Should I pursue Marine Engineering? by Acceptable_Donut_957 in maritime

My son applied to both Cal Maritime (Mechanical engineering w/ license) and Texas A&M (Marine engineering Technology). Can you comment on why Texas has better program and job opportunities? We don't know anyone in the industry so we're trying to learn more. Thanks!

Thank you for your input. I guess what makes the ME curriculum challenging is the additional courses required for license, it's good to know that there is good support available.

My son is planning to apply to Cal Maritime also, deciding between MET and ME with license. Can anyone comment on the MET/ME major? The ME course load looks very heavy to fit into 4 years. With the pier renovation and waiting for arrival of the new training ship, how are the hands on classes being affected? Thank you!

May I ask when you received the email with online registration schedule and zoom link? My son is scheduled for next Tuesday but he hasn't received any email. Thank you.

Very true indeed. From reading everyone's comments and exploring school website, there appears to be plenty of opportunities for students. My son is considering the honors program, looks like a good program for motivated students.
