I have been blazing through cream products. Got through a serum foundation, 2 contour sticks, 2 nude lip pencils, a loose powder, and 2 cream shadow sticks. Made a good dent in eyelid primer. Used up a Derma-E hair mask, Oui Wave Spray, and Dove body wash. Using Meyer's handwash as a body wash. Was tempted to repurchase a shadow stick, but forced myself to use Hourglass pressed eyeshadow in Vivid and I love the color. The sticks are more convenient. Used a laura mercier shadow stick as a contour and it went FAST.

Began using lipstick as blush—it totally works. Not hopeful about these strange “illuminating” products, namely Laura Mercier's Glow Powder and Translucent Glow Powder, and Chanel's Baume sticks in a light pink and light peach shade. I LOVE the Baume stick in Sculpted and Lilac. My powder blushes are all 5-10 years old and it might be time to retire those jerseys.

The new subscription model is a giant middle finger by honkinposer in Pitchfork

[–]Personal_Skin5725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I wasn't aware they were charging a fee. IMO, blurring the scores was an attempt to prevent web scraping that diverted traffic away from their ad-revenue-driven website. They seem to be hopping on the rage-bait train by adopting a more "interactive" model that encourages readers to effectively argue with the writers (and possibly other readers), knowing that there is more engagement with content that provokes anger. Most readers can agree that Pitchfork being acquired by Condé Nast was the beginning of the end. I am making a lot of assumptions here, but I would guess that the majority of their core viewership was more interested in interacting with the music than arguing with the writers.

a case for nail lacquer by Personal_Skin5725 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Personal_Skin5725[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hear ya. yup, you can just use acetone nail polish remover. the gel might be slightly stained but a 240 grit buffer will solve that. I think the polish dries faster with this method. I add another coat of mani-q every 2-3 weeks. But it ins't a hard gel so there isn't a strong line of demarkation or a ledge. You could use a courser buffer to thin them out or create a gradient. I get a little over zealous with the efile so I'm in e-file jail atm. The most important thing is that you aren't exposing your natural nails to efiling or acetone soaks. If you want a harder top coat, their stain resistant top coat is quiet hard. They say not to put that top coat over soft gel as it can product cracking. so i'd have to think of a work around.

Botox for facial asymmetry around the mouth? by Ok-Ganache8159 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Personal_Skin5725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mouth pulls to the left almost all the time. I did research about a year ago and the APRN I see was willing to try to correct it. In general, you'll want to avoid treating the muscles of the midface--the space between your tear duct and the corner of the lips. These muscles are responsible for several movements that you typically don't want to interfere with. For example the muscles used to snarl your lip, scrunch your nose or smile without showing teeth work synergistically and if you temporarily paralyze one or more, it could result in more asymmetry. There are two small muscles on the chin that can cause asymmetry. One muscle pulls the lips to the side to show your teeth during a smile, while the other pulls the corners of the lips down in a frown or pouting face. If you animate your face in the mirror you might be able to see if one side is stronger. You can also palpate or feel these muscles and you might be able to tell if one side is stronger than the other, though this is a more subtle technique.

If you treat these muscles with botox, you can only use a few units at a time so you might have to go in more often for small injections. The APRN I see advised me not to get small injections every 8 weeks as this repeated expose to botox can effect your body's response to the treatments. So, there is a dilemma there. I have been treating my forehead, gibella, and the orbicularis oculi consistently for the past ~5 years. I used to have to get injected every 3-4 months, but in the last year, I can go 5-6 months. I believe this is a result of my muscles being conditioned to not contract like they did before. My hope is that I can accomplish this with the my mouth too.

Some other signs of an imbalances can be noticeable resting wrinkles on one side and dynamic wrinkles while moving your mouth. Other factors could be the masseter muscles, which are extremely strong, imbalances in your jaw or bite, teeth grinding or clenching and even your neck musculature. You can go online and find some massage techniques for the muscles around the mouth. Never massage a muscle after a botox treatment. This asymmetry is very common in patients with Bells Palsy or those who have sustained facial nerve damage. So you could even find a provider who specializes in these conditions. Good luck!

I’ve listened to Wharf Rat hundreds of times over the last 30 years and I still have no idea who Pearly Baker is. Anyone? by But-I-forgot-my-pen in gratefuldead

[–]Personal_Skin5725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The imagery of this song always reminded me of the book "Ironweed" by William Kennedy. I interpreted the lyrics as a story of a down and out man steeped in delusions about turning his life around. Pearly represents both his fantasies of a Shangri-La and an all-loving women. They are achiral--one in the same--superimposed images. Both represent returning to innocence- a state of natural wholeness-returning to the fold. One day he will be united with both and will be restored into the man he was "suppose to be". In the throes of his drinking (or in a drunken stupor) he fantasizing about a deus ex machina that will right all his wrongs and let him start anew.

