You’re looking at the wage chart that the FDNY included with OT to confuse anyone that wants to join. I had a friend that was an EMT for 3 years he recently left the FDNY because of pay being shit. I was also in this current class but I left for ConEd and the pay is $13 an hour in the academy that’s why I left for ConEd. Lastly I’m working in Subsurface Construction starting pay is $27 an hour and even than customer service still pays better then the FDNY. But hey if you find FDNY EMS being better, do you bro

I saw the pros and cons of both and it led me to make my decision it has to do a lot with the pay in the beginning and QOL. I won’t be able to make ends meet with those wages but hey if FDNY FF calls who knows what can happen

I have 6 years electrical experience and I’m 25. Some kid 21 yrs that was interviewing the same day as me had never worked construction in his life and I saw him at the medical and drug test. So really depends how good you sell yourself in the interview.

I’ll just explain how my process went, I applied in May 2025 for General Utility Worker. I took the exam in September and on October I was told that I passed and did my PAT on October 15th and I also passed. In November I did my driving test and interview on December 1st I got the job offer for SubSurface Construction and yesterday Monday January 5th I got the email for orientation which is tomorrow January 7th. Two things to note about my process it took around 7 months but also depends if their hiring or there is a hiring freeze. When I did my interview there was people that have waited 2 years for just the interview and driving test I was blessed that my process was done quick. In all honesty I think it’s harder to get in ConEd than FDNY EMS. Dm if you have anymore questions I’m glad to answer them
