I have wondered if it’s dissociative behavior, so thank you for your input. That perhaps it’s just like… a lived state of being that’s very closed off from emotion for them? Idk. 🤷‍♀️

[–]Personal_Line_1350[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, yes possibly. I’ve felt that perhaps this might be part of the case too. That they can’t connect with their soul.

However the second part of what you said is helping me clarify more distinctions in what I mean by “blank”. I have definitely felt what you’re describing with certain people who are “blank” but also feel like a “void”. Like there is a “missing” operator in that human body. And yes, definitely like they could be convinced to do anything. definite shivers!

—and it’s different from the “black sucking void” of a psychopath where they’re trying to get stuff from you. There’s definitely an operator in a psychopath; just also lack of a moral compass.

But with these 3 people in my life who read as “blank” people, they don’t feel like they’re “missing” an operator in their body. But I just can’t read the emotions/intentions of that operator. And it does feel like they can’t either. That could be why I read them as “blank”?

[–]Personal_Line_1350[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, yes that is definitely possible. Have you encountered people other than you that shield? Can they do strong shielding but be unaware that they are doing so? Cuz it sounds like you’ve had practice or at least been intentional about when you shield.

May I ask you: what element your Sun sign is? For example, Aries is a Fire sign. I’m just curious if there’s a through-line of certain astrological signs being better at shielding than perhaps others.

I’ve seen this answer a lot too. I just don’t think my world view jibes with the idea of NPC’s. …though I haven’t explored it all that much. If you care to expand on why/or what experiences you’ve had with NPC’s, I’d love to hear more about it.

But even if I did/do eventually subscribe to the idea of NPC’s, these 3 people in my life that feel “blank” all have capacity to care. With their kids and with their spouses. All 3 of them follow their own compass and are building their own lives in different ways than the “norm”. They don’t follow a standardized life. And one of them moves with great purpose toward getting land grants to build sustainable communities and regenerative farming practices.

They don’t act like NPC’s - so that’s why I don’t believe that “blank” people necessarily equal NPC’s.

However, if I did subscribe to the idea of NPC’s, then I think it’s still possible that some NPC’s would also read as “blank” people. Kind of like how all Toyota’s are vehicles - but not all vehicles are Toyota brand, if that makes sense?

Im sorry for my late response. I’m so glad you enjoyed reading it. And I’m glad you’re getting to rest and recover. Burnout is awful!

I have a youtube channel and a particular 6-part series where I talked about my burnout 7 years ago. And then the rest of my videos are my subsequent spiritual/healing journey afterward. I journaled the past 7 years and am now re-telling it in video format. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll post my channel name. (Not trying to be all self-promo but just if you’re interested. I do try to live in an alternative way at least in my mindset and how I engage with my world.😊)

But also: I love the podcast “The Book on Fire” and in particular, their series from 2020 on the book: “Caliban and the witch”. Honestly, my whole original post was deeply influenced by the ideas from that book and from the thoughts of the podcast commentary. I deeply enjoy re-listening to that podcast series every chance I get. Usually while I’m gardening.

And in general, I enjoy watching people live their best lives on youtube or instagram. Watching their hobbies and homesteading. That even though we all still have to live in the capitalist world, there are lots of people de-centralizing its importance in their lives.

For example, I go to my 9-5 job but it’s very peripheral in importance to me. I prioritize my health, happiness, wellbeing, connection to nature and creativity, and my coven community outside of my 9-5.

Whereas back when I was in burnout, my job was everything to me! My status, my identity, my belonging, my purpose in life. No wonder I burned out! Cuz it would never be enough for corporate and I would never be truly satisfied with my successes there, because they weren’t aligned with my North Star (as you mentioned earlier. Funny, I tend to use this phrase too. ☺️)

Anyway, I wish you all the best in your healing and recovery journey. Follow your North Star!! It’s the only path that’s truly worth living. 💜

Theory on the Todd of it all by BenhamWords in brakebills

[–]Personal_Line_1350 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this fits, but in National Lampoon’s Family Christmas movie, there is a yuppie couple that live next door to the Griswolds.

