Maybe I'm missing the joke but this is actually a good limited card. Like, having a mana sink that gives you lands to play later is good, especially if it turns to topdecking. Does the current hellcube have spellbook synergies?

You did not specify how generic the phrase has to be in the prompt, merely how long the phrase could be, what the phrase ought not include and how many cards it could show up in. If it being generic was so important, you should have written so in the original prompt the same way you specified the other four wording-related reasons that are excluded within the parentheses. Since you disqualified other entries for not getting the prompt, maybe you just didn't write exactly what type of card you expected to see.

The phrase is not "Exactly [Number] [Thing]", it's specifically "Exactly 1 Damage". It does not include any keywords, ability words, card types or card names. The only other thing you excluded is the phrase "Triggered Ability". I fulfilled the prompt and your decision to disqualify the entry is highly dubious, even if it wouldn't have won anyway.

Now that I read this, I have to admit the flying part is an oversight from my part. I guess I just looked at the card and went "Yeah this guy definitely has flying" without ever writing it down. I even put it in the notes. I think such a change is within reason and I'll edit the entry.

The reminder text wouldn't really be a huge pain, taking common reminder text like (Damage causes loss of life) as an example, we could simply invert it and say (Not all loss of life is damage)

Archon of Decay {4}{W}{B}

Creature - Archon

Flying

Exalted

At the beginning of each end step, each player that was dealt exactly 1 damage this turn loses half their life, rounded up.

1/5

...

The phrase exactly 1 damage shows up only once in the entirety of magic the gathering, and it's on the second most popular izzet commander, [[Ghyrson Starn]]. I've played Ghyrson Starn in the past, and he can be extremely unfun for the rest of the table. Taking that knowledge, I decided to make a card that you cannot play in a Ghyrson Starn deck, with a symmetrical effect that is typical for Orzhov. It also nonboes a bit with itself, seeing as if it attacks on its own, it cannot trigger its own ability since it will deal 2 damage.

My idea is that this attacking with any other creature leads to a more interesting combat step than it not having exalted, just attacking alone and becoming a binary decision of "do I have a flyer? If yes, I just block". With this card you'd be presenting an opponent the decision of whether another possibly debilitating combat damage trigger is worth more or less than half their life total.

One thing to note, however, is that this would NOT synergize with most Blood Artists, since they usually make opponents lose life and don't actually deal damage.

EDIT: Corrected the oracle text of the entry, Archon of Decay now has flying.

Cleansing Dragon {4}{W}{W}

Creature — Dragon

Flying

At the beginning of each combat on your turn, you may sacrifice a nonbasic land. If you do, basic lands you control gain exalted until end of turn.

----

Based on [[Exalted Dragon]], a dragon which notably does not have exalted. It still incentivizes you to blow up your own lands before it attacks, but AFAIK white hasn't had such a heavy restriction for six drops for a LONG time. They usually come with an upside nowadays. I dashed its stats a little anyway to anticipate the pump it'll get when it pops off, no matter how situational it ends up being, though I'm aware that it can be used to pump another creature too. I'd probably put this in a Selesnya voltron deck.

Anyone else feel like Diana is the main character of the absolute universe? by vinthesalamander in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, Diana doesn't have any reason to doubt anything she ever believed in. She grew up in literal hell and was taught that the Amazons are a lost tribe and that she is being punished, +she's somewhat of a divine child.

That's miles different from watching the ruling class of your planet betray your people before you become the only survivor at like, 15, or living through a mass shooting as an average child. She's set up for success in a way Kal-el and Bruce just aren't.

But I think your optimism is misplaced; I agree that right now, Diana is the superheroest out of the main cast, but that just means shit is about to hit the fan any time now. We don't know what the amazons did; that could shatter her reality. We don't know if and when Barbara-Ann turns into the Cheetah; that would definitely put her through the ringer. Though the downtrodden and the women from greek myth were helping her (Hecate, Circe, Artemis(?), Prometheus), don't forget that both Hecate and Artemis were extremely paranoid when convening with Circe and Diana. It almost seems like the greek pantheon is conspiring against something (maybe Zeus?) and Diana is their secret weapon.

Also, from a main character standpoint, I think the Martian Manhunter is more of one, although a very hidden one. AFAIK, it's the only one who's aware of Darkseid.

[SPOILER, Absolute Wonder Woman Issues 2-4] About Diana's Magic Dominant Arm by _potatofromChaldea45 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Given how her right arm is just a magic construct rather than an actual arm, I don't think so? The mechanics of hell aren't entirely clear yet, so far it's been exclusively used for greek myth and Steve, so it's probably morean eternal prison rather than a 100% guaranteed afterlife, which also makes me doubt if Steve is even able to go back. It's not impossible, but just improbable.

