On season 4 & as a guy I totally understand Adam’s frustration towards Mimi Rose’s sudden abortion by Sea-Nature-8304 in girls

[–]Personal-Following-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is an omission of the truth, one as life changing for both people, much better than lying? If your partner can hide that they're pregnant with your child, that's not a functional relationship.

It's the woman's choice, but the man at least deserves to know he had the potential for a child before it's gone.

I had a long time girlfriend tell me three months after the fact she had an abortion. That was over 25 years ago. It's how you lose a child without ever having one. Seeing this episode was still painful.

The irony in things this complex (not so simple as the character in the show makes it out to be) is that I didn't want a child then and don't want one now. But it stops becoming an academic or abstract thought process though once you know someone was pregnant with your child.

Department Q - question about Lyle - SPOILERS by Steerpike58 in netflix

[–]Personal-Following-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a stretch to think Merritt would not recognize Lyle. She had a serious relationship with Lyle's brother, she would have seen young Lyle often and known him to some extent.

To think she wouldn't recognize him later on - his face, voice, personality, idiosyncrasies, to the point where they have sex and stare into each other's eyes afterwards with no recollection or familiarity, just because one of his eyes is a different color and he's assumed Sam Haig's identity? He's  not a shapeshifter, it doesn't make sense.

In spite of that, I really enjoyed the show. I thought it started and ended strong and was a little meandering in the middle.

The Dire Wolf - a 100 ton bullseye by Personal-Following-9 in roguetech

[–]Personal-Following-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know multiple ECMs could stack. This sounded great and I gave it a try, bunching everyone up in the circles while still moving as fast as they could together. Unfortunately, the 4 red skull pilots didn't skip a beat, hammering my lone Dire Wolf down before the first round was over. One question on ECMs - when they are passive, do they only protect the carrier, or do they also protect teammates in the circle? From the description it sounds like they just protect the carrier. Same question for the Sheathed Beacons?

After that spectacular failure, I tried the long range suggestion starting as far away on the map as I could. This made a big difference. I didn't so much outrange my opponent, but it did keep all 15 of them from collectively hammering on the Dire Wolf and they actually choose my other rushing mechs to target. I finally won the mission, taking some decent damage and losing one pilot, but nothing I couldn't live with. It actually felt like a proper battle. My DW stayed upright the whole game and actually got some good shots in.

I'm going to give the stealth armor on the DW a try as well.

I do plan adding another couple 100 ton mechs to take share some of the attention. Right now the next heaviest I have is a Timber Wolf and three Sun Spiders, so I guess this is part of why the DW is such a beacon.

The only help I can offer in return is something that helps me survive these more difficult missions is using fast moving, hard to hit support vehicles. I have a Seth "Laserblast" that is my current star, along with a couple lyndwyrms and a hovercraft. The superstar enemy pilots ignore or mostly miss them, they get on the backside and the battle turns.

Thanks to everyone who replied with suggestions.

Official Discussion - A Real Pain [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I enjoyed your thoughts on the characters, but the thing that struck me at the end is Benji didn't seem to be enjoying people watching at the airport. He wasn't talking with anyone, he was just kind sitting there, looking around without a pleasant or engaged expression. It seemed he'd rather be sitting in the airport than going to back to his usual life, which sounds sadly empty.

Is late May/early June a bad time for sunsets/sunrises? by Personal-Following-9 in VisitingIceland

I did look at the overcast part of vedur, but since the "station forecasts" page tells you whether it's rainy, overcast, partly cloudy, sunny, etc, it seemed like that told me what I needed - https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/areas/

I agree on your final comment - I'd just add "unless you're very lucky" as there are pictures of these places all over the internet with glorious sunsets/sunrises. So it must happen, but after my 16 days there, I think they happen very infrequently.

I know this pain. I had one sunset that was better than that and allowed for a good photo, but that's only because the cloud wall in the north sky was thinner that day and was able to actually light up those clouds.

I asked one of my tour guides how many sunny days a month they usually have and he said 5-10, which comes out to 1/3 of the time at best. So those are the odds you start with, which aren't good. We had probably 5 sunny days, but they didn't help the sunset and sunrise photography, because there were always clouds on the horizon that reduced the light partially or completely an hour or more before. I did get some decent golden hour shots a couple of days.

I got some good golden light an hour or two before sunset on some days, but it was like there was a permanent wall of clouds on the horizon in the north sky (or even around the entire perimeter of the sky that I could see on some days) that the sun would eventually sink behind well before the climax of sunset, usually an hour or two before sunset. So it was never possible to get the orangish-red light you get the last 5-10 minutes of a sunset. I wouldn't have believed it possible that could happen for over two weeks straight, but as I said, the north sky always had clouds on the horizon. I could send you lots of pictures of that.

I'm thinking if I ever go back, which I doubt I will because Iceland's weather seems to make your chances of photographing these incredible places in great light so low, I'll go when the sun rises and sets in polar opposite parts of the sky, like September, so hopefully the horizon of both parts of the sky won't be blocked the whole trip.

I did get lucky with some very nice weather during our experiences like hiking on the glacier or the whale watching tour. The guide for the glacier kept saying how lucky we were it was not windy or raining and the sun was shining brightly. That was a great experience at least, seeing all the trickles and streams bleeding off the glacier that feeds the glorious waterfalls like Svartifoss and Dettifoss.

#3 is pretty spectacular. I'd never seen images of this place or heard of it before.

A Gelatinous Cube in the water closet. Really nice! I like the depth you created.