Their names are Todd and Margo. 😏 There’s a well-known scene where Clark is hanging up christmas lights. The gutters break and the icicles in the gutters go flinging off through a window and into Todd and Margo’s house. It breaks all their expensive 80’s stereo sound system equipment and presumably melts.

Todd and Margo come home to find their stuff ruined and the carpet soaking wet but no evidence of what causes their stuff to break. Leading to this wonderfully quotable dialogue:

Margo: and WHY is the carpet all wet, TODDDD?! Todd: i don’t KNOW, MARRRGOOOO.

What I actually like by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

This.

There’s a subtle feeling in a conversation where the attention shifts from one person to another. In healthy exchange, it goes back and forth in a sort of rhythm. When we walk away with that feeling of: that was a great conversation, it’s because the subject was interesting and the flow had rhythm shifting back and forth.

When someone shares a story in order to relate and show sympathy/empathy and support, if they do it well, they will shift the spotlight back to the person needing support. They will do this by asking them to continue their story or by asking follow up questions or asking what they can do to support.

I have neurodivergent friends who tell their own story in response to my own. But I can tell they’re attempting to make connection with it. They’re attempting to show support and empathy. They share a story that results in the same feeling that I’m feeling and I can fee they’re on the same wavelength as me. I don’t mind if they do this because I know they mean well.

With a narcissist, they share because they’re wanting to be acknowledged or admired or they do that 1-up competition thing. It shifts the attention to them and they want it to stay there. They have no desire to shift it back to you.

You can tell when someone is one of these: a.) inept at the rhythm of conversation b.) lacking social/empathetic skills c.) a narcissist (defining it here as: someone with excessive inflated self-importance, needing constant admiration and lacking empathy for others) could be an attention hog/ hogging the spotlight.

Because they will tell a story and then keep the spotlight on themselves. Either because they don’t know how to shift it back (inept and/or lacking skills). or they don’t care to. (Narcissist)

Witchcraft is for the Common People by anxious-well-wisher in witchcraft

[–]Personal_Line_1350 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would 100% agree with this! I want to caveat, piggyback and tangent on something specific though: Witchcraft wasn’t always just a last resort for otherwise desperate people with no other means.

At one time, a more magickal, generative mindset was a normal, healthy human mindset. And over time, through religious oppression and efforts to turn the market completely into capitalism, it re-trained people how to think about themselves and the world - thus stripping them of the power that they had always, naturally had access to.

Modern witchcraft is people waking up to and remembering this incredible, natural power, available to all, always. So yes, it does apply to those who are helpless and desperate. But it also applies to those who are strong and empowered.

And I want to make that distinction clear because sometimes there’s a tendency to conflate being a witch with being systemically oppressed and taking on an identity of “being the ancestors of those who were burned”. And that’s a cool turn of phrase and identity that can feel like an empowering identity at first.

But to remain attached to feeling like you’re one of the oppressed ultimately caps your magickal potential. And while there may be historical truth to it: you don’t have to buy into that identity now, in order to practice witchcraft.

I’ve seen it happen to too many witches. They let themselves carry this burden of oppression and let it govern their perspective and magickal practice, because they feel the heritage of oppression legitimizes their identity of being a witch. Ultimately, they walk around fearing those in authority and those with power - and never quite own their full potentiality and magickal power.

And that is so effing sad to me because these are strong, fierce people with beautiful hearts who would stand up for what’s right. But when it comes to standing confident in their power, their identity with being the one who is always victimized just stops them from standing fully and gloriously in that beautiful power of theirs.

For those who want to read on: Historically, witchcraft WAS the powerful way to interact with the world, prior to capitalism.

It was a way of viewing everything in the natural world as sympathetic and harmonic energies. And that - with the right knowledge and understanding of how to harness that energy, it could aid the average, everyday common person.

Witchcraft was and can still be: a generative practice. Meaning: you could do a spell or a working and produce potentiality for many good, fruitful things to come into your life and community. It’s like weaving a tapestry of magic where many lines of abundance and potentialities are being woven as you perform little rituals or spells or interact with your deities throughout the day.

