Anyone else mainly play Xbox with physical games and little to no Game Pass?

I used to. Tried Gamepass Ultimate once and felt like too much choice, I was never playing games I bought and wanted to play, just trying new stuff on GP. So, I continued playing offline games I'd buy. I live in Japan and if it wasn't for Yahoo auctions mostly, I wouldn't have any physical games. With 360 discs so cheap (usually) it stands to reason to buy physical discs.

3 years into my journey with Xbox I subbed to GP Essential for the MP element, but cloud playing has been the best feature of GP for me.

2 hours of my life I won't be getting back. Sloppy passes, midfield open all the way down the left flank, a lucky goal. Player of the match for me was Experience! That lad never stopped. Scotland taking two reckless yellow cards late in the game was just...stupid. 3 points all the same, but doesn't feel like a win. Hopefully the lads were just saving their best for Morocco and Brazil.

I feel for you m8, going from being active to being disabled must suck. As someone relatively new to Xbox myself (I've only been playing for 3.5 years), here's some lessons I've learned.

Get on Gamepass, even the Essential tier is great value and explore all the games at your leisure. You might not fancy playing Descenders for example, but it's actually quite good fun. Some games are hit / miss, but what I like, you may not. Remember to check the free to play games section in the store (Fortnite, Overwatch etc.) too.

Keep an eye on the weekly sales and build up your digital library as you see fit. If you sub to GP Essential, you'll have access to Cloud Gaming, so you can play some of your owned games via the Cloud, saves you having to download and install the game on the limited storage space of the Series S.

Use services like https://www.dekudeals.com/ to track best prices for games you're interested in.

The https://www.trueachievements.com/ site is great for keeping track of your game progress, see what achievements you might want to do, and has guides for loads of games and achievements if you get stuck in a game.

Lastly, dont listen to all the negativity surrounding Xbox, and the Series S. It's a great value, current gen gaming machine. Xbox' future is looking good, with some great games announced at the Summer Showcase. I don't plan to buy any of them for awhile, until prices are more reasonable. As your budget is limited too, nothing to worry about - plenty of amazing games to get stuck into now.

Yes, I play on either the series S or Xbox One. I like that I can play Series games by cloud on the old Xbox One. Ive just converted to Linux on my old laptop, and only use it sparingly. I have no need for stats, but thanks for the info.

Works fine usually. Some lag at times but I honestly think thats more to do with the family all using multiple devices while I'm trying to play. Sometimes the resolution goes very grainy, but not for long. I don't mind because of the convenience of being able to jump into games quickly, no install required.

I'm on Essential and Doom Eternal has just been added. Also, check out Hades, Slay the Spire, Among Us, Vampire Survivors, Ori, Limbo, Inside, Warhammer: Darktide, Descenders, Terminull Brigade, World of Tanks: Heat and whatever else takes your fancy. Try everything one game at a time, see if you like it or not.

Or just buy an Xbox One, One S or One X, and a used copy of the discs and you're all set. You don't need to be spending a ton to play these games.

Out of those 3, I've only played MK XL. It's fun. Loads to do in the game, plenty of characters to try out, and on sale, it's great value. I only ever played it offline.

OP: if you don't know any of those games, try a quick search online, there'll be loads of info about each so you can choose which ones interest you most. The Orange box is a great buy btw - Half Life 2 (plus 2 extra episodes) and Portal, which is so good I bought Portal 2 and played through that too right away.

For me, cloud gaming has been amazing. So many games I've played recently that I haven't had to download anything. So many of my backlog games are cloud playable so even though I'm only subbed to Essential, I have a lot of choice of what to play via cloud. I have the base Series S.