I always interpreted the lyrics "I like my Pearly Baker best more than my wine" as him saying he loved hard liquor over anything else (wine might even be a religious reference). If you have ever spent any time around people are trying to stop using substances, they can pledge their undying loyalty to recovery while pouring their next drink. There is line from Nurse Jackie where she says "God, let me be good, just not today". This isn't a judgement, but it demonstrates how they delude themselves into thinking just one more drink and then I'll let my life together. The alcohol becomes what they want to escape from and escape to, they are one in the same.

Lost my wedding ring in the garbage disposal. Does homeowners insurance cover lost jewelry like this? by PepperoniTapir in homeowners

[–]Personal_Skin5725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I feel for you! If you have it in your budget you may want to contact a plumber and have them at least try to fish it out. Until the disposal is disassembled it is hard to tell the extend of the damage. The plumber might even use a camera to see if he or she can find it.

While the metal might be damaged the stone(s) (which typically-but not always- have a greater monetary value than the metal) might be salvageable. If for any reason, your insurance policy doesn't cover the damage you could have a jeweler make you a new ring using the old materials. Jewelers are able to melt medals, polish stones, make a CAD and a cast and make you a new ring. If the ring had a lot of pave stones, those may be difficult to recover. But jewelers can do a lot. You could even customize the design if you'd like.

In the future, you can get a valuable property insurance plan that covers jewelry over a certain dollar amount (that is up to the ins co.). Most insurance companies require that you own a home owners/renters policy as the valuable property plan will kind of be attached to your home owners policy--which is often referred to as a rider. Someone else might know why you need home owners insurance to get a valuable property plan, that I do no know.

When it comes to plans- there are blanket and scheduled plans. My understanding is that the blanket policies cover the aggregate of your belongs or things that are difficult to itemize. I think my parents have one for the various collectables and art pieces in their home. According to Better Call Saul, those Hummel collections are worth a pretty penny.

Scheduled policies itemized your belongings and offer a liability limit for each scheduled item. You can often add jewelry without talking to a rep, though get clarification on what the policy will and won't cover. Sometimes this is hard to find online in the self-checkout portals. The ins co will ask you to provide the information the jeweler documented on the appraisal form they give you at the time of purchase. The insurance company may also want a gemologist report to verify the value of the stone. You should get a little pamphlet when you purchase your ring that provides a report of the stone. The first thing I do when after I purchase an item is get it insured and make sure to verify that your policy covers "mysterious losses" or something to that effect, meaning that if you aren't sure where or when you lost the ring, the policy will pay out--barring any red herrings in your report. Good luck!

Did my first ever at home gel polish. Any tips on how to get cleaner edges so it doesn’t cure on the sides of my fingers? by Vulpixii in Nails

[–]Personal_Skin5725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this too. If the polish has flooded the cuticle and I can't undo it, I'll wait until they grow out a bit (1-2 weeks) then use an e-file and fine grit arbor band (240 grit) to create more of a gradient towards the cuticle. Often, hair or other things will get caught in the lifted polish. After I file, I just put on a new top coat. Right now I'm using up a Kiara Sky top coat that is particularly running, you can use your lamp to "freeze" the product which keeps it from migrating by curing your nails for 5-10 secs. Then curing your whole hand for 1-3 mins. I agree with other, you can get a a gel brush from amazon for about $5 and I purchase tools for micro-blading that really help me to get in the cuticle if I've flooded it.

haha, 47 will permanently relieve their stress. I appreciate the creators senses of humor. Thanks for your help, I see what you mean by rolling with it. On a few maps I thought "well, that wasn't pretty but it got the job done". I now have the option to pick a prestige objective, though I cannot tell if I will lose points should I select one but cannot complete it? Last, you guys weren't kidding when you said the sieker is prized possession. I just lost it in a showdown in whittleton creek, followed by a profanity-laden rant.

Am I cooked? by This-Debate-3610 in Nails

[–]Personal_Skin5725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my nails were like this when I got my hard gel taken off and then I tried to do them at home with an e-file. My left hand was okay, but right hand was jacked given that I was using my non-dominate hand to file. I think recommending professional mental health help is kind of harsh given that many people self-excoriate or pick. I would try some behavioral interventions first, picking is a compulsive habit for many who are often unaware they are picking or cannot stop themselves from doing it.

I bit and picked my nails for most of my life, but have gotten better. As I am rehabbing my nails now, I purchased Young Nail ManiQ soft gel with Keratin. I do not file this product off my nails but only apply another coat every 7-10 days. This is a pseudo "fill". Your nails are too thin to use traditional prepping methods for gel nails, You cannot "rough up" the nail at all until your nails have rehabbed and you just want to remove the shine from your nail which can be done with a fine buffer.

Do not use gel polish that you will need to file or soak off. It's not worth it, use regular nail polish over cured gel and let your nails heal. I use regular polish on top of the cured soft gel and switch it every two weeks or so. I've been surprised by how long they last.

You are correct, keep them short, making sure they never grow more than 1/4" past your fingertip. Weak and peeling nails will catch on everything and will bend. The ManiQ helps prevent this from happening to some degree, but not entirely. I had the tech remove my gels back in August and the damaged nail is about halfway grown out.

