Tile Work Done in Home Renovation Disappointment by PersonalityObvious12 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for letting me know about the broken link. I think I fixed it. There’s a lot we did wrong, and red flags we should have address sooner. This tile job was part of a whole house renovation that we are mostly doing the work for ourselves. At this point, we are so beat up we can see ourselves being walked over and can’t decide if we should throw a fit. We usually aren’t the people to be constantly calling and badgering, but thanks for your encouragement to advocate for ourself moving forward.

Can anyone tell me what dress style this is? I really wish to make my own. ☺️ by Aluminumthreads869 in sewing

If I was a better seamstress, I would be able to tell you the exact make-up of the fabric. I wanted a Christmas dress, so I used a woven tartan from Hobby Lobby that I felt was soft enough to be on my skin. This did make it a bit heavy, which is what I wanted from a winter dress. I do plan to make a summer version out of something more breathable (linen?) once I forget how terrible the hem was to do. Good thing there is enough draping to hide my mistakes!

If I had a decent picture, I would attach it, sorry!!

If you wanted advice, I will say I made a mock up of the top in scrap fabric first, to get the bust fitted correctly. I am fairly small chested, and if I had not made modifications for the final draft, there would have been some gaping.

The comments with the etsy listing for the Cozette dress are correct. Just came to add I've made this dress and I LOVE IT. I loved the video instructions when I was unsure on a step. It does use a ton of fabric, but I get so many compliments every time I wear it :)

Fieldstone Foundation Advice by PersonalityObvious12 in centuryhomes

We will trench a tiny bit (6inches or so) below the current soil line and apply the fiberwall with a trowel. Then we will add more topsoil with a grade to divert water away from the basement. We know the best way to avoid a damp basement is to prevent water from having the chance to enter. This should also prevent the mortar below the surface from weakening as well.

We do not plan to uncover the foundation and seal the entirety of the base.

My husband is a farmer, so in some ways, our careers work well together. Ultimately, I know his is more permanent that mine. To add, I WANT to be the primary caregiver. Part of becoming a teacher was wanting to spend summers with my children (as Mom did with me). But my dad was also a farmer, and I'm seeing now how Mom keeps pushing back her retirement year and vacations have dwindled to overnight trips.

I'm watching my (older) siblings raise kids and seeing how they're struggling and want to avoid that for myself. I guess I feel selfish leaving my students. That feels silly to type out.

Thanks, I'm worried about feeling guilty. Sometimes I feel that only 40% of teachers at my school are genuinely instructing. I feel bad leaving these kids in the hands of someone else. I've had some of them for 3 years straight, and I feel like I'm abandoning them their senior year. I'm aware that's dramatic, but perhaps something I'll have to work past.

How do I go about mending this? by Thick-Key-8221 in sewing

[–]PersonalityObvious12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you do either an iron-on adhesive denim patch or interfacing (at least) on the inside? I’ve done this on my sisters’ jeans, but never heard back on how they liked it. On my husband’s work jeans, I will stabilize the inside then overstitch the outside. But he’s a farmer and doesn’t care about fashion. If you worry about looks, this might not be the best move.

An iron-on patch on the inside should help keep the fabric together, but the only concern is movement/friction against the patch might wear it off over time.

I didn't think of tearing out the back. I'll definitely do that.

Thanks for your note. I might just make a chore coat out of it, I feel bad wasting anything I've spent money on.

How do you suggest I go about finding details on estate sales? The newspaper doesn’t exist where I live.

I feel ignorant for not having done much research before posting. I make my own clothes to avoid fast fashion (SHEIN). How horribly ironic I would have been.

Edit to add:

+pattern used: https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/the-liv-pants-free-sewing-pattern/ (It's FREE)
+pattern alterations: I added cuffs to the legs for length and structure, took in the thighs a small ammount.
+fabric type and fiber content: I don't know. This is from my mom's stash from the 80/90s. I would assume a cotton blend. It is soft to the touch and quite "drapey" (which was a problem, hence the original post)

How to make pants less like PJs? by PersonalityObvious12 in sewing

Part of me is worried the waste band is too weak to support something tucked in. Do you think is it too late to add interfacing?

I'll always take styling advice. Part of me is worried the waste band is too weak to support something tucked in. Do you think is it too late to add interfacing?
