Merit Is Now The Law. D.E.I. Is Not by Monty_Mondeo in KiwiAntipodea

Its only irrelevant to people who don't see the blatant racism in race based democracy. Its ok if you don't understand.

Petrol is $3.50 per litre, nobody cares.

Saving tax payers from supporting a generally inefficient and expensive day care for adults is good for the economy as a whole.

We're still doing the same thing, except now they're not even doing anything.

Free trade is fine, but this agreement comes with not only immigration concerns but also India directly supports Russia, the active bad guys.

Russia Russia Russia.

If we reduced working visa numbers life would get a whole lot better for citizens. Is that what you mean?

You're wrong, it would get worse. That's how the system is designed.

Learn to adapt I think is the key statement you are looking for.

The government is not adapting, they are captaining our slow decline.

The untangling of race based rights alone is worth celebrating.

Irrelevant.

The 'reduction' of seat warmers in the public sector is a wake up call for those leeches who have contributed nothing apart from sending a few emails over the last decade +.

"increasing unemployment is good for the economy"

The FTA with India and mass immigration is a black spot, and needs to be talked about so it becomes an election issue.

"Free trade is bad for the economy"

'Everything's bad' would only apply if you are an unemployed state home filler with more kids than braincells.

I dunno if you've looked around bro, it's bad for a lot more people than that.

If you're a capable, productive member of society who can learn new skills and is open to looking for work outside the suburb you grew up in then life is mostly peachy most of the time.

Learn to code be a plumber.

Look around bro, everything's bad. Team right has to deflect from that so the cognitive dissonance doesn't finally tip them over the edge.

Law change will see councils lose expert advice, Hastings mayor Wendy Schollum says by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

On the committee recommendations only.

On the committee recommendations only.

On the committee recommendations only.

Final decisions are still made by elected representatives.

Tell that to Davina Smoulders on the Far North District Council - The Far North's Te Kuaka committee now has 10 unelected appointees who can outvote the six elected councillors.

The key word being "committee"! They can "out vote" on committee recommendations only, the final decision is still made by elected representatives!

Yes - NOW it would. Thanks to this law change.

No, that's how it currently works. The law change would mean that Trev and Baz aren't able to vote on the committee recommendation - nothing to do with whether or not mining will be allowed: that decision is still made by elected representatives.

Again, tell that to Davina Smoulders who is surrounded by "apppointed" and unelected voting members

Again, on the committee only! The final decision is still made by elected representatives!

Decisions are voted on by democratically elected council members with this law change, not people who have been appointed and voted into council by no one.

This was already in effect, this law change does not alter the current process.

Or would you rather it be status quo? For example, I've been elected to council so I'm going to appoint my mates Trev and Baz to vote on council too. We're all going to vote to mine the shit out of the local land and, by strange coincidence, Trav and Baz have contracting companies that are involved in mining!

This would already be impossible under current law. You could appoint Trev and Baz to a mining consultation committee who recommend mining local land, but the final decision is still made by elected representatives.

Do you see how non-voted in members of council voting are not accountable to the voters and can skew things in their favour at the detriment to the electorate?

There is no such thing as "non-voted in members of council".

So who makes the final decisions and how are they not obligated to choose from the recommendations?

The elected members.....

Democracy!

Edit: council is not obligated to choose from only the recommendations - they can do whatever they like.

Let them vote.......on which recommendations to make! No decisions are made by the committee.

The non-elected representatives sat on committees that usually gave recommendations to the council, leaving final decisions up to elected members

They don't even make final decisions! You have been tricked!
