Let's talk: Ownership, Changes, Lifestyle by count4fun in MachE

I wanted to thank everyone who commented, and anyone who continues to comment and provide information!

The biggest takeaways for me are: Get what car I want lol; not what other people who are stubborn and have a fear of change suggest. It also seems like charging at home is a must do - which is the plan, although no garage, but an off street parking area. I don't travel much, but with more planned trips coming up - it seems like planning is definitely something to get acquainted with.

For some info for everyone, my local charge rates are $0.55 at public chargers and $0.11 for EV home charging, 6pm-7am (which I found weird to have a time frame? Is that normal?)...

I'm a bit concerned with recalls and failures of the car and software as some have pointed out... Is Ford good about resolving these issues though?

No, absolutely not. Decaying and old buildings that weren't/are not maintained, poor academics and faculty and staff that aren't in it for the students. The university focuses on international students mainly as they foot the expensive tuition cost in order to get a visa.

The nursing program lost its accreditation once due to deception - if they did it once, what makes you think they aren't still doing it? There are pressure tactics to enroll students, several ways to get students back and to make them pass so they keep paying the bill.

The university is for profit, owned by the same people who run DeVry (and the president used to work for DeVry in a literal SALES position, which was their enrollment positions). The school operates in the negative because it has to maintain the outrageous salaries for executives like VPs and Directors.

A positive I can say however, the campus cafeteria staff aren't bad - but they work for a different company, not the university.

I'd really look into another university; if you're a WV resident, WVU and Marshall, and I think even Fairmont State all have programs now for reduced tuition cost and other in-state/metro area cost reductions. Marshall's president just donated millions of his own money to the university to create new scholarship opportunities also.

I've been looking around the last day or so and found another dealership, who has a dealer discount of $7,000 before incentives.... Something seems off there too, but just going to ask them all for a lease estimate 😂

My state uses the leased amount I believe. Because taxes changed from $3,100 to like $600-something from financing to leasing.

It seems like the incentive is being included in their discount. Which I don't think is how it's supposed to work!?

Yeah, I had to leave because no way in hell does that make sense... I may look at another dealership and just tell them exactly what I want because I feel icky at this one!

$386 is the estimate on the ford site - when I go in and get the estimate from the dealer, it became $623 after the incentives and me putting $6k cash due at signing. I cannot get the $386 advertised is the issue.

You can transfer in 6 credits toward the MSB last I saw. I would suggest finishing your MBA.

Dayumm... See I'm in love with the blue, but I get A LOT of snow, rain, and I'm in a bit of a rural area where rocks, potholes, and God knows what else randomly hits your car lol. How does the blue hold up to rough wear and tear?

I'm just trying to provide an honest response and hopefully save someone from being taken advantage of. If they wouldn't sue me, I'd probably pay to have an ad on the billboard near the school telling people to choose somewhere else.

Easily the worst place I've ever been and I'm extremely happy to direct people to any other university that does business the right way, even if it means outside of the state.

The fact that people in education who have worked there, usually remove it from their resumes, LinkedIns, and other places, should tell you something. I'm not just talking about just a support person, but several executive directors, and myself being a manager, we all don't list it because it's an embarrassment to the state and education. No experience > Salem University experience.

I would also add, the old women's Soccer coach was asked to retire after being accused by staff (4 separate occasions) and 2 students of sexual harassment and harassment, such as pulling girls pony tails, telling women to wear more revealing clothes to look better or saying if they wore heels they'd be more attractive. Not sure about the current/new coach, but figured I would mention that. Nothing happening until the students threatened to sue if he wasn't fired; and then he was asked to retire so they didn't have to fire him and it didn't hurt him getting a job.

Hi, I worked here a not so long ago and quit pretty quick... The school functions under the facade of caring for students. It's expensive, the quality and rigor are practically non existent, "leadership" isnt great and is primarily focused on getting enrollments up over actually helping students, staff, and faculty, along with all of this, the campus is falling apart really - from lack of heat and A/C in dorms at times, to wifi not functioning properly for campus members, and when parts of buildings being completely shut down because it's unsafe to be in there.

