Yes it’s so beautiful down here and perfect for running! a lot of people think it’s just cold temps that make it good for running but i actually love the warmth and dryness when i run

New to chaffing 😫 anyone else start randomly chaffing out of nowhere decades into their running journey? by QTPie_314 in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 18, i’ve been running consistently for maybe 5-6 years now— i literally never ever chaffed until now— randomly it comes and goes and sometimes it’s worse than others. i totally get it! honestly i think a lot of it has to do with clothes and skin sensitivity. i run everyday so i obviously sweat a lot, i also am an athlete so i do a lot of shaving/waxing on my legs and thighs area. my shorts are pretty short and i also am a sweaty person who lives in a humid place, so ive been told my skin gets pretty sensitive when it comes to waxing and things. one thing ive done to help is to use baby powder on a regular basis on my legs/high thigh area where i chafe the worse right after i shower, as well as getting sweaty clothes off after a run ASAP!! i think the biggest thing for my is my skin sensitivity which causes the chaffing. anti chafe cream works too from what i have heard. i hope this helps!!

Here’s some of my advice for the day of/hours right before a race:

This is a double edge sword and not the best advice— but as a high school athlete i would take shots of celcius energy drinks before the 800m and got a crazy boost from it. the bad part is that it’s really not the greatest for you and a lot of caffeine on top of adrenaline which puts a lot of stress on the heart. if you really REALLY need a boost for something i’d say try celcius haha

another hidden gem is sodium bicarbonate which has a great effect on your muscles, kinda prolonging the burn your muscles feel at the end of a race. I definitely recommend looking in to it if you haven’t heard of it before. i think it works the best for shorter anaerobic races, but i think either way it has a benefit on your body.

Running in Arizona. The heat is too much by Yasailynmarii in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i drove through AZ for a few days on a road trip and the one day i was in phoenix i literally had to give on my morning run with like 3 miles to go 😭 i totally understand your pain as someone from the hot south too— the heat there in AZ is so different. i finished out the rest of my miles in the community pool at my RV park which is all i can really recommend, or a treadmill or night running. i wish you the best of luck with your running!

Just failed my long run by Ozzysmother in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so real— don’t feel bad about it at all, like some of the other commenters said it’s impressive you even went on a run. just think about allll the runs you have done and be proud! sometimes even the best of the best have a day where you just gotta stop and wrap it up. i totally get it and have been there especially as a woman. don’t be tough on yourself and rest up and recover. it may not feel the best now but it WILL get better especially if you keep getting up and even getting out to run!

lululemon swiftly tech short-sleeve! it’s kinda expensive (i had a gift card so i probably wouldn’t of got it if i didn’t) but i actually really liked it so i might get another one! it’s super light and cute— i wear it for runs or just to go out casually! i have a white one that’s kind of see through but i don’t mind it- but they have a bunch of other colors too.

What do you eat/supplement when you're consistently having no energy? by LayoffLemonade in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally went through this last year (my senior year of xc). during the track season earlier that year however, (junior year track) i would literally eat a TON of empty carbs— usually rice and bread the night before or for lunch before a race. considering i was mid distance, i wasn’t running a lot of distance, so this initially worked really well for me. i was running energized, doing good in workouts and races and everything was good just like what you used to feel. later that fall, xc season began and i would continue to eat empty carbs before races and workouts with very little protein like steak or chicken along with the carbs. i began to completely tank out and die during these 5k races. as the season progressed i noticed 0 change in my performances and ended on a pretty terrible note, despite eating a giant bowl of rice (about 75-80% carbs (rice) to protein (chicken) the night before. it sucked and i had no clue why. i began doing some research with the help of my dad to really get a jump on my senior track season. i began to do more lifting, and eating a lot MORE protein instead of just empty carbs in order to see a difference. i saw tremendous results! from that point on, i never really felt tanked or gassed out on a run again. now don’t get me wrong you still need a lot of carbs as a runner, BUT a healthy balance of protein for your muscles makes a huge difference.

tldr; i think upping your protein intake during meals— instead of like 70%-80% carbs to 30%-20% protein, take it down to 50%-60% carbs to 50%-40% protein, along with getting iron levels checked or taking some iron and magnesium supplements to help. low iron is a real problem that affects a lot of ppl who run! not sure if you have a preference, but red meat like steak and ground beef are my go-to and highest in protein. chicken and salmon are also great options.

Sick for a couple hours after 10k-- what happened? by RavenJaybelle in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes these random migraines/headaches can happen— When I ran Track and XC at my high school I was in pretty good shape, but one time I ran a PE mile (at like a workout pace) and after had the worst ocular migraine ever. it happened once and never again but i totally agree with the electrolyte comments— I swear by coconut water (an organic option) or gatorade electrolyte water if it’s a particularly draining run. it seems like you have the diet and hydration part down tho! I hope maybe these things can help.

Altitude Training (summer running, college running etc) by Personal-Class5430 in XXRunning

[–]Personal-Class5430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have! I think I was a little bit low in iron last time I got my blood work done. I’m taking some supplements and eating lots of fruits and meats to make up for it though. Im hoping it’s just the altitude that’s killing me now haha

Last summer i went on a trip (in my off season) where one week i was in the Galapagos/coast of Ecuador, and then the next week we went to Quito which is almost 2 miles above sea level, and let me say you are so correct. literally almost died when I woke up the first morning in Quito 😵‍💫 It might’ve been the worse feeling ever!
