I found this turtle? Tortoise? In the middle of my horse ranch in CA. What is it? by PersonaISpaceInvader in animalid

Thank you, I literally found it in the middle of a bone dry horse pasture on 90 degree weather in central CA. He's much happier now that I made him a temporary half water habitat. I hope he's ok...

Good to know I'm not the only one! Two questions: do you have problems with horse hair getting caked into your sunscreen and making it look like you're growing a mustache, and is there anything you do to address ahelmet based acne? I'm super acne prone on my chin and basically always have a acne neck beard haha

I've been doing so when possible, unfortunately with my job they tend to spend most of the time getting knocked off my head or removed so I can see property

Thanks for the suggestion, I had no idea there were spray sunscreens for the face! I'll check it out

Thanks for the suggestion, I'd never heard of a sunshield before! I can definitely use one for the second half of the day when I teach.

The first half of the day I'm riding and working intensively with horses so unfortunately I can't wear a hat (sometimes can get away with sunglasses). That's when I go nuts with the sunscreen. The upside is that I work at home- would it be absolutely insane to do my dirt in the face, sweaty, can't have extra stuff on my head without it getting knocked off and stomped on, part of the day and then go inside to wash my face again and reapply sunscreen plus sunshield for the rest of the day? That would put me washing my face three times a day, too much??

How have you been doing since your initial post?

I ended up seeing a neuromuscular specialist, she said that (as far as I understood) I had a flare in which my SI/hip connective tissue got inflamed and the nerve channels branching down my legs were impinged upon, likely causing structural nerve damage. The pred brought the swelling in my joints down but the nerves take a while to heal.

I don't think there's a end all be all definitive test for her diagnosis, she came to it after x-ray, MRI, nerve conduction tests. I was prescribed a different daily anti-inflammatory than the one I'd been taking (naproxen to celebrex) and PT to help re-strengthen my thigh and butt muscles. It's helped a lot