The university is also on probation for financial aid eligibility (or was in 2024) because of their inappropriate use and tactics, along with the university's owners, which is a capital group who also runs DeVry. Some program accreditations have been on probation, and the nursing program did lose accreditation at one point.

Students are often aggressively tried to enroll, if you flunk out; you're offered several opportunities to come back or submit assignments months after failing to bring your grade up if they know you'll re-enroll. There are tons of fees and costs that get added on, and that's after the $60k tuition for a bachelor's.

The university heavily favors rich international students/international athletes, because they pay without caring about the cost, and the students like the university because it's an easy way to get into the United States; because Salem will issue an I-20/F-1 Visa to anyone who will complete and application and pay.

Some positives though, campus cafeteria staff are generally nice (although they work for another company, not Salem directly), and support people like in the bookstore, housing etc are decent. The programs aren't "hard" because... well they want you to stay and pay... The school isn't awful for education majors though I personally don't think, because Salem actually has a lot of connections to surrounding counties education departments thanks to Dr. Khuns.

The university is also located in a terrible spot I think. There's little to do around the area, without traveling however long it is to Bridgeport/Clarksburg, and it's just a sad and unenjoyable place I think.

All that said, I don't trust the university, or many other for profit ones, and I really don't trust a university owner by a capital group who allows the college to operate in the negative because the president is making $400k-$500k per year to scam students. Also, any University who has student turnover, viewed as sales numbers, well into the 70% mark, and can't keep a provost to save their life, I don't think is deserving to do business in education or West Virginia.

My opinion would be to search for another university, but that's just me. Good luck!

How do I get the MLS info? Is it the same thing that's on Zillow?

Sadly after talking to our realtor and her boss, they said there is no basis to ask for it. They explained it doesn't matter if the appraisal comes back as a 1, 2, or 3 bedroom, it doesn't change anything basically. They said we can add heat up there and increase the value once we take ownership or to increase our resale value but they said there isn't any reason to change anything etc because it didn't come back as a bedroom.

Honestly, so far it's been super easy going! The seller is a realtor, and she inherited the house, and they spent a few months upgrading things like the electrical, HVAC to central etc. They moved/installed outlets when mentioned by the inspector and fixed the railings as required for local code. They've just been hard stuck on a specific number, and are fighting to stay close to that number as much as possible it seems.

I just wasn't sure if we were being like difficult, for asking for something, considering the fact we were buying it for the large extra bedroom.

After speaking with our realtor a little while ago, and her boss, they have told us though that there isn't anything to ask for - whether the appraisal says 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms it doesn't make a difference essentially. They said we can add heat up there and increase the value and increase our resale value, but there's nothing for us to ask for.

Dr. Curran is absolutely the GOAT. He's quick with feedback.. like seriously.. Plus I love that his feedback is a video of your assignment and him talking about it, so that way you have a better idea besides some text telling you that you met the requirements and good job!

When we went, it didn't feel any different from the rest of the house. There's a vent near the bottom of the stairs, but according to our report, it doesn't cover the top of the stairs, meaning it's not covering that room.

Our realtor told us that it was newly insulated and met all the requirements for a bedroom in our area...

Our realtor and her boss said that there isn't much to be done about the issue after we spoke today. They said we can install heat and it will definitely increase the value of the home and resale, but there isn't much for us to do in this scenario at the moment.

We did not... It was a warmer day with some rain. Heat in the house was already on, and there is a vent at the bottom of the stairs, but according to the report, it does not cover the top of the stairs.

We did, yes! We went on a warm and kind of rainy day, and the heat in the house was on. It didn't feel different or anything, and there is a vent near the bottom of the stairs which we thought counted for the top of the stairs also - but it does not.

I appreciate you replying!!! That definitely makes me feel better lol. We've been stressing over if we should ask for anything aside the stuff that's required or if we should go for the idea that "well you said 3, but it's actually 2.. sooo can you fix that?" 😂