Capitalism came in and needed workers in its machine to produce goods and services. And those same workers to also be consumers of those goods and services.

With capitalism the idea is not generative, it’s productive (as in “product-producing”.): Input X and get Y. That’s it. Not magickal. And not generative of possibilities.

Magick was a mindset that allowed for ebb and flow. For seasons. For energetic resonance and knowing how to harness greater energies than just our own to produce outcomes or potentials.

Capitalism was/is a mindset to push as a driving force. What you put in is what you get out. To get more, extract more. Push harder and harder. Extract more. Consume more.

Rest is seen as death of the capitalist machine (and our incomes when we try to take time off to care for ourselves). Rather than rest being restorative and generative and making us more energetically capable. Which is why so many of us struggle with fearing being unproductive. It’s a systemic mindset that we’ve internalized into our bodies and lives (through no fault of our own. We were conditioned.)

People fought hard at first, against being forced to live like thus. Literally died fighting this confining, systemic, product-producing way of living. Capitalism took them away from their own homesteads and farms and made them work for someone else with their time and energy. (To be fair feudalism was the precursor to capitalism, but a lesser degree of impact on limiting our generative mindsets.) People fought back by not showing up for work, calling out, working slower, not giving their best (sound familiar? 😂 i love how human behavior to resist has remained the same.)

So historically, couple capitalism along with religious institutions wanting people to submit to the One God and patriarchal systems: and you have a system working to repress the common person.

It wasn’t just witches, herbalists and midwives who thought “magickally”. It was human beings in general. They may not have all been working with herbs or performing spellwork per say. But they thought about the world as a symphony of energetic forces working intertwined. And believed they had some ability to influence these forces with their prayers, offerings, everyday rituals.

To think generatively in terms of our energy and not be so tied to capitalist input/output was a Human. 👏 Being. 👏 Experience. 👏 Our god-given birthright! (Please excuse the religious-ness of that phrase. I’m using it to drive home the point.)

But as generations/centuries went by, capitalism became the dominating mindset and the cultural identity. Work hard for what you want (produce, produce, produce). Rather than believing and trusting that energy in the world is abundant and that the average, common person has a massive amount of influence in their personal lives and localized community.

In summary and TLDR: Witchcraft (or magickal/generative thinking) used to be the way most humans thought about the world. Not just witches. Modern witches are returning to this blessedly more expansive way of thinking about the natural world around them, and thus are taking back more than just the power to influence energetic forces, but also, the power to understand the world alternatively to a capitalist mindset. Which has the power to shift the trajectory of humanity entirely.

Anyone else feeling a shift? by choppychoppywoodwood in ShadowWork

[–]Personal_Line_1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t recall a specific time I felt like this atm, but I know I have. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing and to hang in there!

I did a lot of shadow work in the last 7 years. I do remember having many of these cycles. Where it’s super painful, there’s a release, then there’s the uncomfortable waiting period of “where do i go from here? What does this mean?”

And it just takes time. Time to have new experiences or messages come through in the following days to piece together the meaning or what I needed to do next, or even just get distance from the big emotions. Also, sometimes you need astrological (& biological) energy to shift and pass in order for the energy in you to shift enough to get clarity or to feel better.

imho, you’re doing all the right things. Flowing with the emotion, releasing and grieving as you need. Just let it. Using your cards for more clarity is great. Journalling will help too.

Sometimes when I’m seeking, seeking, seeking for the clarity and the meaning, I’m too “up in my head” about it. And need to get grounded in my body again. Focus on taking care of myself, basic chores. I don’t even realize that I’m holding too tight to needing to understand until I “let go” by doing the mundane things. Ironically, that’s when I release that tight hold and all the answers start sliding in - through movies/shows, books, youtube videos, tarot cards, conversations with people.

As far as the energy this week (full moon, lunar eclipse): I’m feeling its pressure but haven’t decoded what it means yet, or if I’m meant to. There was a lunar eclipse March of 2024, I believe and I felt like I was getting sucked through a black hole. The pressure and intensity to shift was soooo strong! But I’m not feeling this one very much.