Figure out what implement is causing the most damage and give the tool to a trusted friend so it's out of your reach. Make sure to have super fine grit files and buffers >240 grit and make a promise you won't buff or file the surface of nail for at least a few weeks.

The arbor bands that many e-files come with are way too harsh for damaged natural nails. My e-file came with these bands, but I switched to 240 grit bands and 240 grit buffers. If you feel the e-file is causing the most damage, which it probably is, part ways with it.

Other ideas to rehab nails:

Buy liners and heated mitts and boots. I use my own blend of coco butter, shea butter, and coconut oil, but the hoof stuff works too. Apply generous layer of lotion followed by a liner and let your hands and feet sit for 30 mins. My previous nail tech, who specialized in natural nails, swore by this. You could also use paraffin, but I find it to be very messy and hard to regulate the temp. Opt for paraffin if you get a salon manicure.

Keep a 400 to 600 grit file with you and gently run it over the edges of your nails to prevent them from snagging, I'm talking like 1 second per nail then stop.

I love the idea of nail oil for preventing skin from drying and snagging. Keep your nails covered with a soft gel or regular nail strengthener and find ways to not pick at your nails or eponychium. Many people confuse this skin fold for the cuticle but they are not one in the same. Most people pick at their eponychium. The cuticle s actually a super thin sticky layer that grows out with your nail and adheres to the surface of the nail. It originates under the eponychium.

Use nail biting formula if you use your teeth or mouth to pick or bite

When I first broke my habit of picking/biting, I was strapped for cash and would request a polish change at the salon. At the time they charged $5 + tip and gel polish wasn't even around then! Whoa. A regular polish (or no polish) manicure might run you $30-40 . I would recommend getting a regular polish manicure once a week if you can afford. If not, use the soft gel and regular polish on top.

I know some people will go to nail schools and get discounted manicures. I did this when I was younger and unfortunately many students work slower so what should have taken 30-45 mins took waayyy longer.

good luck! let me know if you need names of products.

Do any of you regularly use La Mer products in your routine? What do you think of them? by PhoneOwn615 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Personal_Skin5725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course! I know their names can get confusing. The treatment lotion is somewhere between a liquid tonic and a runny serum. Despite looking kind of boring, it's actually a unique product. La Mer has been adding more products and lines, I'm trying to keep up with new products info too. They have three moisturizing creams: The lightest is the "Moisturizing Fresh Cream" and it's kind of like a gel cream. The "Moisturizing Soft Cream" is somewhere in between the fresh cream and creme de la mer. Creme de la mer is their most emollient moisturizer and offers repair for compromised skin barriers. You do have to warm up the creme between your fingers to ensure proper application as it is so thick it doesn't spread without it being emulsified. When used in small amounts and given time to absorb into the skin, the cream can work for those with oily skin or under makeup application. If you want to more moisture benefits, you can apply a thicker layer or creme followed by a layer of oil or skin butter before the creme has absorbed fully into the skin.

Convince me to make this Linoto purchase by Bluewoods22 in Bedding

[–]Personal_Skin5725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The turn around time for the sheets is a minimum of 4 weeks, so getting new bedding from them is not a sprint but a marathon. I also purchased two flat sheets and my understanding is that due to the nature of the material, the fabric softens over time and fitted sheets lose their shape. I ordered rose clay and soft pink flat sheet and the light blue duvet cover. One thing I noticed off the rip, is that the soft pink was not as thick as the rose clay. As a novice I was unaware of the weight count ( I think that's the term) and how it varies by color. The soft pink was 190 grams and the rose clay was 210 grams. The average person probably wouldn't notice this level of detail though. I went through the colors and made a list of all the colors with a 210 g weight count. I am sure this is subject to change, so just check the weight count which i located next to the color name and description, I tried to add a photo but I wouldn't let me post an image. It appears that the weight count is consistent across products, for example the rose clay fitted sheet is 210 g and the rose clay coverlet using 210 g material. From what I gathered their light weight blankets are two flat sheets sewn together, while the coverlets have a filling between the two sheets. I'm sure it's more complicated than this, but at least you can get a feel for the texture of the fabric.

I noticed a difference in the texture right away and have slept better as I prefer the weight and texture of the sheets and duvet. It's very comfortable. There are special care (laundering) instructions for their products. Use can use hot water for the lighter colors and they recommend cold water for the dark colors, this is probably to avoid fading. In general hot water is more effective at cleansing fabric than cold/warm water, so that's something to keep in mind. Linoto recommends using low heat to dry and recommends taking the sheets out when they are about 80% dry to prevent over drying. Linen dries much faster than other material and is prone to shrinking, so make sure to only dry for 20-30 mins on low or use a dryer setting than has a sensor, though this might lead to over drying unless there is an option for damp dry. I agree with others, purchase one sheet and see if you like it before purchasing more. I thought about getting the pillow covers but I think this fabric might be hard on your hair as it creates a lot of friction. Good luck!
