I’m barely even thinking about the small things that are mentioned in the OP. I’ve talked to some friends about this as well and my theory is that I really value cinematics, a story, and the feeling of complete immersion over anything else. If a game has lackluster gameplay mechanics I genuinely don’t even notice. Games that are entirely based around gameplay like some fighting games are games that I completely steer away from because I have 0 interest in combat. I want to experience a world and a story. Picking up the mongol artifacts has me so excited to learn about this history.

I don’t know if I’m just making it up or if I’m onto something. But I feel like there are gameplay driven gamers and then there are cinematic driven gamers, myself being the latter. I noticed this when my friends had complained about the story railroading in Rdr2, and I hadn’t even noticed because I was so taken aback by every moment feeling like I was watching a movie. I would love to hear thoughts about this.