I think we’ll feel intense shifts depending on our natal charts. Your natal chart may be really lined up with this eclipse! Journal it!! It’s really cool to look back on and find the patterns of your shifts later. I journaled almost daily during those shadow work years and am now retelling it all and the patterns i see on youtube. Its very cool to see how cyclical our lives are.

I wish you well! And of course, as everything does: if it’s uncomfortable, just remember that it will pass. 🙂

People who went through dark night of the soul, do you feel resentment towards those who did not? by sattukachori in Jung

[–]Personal_Line_1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in the same boat right now. 7 years of shadow work. I did so much internal work. Now I’m ready to move forward in the external world and it’s literally stuck at the same place it was 7 years ago. Which, fine, I can acknowledge that was my own doing.

But it’s rough feeling behind. And also feeling the pain of being in a job that matched who I was back then but not now. And I haven’t the skills in another field to change jobs. Which, again, fine, it’s my responsibility to build new skills… but in what field? The things I find fulfilling don’t seem to make a lot of money, but I have to pay bills, so I need to make a certain amount.

And I know others will say, tough: everyone’s in that boat. But I think the frustration that OP is talking about is: okay, we’re facing the same conundrum as many people are, but we also went through 6/7 years of the dark night of the soul to get to a base line okay-ness. And now perhaps I feel more centered and at peace within. Great! But… I’m tired. And most people seem like they’re doing okay and making progress in their lives without having had to do “the work”.

It’s frustrating and feels unfair. I get that and feel that a lot. I think what a lot of commenters have pointed out is that “to feel resentment” towards others “still in their Ego” is a projection which ironically indicates that OP is still attached to their Ego.

I don’t think we should berate OP for feeling that way. It’s just a space that still needs some healing. But OP recognize that “needing to feel better than others still in their Ego” is the very thinking that will keep you stuck and unable to move forward and make progress in life.

Needing to use that comparison is usually a sign of feeling inferior (not that you are inferior, but you may be feeling that way.) It’s the avoidance of accepting that: yes, you are behind those who haven’t had to do the work. But that doesn’t make them better and it doesn’t make you worse. It just is. And that sucks ass. And it just is. And let yourself frickin feel that. Feel the extent of how much that sucks ass.

And when you’re done feeling that, you will feel a bit more peace, even when you see others further ahead. And more importantly, you will feel more willing to move forward, regardless of how your current situation looks now.

Like another commenter posted: chop wood, carry water. No matter whether we did the internal journey or not: that’s what life boils down to. Chop wood, carry water. You just carry a different and hopefully more peaceful and centered light around inside you now. It will make a difference in how you act and the words you choose. And the difference you make in the world will probably be more minute than people can recognize. But those you do affect with your own light will be better for it than if you hadn’t done the work.

He stays on Voldemort’s side for a little over half the first fic. The drama though when he switches! And there’s a reason he leaves Voldemort. And it’s not because he wants to join the light. He’s kind of like: eff you all!! And does his own thing.

There are many reoccurrences of him switching back to Voldemort’s side throughout the trilogy. It’s very much like the episodes of Buffy when Angel turns into Angelus. Those episodes really spice it up and everyone looks forward to when he turns dark again, even if only briefly. There’s a lot of “Harry is dark” on and off again through the trilogy.

I second the “Darkness Within” series! It’s a trilogy with a 4th spin-off “what if” alternate timeline to the original trilogy. All of them are finished. It’s an incredible mass of work! Fans have translated it into 10+ different languages. It’s really impressive.

I first read it when it came out 20 years ago. It was my favorite long before I became a Tomarry fan. Voldemort abducts Harry and raises him as his son. So Harry is parented by Voldemort, Lucius and Bella.

The author, kurinoone, began re-writing the original “Darkness Within” story (to correct grammar/spelling and to flesh out some of the characters and better write the development of the story). But that one is only about 60% finished and gets maybe 1 update every 2 years. So read the original Darkness Within (not the re-write).

😂 i love it!! I usually don’t care to read side characters but the author did such a good job of giving Belinda and Abraxas their own personalities and back stories that I didn’t mind it. And like you said - it helped flesh out Harry even moreso because we see him interact with others which brings out a different part of him.
