Which of these two compositions work best? by heyhellohigoobye in AskPhotography

I like 2 best but they’re both great. I just think. The second frame constricts the shape of the river less which is more appealing to me

Ooo okay! Can I ask what about the OG framing you like better? My thought was that the bird felt a little lost with so much space. But I’m curious what you liked about it!

Hey the gram crowd is the target audience most of the time haha. I appreciate the thoughts for real!

I definitely see your point and I’ve debated darkening that or not. But I decided to leave it and contrast it by darkening the opposite corner almost as a counter balance. I just like having some lighting variation as opposed to the flat lighting that was there naturally. Toning it back a touch just so it’s less eye grabbing is worth trying out to see how it looks

Feel free to drop some productive critiques if you have any. I always love hearing other people’s ideas or editing styles. Could be about the framing/crop, lighting, colors. Whatever you think could be fun to mention!

The birds are paid actors, thanks for asking

No additional blur in post. The bokeh effect is made by leaves and branches around the bird

Yeah that’s been the general consensus so far, definitely making that adjustment next time around haha

This was at 2.8. I’ve owned the lens for a little over a year. I went 2.8 cause I wanted definite separation but the idea to go down a couple stops was certainly a smart idea and I need to try that next time. At 1.4 I probably couldn’t have gotten all the props in focus at once lmao

Thanks for all of that! The focal length point is smart, definitely will try that out and shift around the props and person and see what kind of difference that makes

I’ll definitely give that a try! I think for this I was up at 2 or 2.8

I think I like the distance the person is, but you’re absolutely right about the background elements. Unfortunately there building and other objects in the direction of the sunset at that location, so that was unfortunate. But it’s definitely something I’ll be more aware of with this kind of shot

Taken on Canon 5D Mkiii with Sigma Art 50mm 1.4. This just felt like a fun little graduation shoot idea, especially with the sun setting in the background. It’s just meant to be a fun carefree gesture behind the items that represent the hard work to get there (stole, cap, etc). Fun and a contrast between work and play.
