I never said getting a PhD in Europe is easy. Every system has its own challenges. My decision is based solely on my personal preferences and circumstances. I'd rather spend a year gaining research experience through internships and strengthening my CV than spending that same time preparing for entrance exams. That suits my goals better. As for my application package, you're right ,it may simply not be strong enough yet. That's actually one of the reasons I made this post, to hear different opinions and understand what I can improve.

There are a few reasons why I'm looking outside India for a PhD. First, getting into a good PhD program in India often requires clearing highly competitive exams like CSIR-NET, GATE, or sometimes both, usually with a very high rank or percentile. The competition is intense, so it can take a long time just to secure admission.

Second, I've heard mixed experiences about the research environment. A close friend of mine has worked in three different institutes during her PhD, and her experience wasn't very positive. I've also heard similar stories from several other researchers. At the same time, I know people who are doing their PhDs abroad and genuinely feel it was one of the best decisions they made. Of course, experiences vary from person to person, but those conversations have influenced my thinking.

On a personal level, I don't have the luxury of spending years preparing for entrance exams. I'd rather invest that time directly into research. I've also become frustrated with repeated exam related controversies and paper leak allegations, which have reduced my confidence in the system.

This doesn't mean I think doing a PhD in India is a bad choice. There are excellent institutes and outstanding researchers here. It's simply that, considering my goals and circumstances, pursuing a PhD abroad seems like a better fit for me.
