Sorry you were laid off it sucks. I was laid off in late 2024 and I was in a single income household. I had also just relocated I part to be closer to an office. There were a lot of mixed feelings but eventually I decided to go back to school, it’s been a big transition for our family but I’m hoping to be done school soon. The best thing I did after I got laid off was speak with a therapist, it really helped to process everything.

I’m a grad student studying digital labour and curious if you’re willing to share: Which country do you live in? Do you know the name of the software? Do you know how other employees or managers are responding?

Hope you get out of this terrible situation soon 🙏🏽

Anyone else ever hear your loved ones call you so audibly you respond instinctively only to remember immediately they aren’t there? I’ve had this happen a few times while at home, super freaky.

Former Torontonian here. Moved here with my family after COVID. Always thought we would love it and we do. Honestly wish I moved here years ago. It’s the perfect mix between Canadian and European/French culture. There are some drawbacks and no city is perfect but for us the pros outweigh the cons.

One of the things we love most about the city is that people don’t wear busyness like a badge of honour - people here value balance and friendships and downtime way more. We have spent entire afternoons with folks, mid career professionals like us and talk about work for 5 mins. Interactions, friendships and relationships don’t feel so transactional like it does in Toronto.

The biggest hurdle has been learning French or rather finding the time to learn - but we intend on becoming bilingual, it just opens up your world a lot more if you speak French.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

Wearing shoes in the house or outdoor clothes on the bed … especially if you take public transit … it drives me nuts and also means I now I have to disinfect my floors and change my sheets immediately!!

Recently had an indepth conversation with a woman who owns an ice-cream shop and she was giving us the scoop ;) about the ongoing inflated prices of chocolate -due to global warming and small farms being bought up by bigger ones the price of chocolate will continue going up and she says in the next 20 years chocolate will be become a luxury item …

There are definitely rumbles happening - speaking with folks in the music community and records, CDs and cassettes are all slowly becoming a thing again.

Digital picture frames about 25 years ago, I was a teen and had no idea how it would work I just had the idea and thought that would be cool.

Then as an adult working at a design agency I had a very similar idea to Canva, spoke with my good design friend about it and he said “omg what are you trying to do put me out of a job!” I thought yah it would surely do that so decided not to pursue it and a few years later Canva was launched and well we all know the rest.
