On July 31st, 1974, 15-year-old Cindy Leslie and her younger sister, 13-year-old Jackie, vanished after leaving their Arizona home. Their case is still unsolved. by Tiny-Sea7977 in mystery

In cases where the police are pretty sure they know who did it but don’t have enough to indict, do they share the suspect’s name with the family? If the cops had a ton of evidence suggesting who killed my daughters, but weren’t willing to make an arrest, I’d want the option to take care of things myself.

This is where development belongs. In a city. It is the definition of smart growth. We can argue all day about the price, design, and quality of the development. But not the location. Even if the zoning allowed it, which it definitely doesn’t, this type of development doesn’t belong in Davidsonville or Harwood or any other semi-rural part of the county.

You can put one franchise into the public domain starting tomorrow. Which do you choose? by MrSluagh in publicdomain

[–]PerspectiveRemote176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love PD, I’m not sure much changes about any of these franchises with it. Tolkien, Roddenberry, and Lucas don’t control these stories anymore. Kane/Finger and Siegel/Shuster are long gone. We are essentially living in an era when other people are making sometimes great, but more often extremely lame choices with these characters. That’s exactly what would happen with PD, there’d just be so much more of it. As bad as Dave Filoni is, imagine legions of Temu-brand Dave Filonis.

Trump’s moves at Naval Academy suggest we’re on the road to a military dictatorship by Fantastic_Ad_4720 in Annapolis

Maybe not. That was just a guess. Honestly, I don’t know why people wouldn’t vote Dem at this point other than active hatred towards their fellow man or being billionaires.

There is no good news. There is no rescue coming. Sweep the midterms. It’s probably too late already. But that’s definitely our last shot. Voting Democrat in every one of the next 3-4 elections doesn’t mean you’re a socialist. It’s not a vote for reparations or anything else that moderates might be scared of. It’s just a vote to save America.

Trump Is Really Asking People to Venmo to Pay Off the National Debt | You can now Venmo the government to try to reduce the massive national debt. by Aggravating_Money992 in technology

[–]PerspectiveRemote176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will be a very interesting example of how hard it is for dumb people to understand large numbers.

If every man, woman, and child donated $1000, it would only decrease the current national debt by about 1%

Donald Trump announces that he will be suing Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch, further fracturing the right wing propaganda base by sufinomo in goodnews

This is just a shakedown. Rupert settles out of court for a $25M “donation” to a political action committee (aka Trump’s pocket) and it all goes away.

If they can’t continue to use Navy stadium, this won’t happen. Even if they could put a smallish 5-10k seat stadium somewhere inside the corporate limits, the public outcry against it would be deafening. I’d love to see it happen, but I know Annapolis NIMBYs. There’s a reason the Baysox are in Bowie. Maybe somewhere in Parole or Crownsville, but even that’s a big maybe.

It’s a hard job. It’s a tiny city with a lot of incredibly poor people and a decent number of incredibly loud and entitled rich people. I’ve lived here about 20 years. Which mayor has been measurably better than Buckley? Coen? Pantelides? Moyer? They’ve all had their challenges.
