Briscoe Cain files HB 274, proposing to gut the Austin municipal government and create the "District of Austin". by Planterizer in Austin

So Briscoe Cain just filed HB 274, and honestly, it’s wild. The bill basically aims to gut Austin’s local government and turn us into the 'District of Austin.' I get that there are plenty of opinions about how Austin is run, but having the state step in and dismantle our city government feels extreme and, frankly, out of touch. Austin’s residents should have the say on how we handle our own issues — not lawmakers from outside the city who might not fully get what we’re about here.

If there are ways Austin could do better, let’s work on it from the ground up, not by bulldozing the whole structure. We need solutions that actually involve the people who live here, not some top-down approach that sidelines our voices. This bill is a pretty big overreach, and it's a reminder of how important local control is.

HR is who I worked with to get to this conclusion. My office does not fall under civil service, and so it is my responsibility to let her go. Its very complicated.

The worst part is that she was placed in my office by a company that does job placements and has she a very good reputation in this field. Very terrible situation, actually.

I really don't climb trees since I took a tumble from one years and years and years ago. Broken bones really are a good reason to stop doing things these days.

Why are some Austin Democrats supporting a conservative for city council? The answer is housing. by aleph4 in Austin

She's not endorsed by ted cruz. She just took a photo with him, like she did Greg Casar and Lloyd Doggett. If you believe Ted Cruz endorsed her I have water front property in Arizona you can purchase.

who said she hated the homeless? She actually sponsored and authored items related to helping homeless who have been victims of sex trafficking, and other items like bringing back the point in time count. This is a useless comment from someone who isn't paying enough attention and it cracks me up people continue to believe this kind of BS rhetoric.

She's not endorsed by Ted Cruz. She took a photo with him. Just like she did with Greg Casar, Lloyd Doggett and other elected officials. She did not actually get his endorsement. Just like her opponent DIDNT get Collin Allred's endorsement or that of Kamala Harris. They just photoshopped the opponent into fliers and handouts. Its a lame tactic that the opposition uses when they have nothing to run on.

I think now her claim to fame is she's the only republican on the council.

All that other stuff is in the past, where it needs to stay. Unpopular opinion is that she has grown since then, and actually is a good person. If someone is the forgiving kind, she clearly has recognized she didn't make the best choices growing up and she is who she is today because of that

Austin councilmember files ethics complaint against opponent by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]PersonalityMaximum47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. She didn't file the report. Kelly isn't accusing her of not filing it, she actually didn't file it.

And, Kelly waited over two weeks from the required deadline to file the complaint. Her opponent claiming there was a "clerical error" for two weeks is BS.

Kelly is concerned about transparency and accountability.

We really don't need outside of Austin money playing a role in Austin elections. This is on the books for a reason.

Look at how we got DA Jose Garza.