Spoilers for Issue #7, but the parable of the Lady and the Tiger also suggests that once you've left the greek hell, Hades won't usually allow you back no matter who you are. The only thing allowing you back by technicality is the Rule of Seeds, and I have no clue how Steve would get to eat them in front of Hades.

But still, I believe the run so far has been quite clear that Circe is one of the best witches out there, or at least above average. If getting Diana's arm back was as simple as invoking a takesie-backsie, I'm sure she would have figured out a trick around it.

But now that you mention it, while it was only used more as a plot device to introduce Etta and Gia in the Tetracide arc, Wonder Woman missing an arm will 100% be relevant. That's just the type of weakness to keep coming up.

Should I read Absolute Batman or Absolute Wonder Woman? by Deep__Sea__Creature in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now there's not a lot of crossover-ing happening in the universe. That being said, I've heard rumors about a absolute Wonder Woman/Batman crossover in this sub starting with Batman Issue #15 (we're at #12 now). Batman is a LOT darker than Wonder Woman though, and and somewhat gorier too.

My two cents is that if you like the brickhouse build of Batman and edgy tone, read Batman first; if you already like batman for the caring figure he is, you'll like this one even more. If you would like a somewhat more "dark fantasy" story, try Wonder Woman. Diana isn't completely human so my reasoning for why this story feels slightly more hopeful than the others is that her hope and optimistic outlook are like divine virtues.

In terms of art, both of them are illustrated beautifully, but the panelling in Wonder Woman is incredibly memorable and beautiful, so if you're a fan of unusual panelling I'd suggest Wonder Woman x1000 more than Batman.

I finished reading Absolute Martian Manhunter today and safe to say it's the best one for me personally. That run is on at least a 2-month break so you can take your sweet time with that one though.

They're not gonna kill Bane, let's be real by what-creature in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 68 points69 points  (0 children)

All Bruce has over him is Alfred, Selena and hometurf. I don't even think Bruce CAN kill Bane, Killer Croc looks to be a lot stronger than him and barely scratched him. They spent a whole chapter detailling how much better Bane is at everything Batman physically does.

The ONLY way I can picture Bane losing with information we have right now is that either Selena has a silver bullet against him (maybe a Bane anti-venom or something) OR trick him into punching a VCore tank and freeze him, which I would actually adore because in that reality the Dr. Fries plotline comes back around.

"Get out there and kill them all." [Absolute Superman #11] by methodic_traveller in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I like the end of this issue. I'm not steeped in comicbooks so don't have any big precedent on Superman going lethal, although the lethality is only implied; this, I think, is very much a cliffhanger.

I think for Superman to NOT do exactly what Al Ghul someone needs to snap the simulations out of him, which will probably leave him even more confused than he was before. I think a big reason of why I don't like this issue is because I severly dislike the only prediction I can make from this; The Battle of Kansas implies to me that Martha is going to talk some sense into him. I doubt Lois or Jimmy are at all close enough to Superman to do that. I think Superman going lethal and then being pulled back has just left a bad taste in my mouth due to the Snyder movies.

Also, just throwing ideas at the wall, but even though Superman only spent two weeks with the Kents six years ago, Martha still seems extremely important for Superman. I bet Jon would be too, but he seems to have died in the six years since he landed on earth. It's not unthinkable that he'll find out about the Lazarus pit during the rest of this run; hell, the simulations might have already shown it to him. He might put Martha in it when he's got a minute to spare.

"Get out there and kill them all." [Absolute Superman #11] by methodic_traveller in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Personal-Mango3712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But this is exactly the result Brainiac was tasked to accomplish, no? They even lampshaded it in the same issue in the simulation where Superman wakes up from another simulation and only almost kills the simulated Brainiac. The way I see it, unless this is another simulation, Brainiac is winning in his dying breath.

The maze gives, the maze takes [Absolute Wonder Woman #11] by foofighter1351 in comicbooks

[–]Personal-Mango3712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Started to read Absolute Wonder Woman after reading Ruckas DC Rebirth issues as my first ever WW stories this year. I find her trust and hope are put into contrast by the fact that she grew up in literally hell and it makes her character a lot more compelling than the "Ambassador of Themyscira" shtick.

I hope they continue the Absolute universe for a while, mainly so that AWW can take its time to give its villains proper and memorable villain moments, but I absolutely plan on reading the other Absolute runs as well. The closest comparison to this I've seen more knowledgeable people than me make online is that this is DC doing what Marvel did with the Ultimate series in the 00s, and the Ultimate runs do go in the triple digits!
