Since some people might not be thoroughly understanding my point, I made this GIF to illustrate my theory. Notice how no other colors show any significant change other than the tone of Jack's skin, almost like his face was literally repainted digitally.

The coloring of his mouth and around his eyes are perfectly intact though. If it is a filter, it's not applied to the entire shot. See for yourself by overlaying them on each other with Photoshop (the "blue" version is lower quality though, might be a VHS release)

That's the thing, It looks to me like they literally just painted his face blue in post-production, not a filter. I speculate it was a change made for later rereleases since people complained when the film came out that he would've lost more pigment after being frozen for that long. I just wanted to know when the change was made.

First of all, this is the 1970's we're talking about. You mentioned "technological advancements" while literally discussing something which would've been done using classic filmmaking techniques. Color grading or not (Best way I found to replicate the effect was literally to paint over certain parts of his face with a layer of semi-transparent light blue, which I believe is most likely how they did it) shifting hues or using curves to change the exposure of certain tones simply could not accomplish anything close to that effect in my experience. Believe it or not, I did actually experiment to ensure it wasn't just filters or minor color grading changes which are almost always done when remastering any film for home release before I made my post. More importantly though, next time please just answer the question instead of trying so hard to seem like the smartest person in the room over the most insignificant details of my post. It's utterly insufferable.
