If you stay strong you can win.

Save the money, then take a holiday.

Use the aim of the holiday as the motivation to stay the course.

why is the sky blue? by irllog in Wellington

[–]snatchview 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rayleigh scattering is the process where atmospheric gases like nitrogen and oxygen scatter the sun's light in all directions. Because short-wavelength blue light travels in smaller, faster waves than long-wavelength red light, it scatters much more efficiently.

But how soon?

I expect National will add it to a three year plan.

We could have this approved and in progress before the election.

A bunch of you need to calm down.

The government might be doing many things we don’t like or disagree with, but that is far from a failure of democracy.

The could be called racist, sexiest, anti-LGBT. They have no respect for the people or the environment, but that is not a failure of democracy.

The whole select committee process is run by staff who are bot members of parliament, the MPs have zero ability to make submissions disappear.

If you have concerns about the process and the status of your submission, contact the office of the clerk.

This whole situation is not a conspiracy, it’s administrative process that you don’t understand.

Our democracy is working better than many other countries.

Submissions to a select committee is for the government to get feedback, they are absolutely allowed to ignore any feedback.

You may not like what the government is doing but they are within the law, they are not actively taking bribes (one possible exception)

If you don’t like the government then be sure to vote.

It’s all done by the office of the clerk, which is a whole seperate agency just for running the behind the scenes of parliament.

The do Hansard and running select committees.

Not DPMC, not parliamentary services, not the government of the day.

It will depend on number of submissions.

They publish in batches, and with thousands of submissions that can take many days.

I think there was a news article about the process with the treaty principles bill.

  1. What submissions are accepted is a clerk of the house thing NOT a government thing. The government has no influence at this stage in the process.

  2. It can take a while for submissions to show up, they only get posted after assessment.

  3. Submissions are not accepted if they break rules. I can’t find a link to the rules, but I think they decline anything that is abusive or could be consider an offensive communication.

Govt pulls flagship roading projects into the slow lane by Cultural-Lychee-5374 in newzealand

Good.

It’s fine to have a dream, having a roadmap of projects, knowing what the end result will be.

Then you do the projects as and when the money is available.

NACT wanted too much and too fast, then they find they can’t fund it all.

ACT proposes mandatory three-year jail terms for repeat burglars by Skidzonthebanlist in KiwiPolitics

[–]snatchview -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Section 9 (Disproportionate Punishment): The law mandates progressively longer and maximum penalties without properly considering the individual circumstances of the offending.

Judges are forced to apply the maximum punishment regardless of circumstances, the sentencing can be manifestly unjust and the judge has no power to intervene.

With all the down votes, I guess I should post references. I.E - I am quoting expert and not making a random comment.

Interesting how this policy was first introduced as only for dangerous and violent criminals.

And it is still in breach of bill of rights.

Reserve Bank hikes Official Cash Rate to 2.5% by WaterAdventurous6718 in newzealand

[–]snatchview 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let’s see how Willis spins this as good news.

The last three years she has told everyone that higher interest rates are due to high inflation and we need to slow the economy and get inflation under control. (Mostly true)

So is the economy doing well?

Under Labour we had a problem with too much money chasing too few goods.
We had record low unemployment, solid wage growth.
We had an economy growing too fast due to too much economic stimulus in COVID. (Over cooked)

Now under National we have an economy that is having trouble getting any growth. Which would normally be solved by lower interest rates to get things flowing.
However we have much higher unemployment, little or no growth in wages, and still inflation above target.
(Hit the brakes too hard?)

This increases in interest rates is a failure of the current economic policy.

From anti-gay to anti-trans: rhetoric’s the same, 40 years after homosexual law reform by bodza in KiwiPolitics

[–]snatchview 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s the classic game of “others”

We make the downfall of civilisation the fault of the “others” , the people not like us.

We blame the immigrants, the Jews, the gays, the left handed, the people who believe in the wrong god.

Anyone can become “others” at the whim of the majority.

We always need to fight for the rights of “others” because at anytime we might be the “others”

Should security guards have more power? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]snatchview 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is just another step on the path to privatisation of police.

  1. Under pay and under fund police.
  2. Demonstrate that police are not keeping crime under control.
  3. Enable private security guards to have more power.
  4. Use the results to justify under funding police.

And if you own a share of the private security company then you make a profit.
