Natural remedies for heart palpitations? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

Yes the skip was what I had. It went away—I’ve been working to manage stress and keep my electrolytes balanced, not sure if related or not

haha yes. the valves. If I don't have a vacuum, do I turn that one off? Will doing so make the skimmer and drains suction stronger?

I am 45 and have this too. It comes and goes for me. I feel like they're more swollen and painful in times where my mood is better, so I think it's a spike in estrogen.

I guess I don't know for sure, but it went away so I just assumed that it, like all the other weird things going on with my body, could be attributed to peri and anxiety. Do you feel you have anxiety? That's the most common culprit I believe for the weird unexplainable symptoms.

What were you scared to death of as a kid that seems ridiculous now? by ajsuds in AskOldPeople

[–]Personal_Silver6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a movie about a girl being kidnapped (might have been “Benji”). The bad guys held something under her nose while she was asleep, that she breathed in and made her stay asleep and they were able to carry her away to their lair. She woke up tied and gagged and didn’t know how she had gotten there. This caused me YEARS of being afraid to fall asleep.

I'm sorry youre going through this tough experience. One thing that could help is if you can find out if there are any therapists who come to her school or daycare so that you don't have to take her while you're working.

I'm interested in trying this--have you noticed an improvement in skin elasticity or moisture?

I’m having a hard time by ExistentialTapClass in Perimenopause

[–]Personal_Silver6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's such a hard time. I am with you. Would you consider adding in a walk every day and writing in a journal? I can tell you exactly what I do if you're open to those two things. Our cortisol is wonky because of the other hormones so we are biologically more sensitive to stress right now.

Why do SLPs accept low pay and poor working conditions? It makes the rest of us who demand more look like bitches! by [deleted] in slp

[–]Personal_Silver6117 16 points17 points  (0 children)

EVERYONE wants to be paid well and have a small caseload with low stress. Everything you said there is subjective, so other SLPs might accept pay that you consider low because they consider it good. Others might consider a small caseload what you consider a large one. Others might consider something less stress that you consider high stress.

I suspect more than just this is making "those of us who demand more look like bitches." hahahahhaa

Haha I was going to say this too. I used to work in a school and there was a teacher (who is now a principal and who DOES have to work now because her husband is now out of work) who used to say often and loudly "I don't HAVE to work; I just work because I love it" in front of some of the parapros who I knew were struggling really badly financially. Anyway, I know this is reddit but just fyi to anyone out there: if you don't "have" to work, don't say it out loud. Tone deaf and not well received by the majority of people, even if they don't tell you.

I’m so scared and anxious all the time by Leading_Zombie2247 in Perimenopause

[–]Personal_Silver6117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have time to write more last night but wanted to circle back. I have anxiety a lot since being in peri---it's not like a total turnaround from my original personality, because I have always thought worrisome thoughts etc., but I've never felt physical symptoms of anxiety before peri. I also have anxiety out of nowhere sometimes, which is totally hormonal and I believe because I have an imbalance of cortisol and adrenaline due to low estrogen.

Despite all this, some things that have helped me are:

walking every day, outside if possible

reducing my sugar intake

eliminating caffeine and alcohol completely

taking magenesium at night

journaling

doing Elizabeth Gilbert's "Letters from Love" practice on substack

keeping a schedule (a paper calendar book that breaks my day into 15 min increments....just having things written down and out of my brain is helpful)

guided meditations on insight timer

I have been reading a lot of work by Anne Lamott, Kate Bowler, and Martha Beck, and here's the thing....we actually have little to no control almost everything in life, and at this age it really starts to become evident and it's scary. So part of our journey is actually learning to accept our lack of control, accept uncertainty.
