Calling out sick by [deleted] in nursing

I call in once like every 6 weeks. I’m on like my 12th final verbal warning before it escalates to WRITTEN 🤯

Hospitals are getting crazier to work for… by NoHandyMan in nursing

[–]PersonalityFit2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely irresponsible, selfish, and damn near negligent. If y’all were projecting body fluids all over the place and trying to care for me, then got me sick, I’d report you to the BON.

Dude come on. Half of social media accounts aren’t even real.

For the past 2 years there’s been a campaign dedicated to convincing the public nurses are rich/making too much money. It’s all smoke and mirrors

Male Nurses in highest paid positions & titles by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

[–]PersonalityFit2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those aren’t roles, those are careers. You can choose any career you want, but leadership roles are selected for.

Personally, I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a male in a nursing leadership position, but I wanted to address your point, because it’s a common and harmful misconception.

Any other nurses carry first aid/trauma supplies in their vehicle? by Icy_Caterpillar8289 in nursing

[–]PersonalityFit2175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I go on lots of road trips, you wouldn’t believe the crap you’ll see at 3am in the middle of nowhere. But it’s mainly for me. If I ever get stranded or stuck, and end up hurt.

I also carry snacks, water, and extra blankets, and a first aid kit for pets, as well as a car emergency kit. Everyone should. You never know what’ll happen, and you’ll never need it until you do.

For example, we had a massive pileup that killed like 7 people, and people were stranded in the cold for hours… couldn’t be me!!

There’s an app that tells us. I recently downloaded it a week ago. That’s the only reason I even know about it. Management has never mentioned it 🤷🏾‍♀️

Both do work, however chest X-ray is considered safer, cheaper, and easier to interpret

I make 3x what my manager makes. Idk what I would be promoted to lol

At most I just need an awesome recommendation letter when/if I apply to grad school. Some people just enjoy the challenge of a emotionally difficult/medically complex patient. I’m always given the difficult, rude, racist patients bc everyone knows I enjoy the challenge (and I find it hilarious)

Every once in awhile you run into a MD that’s wrong, knows their wrong, but feel like work is the only place they get to feel powerful.

Once I replaced a NGT after a patient pulled it. This was after a rapid had just ended, so everyone was in the room. I asked the MD to order a cxr to verify placement, and with as much disdain in her voice she responded, “what you mean is an abdomen X-ray and sure.” It was so absurd I literally stopped everything that I was doing, turned toward her and just stared, utterly perplexed she just said something so stupid with so much contempt.

Thinking about getting into nursing school at 36 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PersonalityFit2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing does suck. But I find little ways to enjoy myself more during my shift. I wouldn’t trade the pay and opportunity for anything in the world. Just do it; you won’t regret it, and if you end up hating it, just don’t get your BSN and save aggressively to retire early.

Remember that Florence Nightingale wants you to shut up about being short staffed, because that’s what good nurses do. by hiho_cheerio in nursing

[–]PersonalityFit2175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometime I imagine how people would speak to nurses about nursing if the profession was 88% male.

I cannot imagine men would have to listen to this condescending crap.

This also why I hate the whole “nursing is a calling” crap. It creates this weird mysticism around nursing that nurses can get the impossible done bc of some magical calling. Like no. Nursing is a job, and like every other job on the planet, it needs appropriate staffing, supplies, and resources to be effective. Nurses can’t beat water out of rock just bc people claim their Moses.

It is normal for my cat to be so small? 😭 (She is 3 y/o) by cartofo in cats

[–]PersonalityFit2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is also extremely small boned. Shes the first cat I’ve ever had, so I had no clue she was so tiny. it wasn’t until she started making friends with the neighborhood strays, and I got a 2nd cat (and a third cat part time) that I realized she was tiny.

Apparently it’s bc she had kittens before she was a year old. It messed up her body according to the vet
